G1 Climax 34 night 12 (August 7) Preview

Second of sold out double header
1*YlWlaARbqHz-O6zrk3X_uw.png

The second night of a sold out double header in Korakuen hall sees the seventh matches in B Block action. With the league approaching its culmination, who can shift themselves into a top three spot?
Watch live in English on NJPW World!

Main event: Hirooki Goto (3–3) vs David Finlay (4–2)

1*MSv0sSLpZcnxC-J4CP16EA.jpeg

The main event spot pits the 4–2 David Finlay in with a chance to stay in the lead of the block and greatly increase his chances of making the top three. That is, if he can get past a Hirooki Goto who is putting on a highly impressive run in this tournament. With one of the best bouts of the summer seeing him victorious over Konosuke Takeshita Sunday, he rides that momentum into a main event with the Global Champion.
History comes full circle several times in the career of a veteran like Goto. In 2016, his run to the G1 final ended at the hands of BULLETC LUB leader Kenny Omega. Five years ago the story of his G1 was around his match with the next leader of the Club in Switchblade Jay White, who along with Gedo had betrayed CHAOS mere months before. Now he faces the current BULLET CLUB pointman in Finlay. As the Rebel Savior has declared himself the factions greatest of all time, will Goto feel that superiority, or overthrow it?

7th Match: Yuya Uemura (3–3) vs Ren Narita (3–3)

Singles record: 12–0 Narita
1*6glM0zpX5X7GM2hhJOcE9w.jpeg

Narita’s junior in experience if not age in the Noge Dojo, Uemura never beat Narita as a Young Lion. When his excursion sent him to the LA Dojo, Uemura trained under Katsuyori Shibata alongside the future HOUSE OF TORTURE member, with Shibata and Hiroshi Tanahashi both likening their work ethics and contrasting ‘sun and moon’ personalities to the relationship between Tanahashi and Shinsuke Nakamura back in the day.
Toward the end of Narita’s stint in the US, he would defeat Uemura one more time at the night of Ric Flair’s last professional wrestling match, but the two have not tangled since, and even the dark hearted Narita seems emotionally conflicted about this match. In pre tournament interviews, Narita had plenty of bile for each of his fellow competitors, but was noticeably silent about Yuya, leading to a lot of intrigue behind this bout and what it may represent. Uemura started strong, but having lost his last three in a row, can he get back on track by beating Narita for the first time in his career?

6th Match: Yota Tsuji (3–3) vs HENARE (3–3)

Singles record: 4–0 HENARE
1*ohgoSmIPMjAyu7iWVLwNoQ.jpeg

After six matches in his campaign, HENARE has already had his career best G1, ascending to six points as he represents as NEVER Champion. Still, a loss to his United Empire teammate and World TV Champ Jeff Cobb has to be weighting on the mind of the Maori Warrior as he looks to finish strong and in the top three.
In four meetings for Tsuji with HENARE as a Young Lion, the Gene Blaster was unable to leave much of a mark. What happens this time at a critical G1 juncture for both?

5th Match: El Phantasmo (2–4) vs Konosuke Takeshita (3–3)

1*ivpStmEpF0g0fpcgMZz2VA.jpeg

Despite entering this year’s tournament in a mental fog of loneliness, ELP has held this match against Takeshita in Korakuen Hall as a beacon of light. A crack of light got wider in Aichi Sunday, as he managed to roll up Yuya Uemura to get his second win of the tournament, and with takeshita falling to Hirooki Goto Sunday, he’s now just one win off the top three pace. In his adopted home of Korakuen Hall, there’s no doubt ELP will be motivated to impress in his favourite wrestling environment, but will he be able to beat the Alpha?

4th Match: Boltin Oleg (2–4) vs Jeff Cobb (4–2)

1*uyBH76Ew1DcOLB5q8N58oQ.jpeg

Intrigue is high from the first bell in our block matches tonight as Boltin Oleg takes on Jeff Cobb. It’s the clash of a former Olympian wrestler against a man who up to recently was ranked top five in the world in the sport. Will the snow leopard Boltin have to take a tropical Tour of the Islands, or can he freeze out the Imperial Unit in a must win bout for the Big Man From Kazakhstan?

3rd match: Los Ingobernables De Japon (Tetsuya Naito & Shingo Takagi) vs HOUSE OF TORTURE (EVIL & Dick Togo)

1*Cya0suE6g8yod05zbpPi3A.jpeg

Shingo Takagi has been cursed with bad results in Yokohama at the hands of HOUSE OF TORTURE members ending his G1 campaigbns. In 2021, it was a double countout with Yujiro Takahashi, and last year an interference laden loss to EVIL that did him in. Shingo and EVIL meet again Thursday in Yokohama, and Takagi wants to dispel his curse; will that begin tonight?

2nd Match: Shota Umino & Tomoaki Honma vs BULLET CLUB War Dogs (Jake Lee & Gabe Kidd)

1*JQo0XIg8_cnLoT_vHjSn_g.jpeg

Ahead of Jake Lee’s Yokohama meeting with Shota Umino, he and Gabe Kidd team up once more in our second matchof the evening. Lee and Gabe have teamed very effectively on undercards; on enight after they faced off in block competition, will they be back on the same page?

1st Match: Just Five Guys (SANADA & TAKA Michinoku) vs United Empire (Great-O-Khan & Callum Newman)

1*hszwKWbI3ofLPSMHNWP5-A.jpeg

Ahead of Great-O-Khan’s clash with a familiar foe in SANADA Thursday, tag team action gets us started. Will this match set the scene for O-Khan’s first ever win against the former World Champion?

G1 Climax 34 night 13 (August 8) Preview

Tournament hits Yokohama

1*484SVFr_ZXzE3QP9guh7qQ.png

August 8 in Yokohama is a tradition dating back to 1988, where a legendary battle between Tatsumi Fujinami and Antonio Inoki ushered in a new era. 36 years since that fateful night, G1 Climax 34 sees A Block’s penultimate matchups. Who can set the pace going into the last night of block action, where the top three advancing to the playoffs will be locked in?

Watch live in English on NJPW World!

Main event: Shingo Takagi (3–4) vs EVIL (5–2)

Singles record: 3–2 Takagi

1*npTe4MS9V4zsMUXZtI7FTA.jpeg

Shingo Takagi has a lot of trauma associated with the Yokohama Budokan. In 2021 his spot in the final with a block that was going right down to the wire was ruined by Yujiro Takahashi, a double count out seeing to it that he didn’t advance out of the block stage. Then in 2023, a near riot erupted when a parade of HOUSE OF TORTURE interference saw to it that EVIL beat Shingo to advance to the quarter finals.

Now, Shingo is behind the eight ball and in bad need of a win to get to eight. EVIL&s unstoppable start though might finally have stalled, with two wins back to back heralding a mid capmpaign collapse. Still firmly in second place, the threat of EVIL in the playoffs is still present, and almost concrete if he beats Takagi tonight; Yokohama will as one be hoping that Shingo can show the King of Darkness the ceiling lights.

9th Match: Zack Sabre Jr. (5–2) vs Gabe Kidd (3–4)

Singles record: 3–1 Sabre

1*hMtsu8Gsnv_ZJtg0jG9ndQ.jpeg

With Sabre sitting at the top of the table in A Block, he’ll still be in playoff position tonight even in defeat. Kidd is fighting for survival and needs the win to stay in the hunt, but ZSJ will be fighting as if his campaign depends on it regardless.

Sabre and Kidd are somewhat familiar with one another, both from matches in the UK and in Japan, but haven’t wrestled since Kidd was a Young Lion in NJPW, and before his transformation into the Mad Man we know now. With Kidd’s wild and hard hitting approach with a rton of pride in his background, and Sabre representing an evolution of classic Strong Style grappling passed down from the greats like Robinson and Gotch, Sabre has spoken of this battle of British wrestlers ‘representing the true essence of NJPW’. There’s no doubt this will be one of the best bouts of the tournament, but who comes away with the win?

8th Match: Shota Umino (3–4) vs Jake Lee (3–4)

1*Q_qSPi9BOr6ahTCC2ke91w.jpeg

It’s a must win scenario for both men in the eighth match of the night, as Shota Umino and Jake Lee battle at six points. Lee can claim victory in his last two bouts and after a hard fought victory over Gabe Kidd, wants to continue his upswing. For Umino though, wins have been followe dby losses all the way down the line, Naito most recently in Korakuen Hall. With backs against the wall, who survives tonight?

7th Match: SANADA (4–3) vs Great-O-Khan (3–4)

Singles record: 2–0 SANADA

1*IFQA1wFm4gsqZWavOLy3NQ.jpeg

SANADA’s electrifying Korakuen Hall victory over Shingo Takagi has put him just shy of the playoff spots right now, but in strong form that he wants to maintain as he has sights set on a home town league final against Zack Sabre Jr. this weekend. For O-Khan though, the slowest of starts has started to turn itself around, but having lost his his four, he needs to keep his three match win streak alive to stay in the hunt.

SANADA and Great-O-Khan are no strangers to one another, with the two facing off twice in 2022. At Wrestle Kingdom that year, O-Khan was driven in much the same way he has been in this tournament, to beat SANADA at his own style, the result being a missed moonsault that led to disaster. Can he show the maturity gained from the last two years to keep his G1 alive?

6th Match: Tetsuya Naito (4–3) vs Callum Newman (2–5)

Singles record: 1–0 Naito

1*0H68PO4LdFX3RiOwdtEIHw.jpeg

Precious few people had Callum Newman in their G1 pool of potential winners, and those bets will not be paying out for the young Prince of Pace. Yet at four points with two very impressive wins, newman has much to be proud of. Should he derail the IWGP World heavyweight Champion, he would have much more to crow about.

The score career wise is 1–0 for Naito over Newman, with the two meeting in Osaka Jo Hall to kick off Dominion this year. Though the Pricne of Pace fell in that match, it might well have been his explosive start and performance in that bout that saw him entered into the G1 qualifying tournament that he would eventually win. With his progression a sight to behold, could he pick off the IWGP World heavyweight Champion this time?

5th Match: Los Ingobernables De Japon (Yota Tsuji & BUSHI) vs Just Five Guys (Yuya Uemura & TAKA Michinoku)

1*Cw03aQaPP-fKxuxaQ8J-_Q.jpeg

Before generational rivals Yota Tsuji and Yuya Uemura meet in Saturday’s main event to shape the face of B Block, a tag team encounter here tonight. Who will gain the upper hand?

4th Match: United Empire (Francesco Akira & Jeff Cobb) vs BULLET CLUB War Dogs (David Finlay & Gedo)

1*Mbs7-TJIXMnkeWAl_49X1g.jpeg

It’ll be a violent clash for David Finlay and Jeff Cobb Saturday in Sendai as the IWGP Global and NJPW World TV Champions do battle. Tonight, Francesco Akira and Gedo join the mix to set the pace.

3rd Match: Hirooki Goto & Tomoaki Honma vs Guerrillas of Destiny (El Phantasmo & Jado)

1*vaeBtFD9wKBOumMA2JsTzg.jpeg

Though his mental state has swung wildly over the course of his campaign, El Phantasmo hopes to ride off a motivating Korakuen Hall bout with Konosuke Takeshita to meet Hirooki Goto Saturday. Can he and Jado set the pace? Certainly Jado and Honma have their own previous to show itself in the ring.

2nd Match: HENARE & Konouke Takeshita vs HOUSE OF TORTURE (Ren Narita & Yoshinobu Kanemaru)

1*uOj6FUpgb2WihMn6iySN6Q.jpeg

HENARE and Konosuke Takeshita have made it very clear that the presence of the Alpha on the United Empire sides this tour is not through choice. Bad blood continued to boil after Takeshita beat the NEVER Champion earlier in the tour. Now though, both will be on the same side before HENARE meets Ren Narita Saturday.

1st Match: Boltin Oleg & Toru Yano vs Shoma Kato & Katsuya Murashima

1*8291BfgIGyDgqk8LVK9U5Q.jpeg

Starting off the night’s action, two thirds of the NEVER 6 Man Champions face Young Lions to start the action strong!

Just got finished watching Maxxine now it's time to watch Night 12 of the G1 Climax. Bushi almost ripped Morishima into pieces with that Boston Crab Jesus man he's a Young Lion.
