As NJPW returns to Las Vegas on October 28 for Fighting Spirit Unleashed, CMLL’s super estrella return to the cerulean blue to boot, and are a big part of the first two matches official for Vegas!
First to be announced is a match honouring the 40 year career of the legendary Atlantis. Eight man action sees the iconic tecnico alongside son Atlantis Jr. and two modern icons of Mexico and Japan in Mistico and Hiroshi Tanahashi. This all star cast will be opposite Rocky Romero, the ever spectacular Soberano Jr., budding star Adrian Quest and another iconic figure in Tiger Mask. Will these four rain on a legendary parade in Vegas?

CMLL_Ladies_Tag.jpg

Tag team action will see CMLL’s elite luchadora compete with a rising star from the NJPW Academy. Johnnie Robbie has impressed in academy classes and in the LA Dojo’s recent Showcase event adn tonight will be put to the test when she teams with Lluvia. Opposite this promising duo will be Zeuxis and Stephanie Vaquer. Vaquer became known to NJPW fans back in May in the Walter Pyramid, where her performance against Mercedes Moné in the opening match of the STRONG Women’s Championship tournament turned a lot of heads and brought the house to its feet. She’ll be looking to stamp her own mark in Vegas tonight in this can’t miss tag bout.

STRONG Openweight, Women’s title matches set for October 28 in Vegas!【NJoA】

STRONG Openweight Championship match official

Fighting Spirit Unleashed, Sam’s Town Las Vegas October 28 TICKETS
Ever since they collided in G1 Climax 33 competition earlier this summer, HENARE has been demanding a rematch with Eddie Kingston. Long stating that he has lived the life that Kingston has romanticised as a long time fan of Japanese wrestling, HENARE would attack Kingston at the G1 Climax 33 semifinals in Ryogoku, an unprovoked assault that saw a quick receipt the next night. After the Mad King and the Face of Fury brawled to the back of Sumo Hall, challenged were issued for Vegas- the question being whether the STRONG Openweight Championship would be involved.

Much to HENARE’s chagrin, Kingston would take multiple championship matches before facing the United Empire member, though in hindsight, the Mad King’s AEW Grand Slam bout with Claudio Castagnoli has only made this meeting more attractive for the Maori Warrior. Thanks to Kingston’s New York victory, he became the double NJPW STRONG and ROH World Champion, and added to the prestige of the STRONG gold with a defence at AEW’s Wrestle Dream event against Katsuyori Shibata. While only the STRONG Openweight gold is on the line in Vegas, a win would see HENARE earn his first singles gold in NJPW, and put him well on the way to the ROH title as well.

Also official for Vegas, Giulia defends her STRONG Women’s Championship against HYAN. A driven product of the Texas scene, HYAN has grown her international footprint in recent months with high profile matches in the UK, and now seeks the head of an international hot commodity in the leader of Donna Del Mondo. After Four defences between STARDOM rings in Japan and Multiverse United 2 in the US, the ‘beautiful insanity’ is back in the States and ready to face what might be her toughest challenge yet in the highly skilled HYAN.

Four more matches set for Fighting Spirit Unleashed【NJoA】

Vegas card gets more big matches confirmed

With CMLL’s estrella, together with STRONG Openweight and Women’s matches already announced, Fighting Spirit Unleashed is set to be a loaded night in Las Vegas’ Sam’s Town on October 28. Now four more huge bouts are set for this incredible Halloween weekend evening!

Destruction in Ryogoku made the main event of Wrestle Kingdom 18 official, as the Tokyo Dome on January 4 will see Tetsuya Naito challenging IWGP World Heavyweight Champion SANADA. Sumo Hall also saw the official introduction of Yuya Uemura to the Just Five Guys fold, and Uemura will be flying the J5G banner as he teams with SANADA Ocvtober 28 in Vegas. Opposite them will be Naito and IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Hiromu Takahashi for what is sure to be an explosive main event level tag match.

Strong_TagTitles.jpg

Speaking of tag matches, the NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championships will be on the line when new champions El Phantasmo and Hikuleo defend against the ‘Murder Sauce’ team of Lance Archer and Alex Zayne. Zayne and Archer first teamed together at Independence Day back in July, and though some trepidation existed between the two, especially when Archer was seen to use Zayne as a human weapon, they were quite successful and instantly made a mark, including on TMDK’s Bad Dude Tito and Kosei Fujita. Now they challenge for the STRONG Tag titles, in what should be a very interesting stylistic clash on paper between two teams of giants and dynamic athletes.

4_Way.jpg

The STRONG Tag titles join matches for the STRONG Women’s and Openweight Championships on the card in Vegas, and when it comes to the title that Eddie Kingston and HENARE are vying for, whoever holds the gold coming out of October 28 will have their next challenger set by the end of the night. A four way match will pit former champion Fred Rosser, Imperial Unit Jeff Cobb, Satoshi Kojima and Alex Coughlin against one another- who will get next for the STRONG title?

Tom_Gabe.jpg

Another former STRONG Openweight Champion will be in singles action when Filthy Tom Lawlor takes on the War Ready Gabe Kidd. Last October NJPW STRONG’s Autumn Action in Sam’s Town Live saw a loose connection formed between Lawlor’s Team Filthy and BULLET CLUB in the face of common foes. Yet that was the prior Jay White regime in BULLET CLUB, and the War Dogs era is a very different prospect. Gabe Kidd is wild enough to pick a fight with anyone anywhere, but willhe bite off more than he can chew when it comes to Lawlor?

Tama Tonga vs Shingo Takagi official for Vegas! 【NJoA】

NEVER title on the line at Fighting Spirit Unleashed

October 28 Sam’s Town Live Las Vegas Fighting Spirit Unleashed TICKETS
Watch LIVE in English on FITE! (Japanese commentary on NJPW World)

Another championship matchup has been added to Fighting Spirit Unleashed, as Tama Tonga will put the NEVER Openweight Championship on the line against Shingo Takagi.

During the G1 this year, a match Tama had been greatly looking forward to against Takagi ended in a 20 minute time limit draw. Both would acknowledge that there was business left unfinished, and though Tama would go on to win the NEVER Openweight gold against David Finlay in a hard fought war in Ryogoku, the new champion was quick to point out that he needed to finish what had been started with the Dragon.

For his part, Shingo wrestled an instant classic on October 14 against Tomohiro Ishii in London. Takagi didn’t have much time to celebrate his win though, before Tama would greet the victor and raise the issue of settling the score. Takagi suggested Vegas as the place, and now we have a time and venue. With both having proven in recent bouts they’re willing to do anything to succeed, this should be a match to remember for fans at Sam’s Town Live October 28!

Fighting Spirit Unleashed (October 28) Preview

Big card coming to Vegas

October 28 will see NJPW return to Sam’s Town Live in Las Vegas. With four titles on the line, the celebration of a lucha legend and much more besides, it’s a loaded card to come this Halloween weekend.
Fighting Spirit Unleashed Saturday October 28 Sam’s Town Live TICKETS
Watch live in English on FITE Japanese on NJPW World)!

Main event: NEVER Openweight Championship- Shingo Takagi vs Tama Tonga
Singles record: 0-0-1

Never_Championship-1.jpg

The main event of the evening will pit Tama Tonga against Shingo Takagi for the NEVER Openweight Championship. Back in the G1 Climax, this meeting was one of the most anticipated of the hard hitting C Block, but one that ended in a time limit draw with much left unsettled. After Tama Tonga finally vanquished David Finlay on October 9 in Ryogoku, the now three time NEVER Openweight Champion saw an opportunity to settle that account with Shingo, who for his own part battled Tomohiro Ishii in a memorable war at the Copper Box in London this weekend. After Takagi got his hand raised in victory over the Stone Pitbull, he would be confronted by Tama, and the two agreed to battle in Vegas with the NEVER title on the line. After years of being regarded as the ‘BMF’ title, the NEVER Openweight Championship identity might have been somewhat altered in recent months, but this is a match that should tick all the traditional NEVER boxes and some.

8th Match: Just Five Guys (SANADA & Yuya Uemura) vs Los Ingobernables De Japon (Tetsuya Naito & Hiromu Takahashi)
Special_Tag.jpg

The long road to Wrestle Kingdom continues for SANADA and Tetsuya Naito as they face off in tag team action in Vegas. Hiromu Takahasi and Yuya Uemura are tangling for the first time since the 2020 Best of the Super Jr. tournament, and ‘Heat Storm’ is ready to show the Time Bomb just how far he’s come over the last three years.

7th Match: STRONG Openweight Championship- HENARE vs Eddie Kingston
Singles record: 1-0 Kingston

Strong_Championship.jpg

Eddie Kingston and HENARE finally face off for the STRONG Openweight Championship October 28. HENARE has been clamouring for a rematch against Eddie Kingston since a hard fought contest during the G1 Climax, an issue that led to the two man brawling in Ryogoku at the finals weekend. Both verbally agreed to a match in Las Vegas, but never could get pen to paper; in the meantime the STRONG Openweight Champion Kingston added the ROH World title to his possession, and racked up a series of defences on AEW television.

What at first angered HENARE as he felt the Mad King was ducking the Face of Fury, steadily turned to appreciation and respect, as Kingston’s efforts certainly elevated the gold that’s on the line tonight, as well as the attention focused on this singles confrontation. Now, will that added attention be present to see a new STRONG Openweight Champion crowned?

6th Match: STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championship- Guerrillas of Destiny (El Phantasmo & Hikuleo) vs Monstersauce (Alex Zayne & Lance Archer)
Strong_TagTitles.jpg

New STRONG Openweight Champions El Phantasmo and Hikuleo will defend for the first time when they face Alex Zayne and Lance Archer. After ELP and Hikuleo picked up the STRONG Tag gold October 9 in Ryogoku, they were greeted backstage by cans of energy drink and packets of hot sauce- clear references to the Monster Sauce combination of Zayne and Archer. These two joined forces back in July at Independence Day in Korakuen Hall, and while it seemed like an odd couple on paper, they were effective to say the least in ring. Now we have a gripping stylistic matchup- two mirror image teams composed of a giant monster and stylish high flying spice. Which will prove the better team in Sam’s Town Live?

5th Match: STRONG Women’s Championship- Giulia vs HYAN

Womens_Championship.jpg

The STRONG Women’s Championship is on the line when Giulia defends against HYAN. Since becoming the second STRONG Women’s Champion on July 5, the Beautiful Insanity of Giulia has had a vice grip on the gold through defences in STARDOM, as well as at Multiverse United 2 back in August. After her latest defence against Ami Sohrei in Korakuen Hall though, it would be HYAN rolling the dice as the next challenger. Texan HYAN has put together a highly noteworthy year, with her appearances in IMPACT Wrestling and RevPro in the UK seeing her star on the rapid rise. Could she be the measure of one of the world’s very best in Vegas?

4th Match: Atlantis’ 40th Anniversary Match- Atlantis, Atlantis Jr., Mistico & Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Rocky Romero, Soberano Jr., Tiger Mask & Adrian Quest

Atlantic_40th.jpg

We celebrate a legend in Las Vegas on October 28 as a special eight man tag marks the 40th Anniversary of the inimitable Atlantis. This staple part of the Mexican lucha fabric forms quite the team of icons in his son Atlantis Jr., the Ace Hiroshi Tanahashi, and the incredible Mistico. Yet Rocky Romero, beloved as he is north of the border is quite the antagonist beneath it, and has been riling up CMLL’s tecnicos all year. That action spilled into a singles bout made between Rocky and Mistico on AEW Rampage October 20, and eight days later, these two colliding will create quite the subtext for a spectacular bout.

3rd Match: Tom Lawlor vs Gabe Kidd
Tom_Gabe.jpg

A first time ever singles match sees Tom Lawlor battling Gabe Kidd. One year ago in Sam’s Town Live, Tom Lawlor and Team Filthy formed a losse alliance with BULLET CLUB in the face of common foes in the likes of Homicide and Eddie Kingston. One year on though, and we’re in a very different era of the group, one with David Finlay at its head, and Gabe Kidd as one of its most dangerous foot soldiers. Kidd and partner Alex Coughlin are reeling from losing their STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championships, and the frustration has only served to make Gabe more dangerous. Whether Lawlor in Vegas tonight, or Will Ospreay backstage in London, Kidd wants to fight everyone, but has he bitten off more than he can chew against the first ever STRONG Openweight Champion?

2nd Match: Lluvia & Johnnie Robbie vs Stephanie Vaquer & Zeuxis
CMLL_Ladies_Tag.jpg
An international women’s tag team match will see the best of CMLL mix it up with hot NJPW Academy prospect Johnnie Robbie. Robbie has impressed in successive Academy showcases, and is finding her footprint steadily grow in the US and Mexico, with this the latest of a series of big opportunities. She and Lluvia will have an uphill climb however, in the face of tough competition. Zeuxis has been making her own mark in CMLL, and fans have been eager to see Stephanie Vaquer back in an NJPW ring since she was part of the STRONG Women’s Championship tournament back in May. Who makes the biggest mark tonight?

1st Match: STRONG Openweight Championship No.1 Contender’s Four Way- Satoshi Kojima vs Jeff Cobb vs Alex Coughlin vs Fred Rosser
4_Way.jpg

Kicking off the evening will be a four way match to determine the next challenger for whoever walks out of Vegas the STRONG Openweight Championship. Be it Eddie Kingston or HENARE, their work will be cut out for them in the face of this meeting of four powerhouses- who will advance from this hard hitting four way battle?

Kickoff Match 2: Team Filthy (Danny Limelight, Royce Isaacs & Jorel Nelson) vs Jakob Austin Young, Baliyan Akki & Titus Alexander
0-2.-Dark_6Man.jpg

Team Filthy are in force in six man action as Danny Limelight and the West Coast Wrecking Crew go to battle. Opposite them is quite the combination of promising independent talents; Titus Alexander has been making a name for himself on the West Coast indie scene, while Jakob Austin Young may be familiar with long time STRONG viewers. Meanwhile Baliyan Akki, a long time Japan resident and partner in crime to joshi star Mei Suruga recently connected with NJPW circles during recent CMLL matchups and looks to make a mark in his NJPW debut.

Kickoff Match 1: STRONG Survivor Match- Matt Vandagriff vs Buck Skynyr
0-1.-Dark_Singles.jpg

Also kicking off Fighting Spirit Unleashed, Matt Vandagriff will take on Buck Skynyr in a ‘STRONG Survivor Match’. This new concept will see the most promising prospects from the NJPW Academy get an opportunity on a large stage; with Vandagriff and Skynyr both impressing the likes of Fred Rosser and Rocky Romero at the NJPW Academy Showcases, they will do battle in Vegas, with the sky the limit for the winner.

Trying to figure out this life thing, what about you
Planning on catching a little of this show tonight. Sadly I'll most likely end up missing the first hour though because of the clash with Collision.

There's a lot of names I really enjoy on the card, some from indies I watch too, which is always awesome to see.

I actually haven't missed any of this show, I totally forgot that the clocks went back tonight. Worked out beautifully.

Starting with the 4-Way and I get to see some Kojima.
