It's interesting too bc even when they were heels, it was always a thing that even though they came out for other members matches, they just provided support or coaching and never did anything dirty. So it's a pretty seamless transition

yeah and really Bullet Club were the "first" to make that scummy stuff standard again in NJPW (until they became cool themselves, which is probably why they are rebranding in a way now).

It's not that different than Anime culture, a lot of the times the super bads are cool but stoic ruthless dudes, and the goons are the ones with the wacky personalities who do petty shit like cheating. the big bads usually are just super OP badasses with evil ambitions and goals. at least thats how I see the anime - manga - puroressu archtypes , they are often similar. Okada for the longest time was Luffy** before he got more serious too
