Best of the Super Jr. night 5 (May 21) Preview

A Block rolls on in Aomori
星取表_ENAOL-1.png

The Best of the Super Jr. tournament continues apace with A Block in action after just one day off Friday. Night three sees the first third of the tournament end, and all ten wrestlers looking to take charge into the demanding middle phase of the league.

Main event: Alex Zayne (2-0) vs Taiji Ishimori (2-0)
BOSJ_0521_08.jpg

After perfect starts to their respective campaigns, someone’s ‘oh’ has to go in our main event between Alex Zayne and Taiji Ishimori. Any thoughts that Alex Zayne would have difficulty adapting to competition in Japan have been dispelled in the first week in the tournament, as ‘The Sauce’ has quickly absorbed himself in Japanese culture, won the hearts of fans, and defeated two of the most devious opponents in the entire tournament in the form of Yoshinobu Kanemaru and SHO.

Those results are a clear sign that IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Ishimori will have his hands full in Aomori. Still, with the Bone Soldier getting over the mental block that Ryusuke Taguchi’s mental gamesmanship posed in Sendai, the champion will be in high spirits Saturday night. Even the most expert gameplan gets exposed by Ishimori, but can Alex Zayne’s unique brand of chaos lead to an upset champion?

7th Match: Ace Austin (2-0) vs Hiromu Takahashi (2-0)
BOSJ_0521_07.jpg

On an unpredictable night, one thing we do know is that only two at most will end the evening on a perfect score of six points, as all four perfect runners so far are facing off. In Ace Austin’s case, that means his toughest match so far in the form of Hiromu Takahashi. In one corner is the unprecedented Austin, a three time X Division Champion at just 25. In the other, a three time Best of the Super Jr. winner looking for his own unprecedented fourth trophy. Will Austin derail Hiromu? Or could Takahashi earn himself a potential future title opportunity?

6th Match: YOH (1-1) vs Yoshinobu Kanemaru (0-2)
Singles record: 2-0 YOH

BOSJ_0521_06.jpg

After YOH’s confidence was rattled going into BOSJ, and further shakes with a night one loss to Taiji Ishimori, a Direct Drive to Clark Connors would see him on the board, and in high spirits as he heads into this bout with Yoshinobu Kanemaru. Further buoying YOH’s spirits tonight is the knowledge that he’s undefeated against the Heel Master in two prior BOSJ meetings. This year, could Kanemaru be a part of another seven match win streak for YOH, or one even longer? Or can third match be the charm for Kanemaru where it comes to getting on the points board?

5th Match: Ryusuke Taguchi (0-2) vs Francesco Akira (1-1)
BOSJ_0521_05.jpg

‘I’ll take great care of the butt’ was Francesco Akira’s pre-tournament comment on Ryusuke Taguchi and the… unique style he tends to bring to the table. Taguchi can say he did the same in the first two matches of his campaign, but the self proclaimed ‘ass-lete’ has fallen short of the mark in his outings with Hiromu Takahashi and Taiji Ishimori thus far. Vowing that this is the match that he really, really will take completely seriously this time, will it also be the one where he gets the win, or can Akira bounce back from his defeat in Sendai?

4th Match: Clark Connors (0-2) vs SHO (0-2)
BOSJ_0521_04.jpg

The first tournament match of the night will see either Clark Connors or SHO break their tournament duck as they face off in a bid to get their first two points. SHO has found every attempt at a shortcut in this tournament, from wrench use to the presence of Dick Togo defused by first Francesco Akira and then Alex Zayne; can he fare better against another tournament debutant in Clark Connors? Or will it be Connors, frustrated after putting together strong gameplans that just fell short against Ace Austin and YOH, pick up his first win?

3rd Match: Robbie Eagles, Tiger Mask & Wheeler Yuta vs Suzuki-Gun (El Desperado, DOUKI & TAKA Michinoku)
BOSJ_0521_03.jpg

Despite demands from Robbie Eagles for a future ROH Pure Championship match with Wheeler Yuta after his B block opening night victory, the two are forming an impressive team so far in undercard tags, with them combining en route to Yuta’s first victory in an NJPW ring a couple of days ago in Sendai. Now the two are joined by Eagles Flying Tiger partner in Tiger Mask in a winnable trio opposite TAKA Michinoku, and the side of El Desperado and DOUKI that have been at odds ever since tournament lineups were revealed as they await their singles match next week in Chiba.

2nd Match: Master Wato & Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs Los Ingobernables De Japon (Shingo Takagi & BUSHI)
BOSJ_0521_02.jpg

A preview of Master Wato and BUSHI’s third BOSJ meeting Sunday night sees Wato team up with mentor Tenzan while BUSHI combines with KOPW 2022 holder Shingo Takagi. Wato has an intense history with BUSHI, and that will come through both in tag action and Sunday’s tournament meeting.

1st Match: Jado, Titan & El Lindaman vs BULLET CLUB (Gedo, Dick Togo & El Phantasmo)

BOSJ_0521_01.jpg

The dynamic trio of Titan, El Lidaman and Jado that left their mark on BOSJ opening night in Nagoya will take on BULLET CLUB’s Gedo, Dick Togo and El Phantasmop in the opneing match. Jado has been the glue in successful trios so far on the BOSJ undercards; can he help Titan leave a mark on ELP before their Sunday clash?

Big names added to Budokan lineup June 3!

Jay White leads heavyweight charge at Best of the Super Jr. finals
002_.jpg

Watch all of Best of the Super Jr. 29 LIVE in English on NJPW World!
On June 3, the Best of the Super Jr. 29 finals hit the Nippon Budokan, as we find out who wins the most prestigious trophy in junior heavyweight wrestling. But as the global festival of junior heavyweights reaches its climax, the international heavyweight stars are looking to make their own marks. With just days separating BOSJ in the Nippon Budokan from Dominion in Osaka Jo Hall, and then Forbidden Door in Chicago’s United Center, what moves might be made on Friday June 3?

Jay White will be at the Nippon Budokan June 3. After issuing a challenge to Kazuchika Okada for Dominion and laying out the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion with a pair of Bladerunners at Dontaku, White and Hikuleo sent a physical message to Okada at Capital Collision in Washington DC last weekend. What does the Catalyst of Professional Wrestling have in store for the Rainmaker?

2O1A1635.jpg

Also set for title action at Dominion is Karl Anderson as he looks to challenge new NEVER Openweight Champion Tama Tonga. After Anderson and Doc Gallows made their shocking return to Japan after six years away, the Good Brothers will be in force at the Budokan.

Already a champion is Juice Robinson, who won the IWGP United States Championship in controversial form after a wild four way at Capital Collision. The new US Champ makes his first Japanese appearance with the gold June 3. With new IWGP Tag Team Champions Bad Luck Fale and Chase Owens also set for the Budokan, BULLET CLUB will have a powerful lineup at the BOSJ finals.

003.jpg

Facing off against BULLET CLUB’s Karl Anderson in Osaka Jo Hall will be NEVER Openweight Champion Tama Tonga, and the Guerrillas of Destiny, represented by just Jado through the BOSJ tour, will be all together in Budokan. Furious at Anderson’s brutal post match attack at Dontaku, Tama will be looking to exact revenge June 3.

crs_340129_1.jpg

Also looking for vengeance will be Great-O-Khan and Jeff Cobb, who are trying to take back IWGP Tag Team Championship gold from Bad Luck Fale and Chase Owens at Dominion. After O-Khan was cheated out of a singles win by Chase Owens at Capital Collision, with Owens’ feet on the ropes securing victory, the Imperial Unit will join his tag partner on June 3. Meanwhile Will Ospreay, himself incensed at another questionable officiating call costing him a main event win in Washington DC, will be looking to get back on track, Aaron Henare completing a strong United Empire presence in the Nippon Budokan.

004.jpg

Zack Sabre Jr. will also be present at the Nippon Budokan. After winning the New Japan Cup and falling just a hair short of IWGP World Heavyweight Championship glory at Hyper Battle, ZSJ wants to get his 2022 back on track, and the BOSJ finals might make a fine stage for ZSJ to start the summer right.

Happy as hell theirs no Show today giving me time to get caught up. I'm going to need to have Yuta get a new finisher because the Elbows to the Face to set up the Roll up is so weird and clunky to me. The Haas of Pain would be great for him to use as a Submission Finisher just saying. El Lindaman and Titan please don't scare me like you two did taking those dives you guys unleashed on the other. I thought for sure one of you blew out your Knee. One mistake costed Eagles the win I love to see Matches like that go 50/50 and the mistake decides the winner good for Bushi.

The last thing you should do Wato is play into the hot dogging and posing like ELP you're going to taken to School everytime you do so. I saw a moment where ELP told Wato to come at him on the outside and he followed like a dummy that is the difference between you two. Despy and TJP were perfect for each other because of what those two can do inside the Squared Circle. It's not just Lucha, but they take it levels that could Main Event any Company in my opinion. Great Main Event no losers there I felt like.

And considering the commentary isn't annoying like most, I'll take it though I do like listening to Japanese commentary a bit more, lol
