Best of the Super Jr. night 5 (November 24) Preview
Junior league returns to Korakuen
bosj_EN1200_800-2.png

Best of the Super Junior 28 continues on Wednesday November 24, and the league returns to Korakuen Hall for a night that will see a theme of tag partners doing battle with one another!

Watch LIVE or in English on demand on NJPW World!

Main event: BUSHI (2-2) vs Hiromu Takahashi (2-1-1)
BOSJ record: 1-0 Hiromu

BOSJ_20211124_07.jpg

Headlining in the Hall, Hiromu Takahashi goes head to head with LIJ cohort, BUSHI. This is only the second singles encounter between the two men since Hiromu’s 2016 return from excursion, and only the third singles match between the two overall. An intense bout in last year’s BOSJ saw Hiromu pick up the victory as he continued his campaign toward his final against El Desperado. That’s a final Hiromu wants run back in 2021, but after a mixed start, BUSHI wants to build up more steam, and after enduring the full thirty minutes in ring against Despe in Aichi this Sunday, the Time Bomb could be vulnerable to an upset from hsi regular tag partner tonight.

6th Match: Taiji Ishimori (3-1) vs El Phantasmo (1-3)
BOSJ_20211124_06.jpg

BULLET CLUB’s Cutest Tag Team implodes? Unlikely, but it’s also unlikely to expect either one of Ishimori or Phantasmo to lay down for the other as both enter a critical phase of the league. With two Super J-Cups under his belt, ELP was earmarked as a favourite pre-tournament, but has had a rough start at 1-3, and a loss to Robbie Eagles in a violent war in Aichi has not helped his point score. Meanwhile Ishimori has shot to 3-1, with only old enemy Yoshinobu Kanemaru providing a blotch on his record. The Bone Soldier wants to pick up another win to help solidify himself as a top runner, while Phantasmo needs a win to avoid slipping toward the elimination bubble.

5th Match: El Desperado (1-2-1) vs DOUKI (2-2)
Singles record: 1-0 Desperado

BOSJ_20211124_05.jpg

Two more teammates collide as El Desperado faces DOUKI. Since DOUKI entered NJPW substituting for Desperado in the 2019 Best of the Super Jr., Desperado has taken a big brotherly stance toward the lucha expert, and media and backstage comments have shown hints of the IWGP Junior heavyweight Champion try to mould DOUKI as a talent. Yet, at 1-2-1 after four matches, Desperado has been forced to confront himself, asking ‘what kind of champion am I?’ This match could be a chance for Desperado to reassert himself, or it could be a chance for DOUKI to truly spread his wings as his own man. Add in the Mexican influenced stylings of both men, and this is definitely a match to keep a close eye on.

4th Match: Yoshinobu Kanemaru (3-1) vs SHO (4-0)
Singles record: 1-0 Kanemaru

BOSJ_20211124_04.jpg

SHO has only had one main event to date in this year’s Best of the Super Junior, but he has remained rooted at the top of the table, four wins putting him at eight points. Every one of those gains has been decidedly ill gotten, and there is no doubt that the days of hard fighting babyface SHO are long behind us. Yet here he faces the Heel Master in Yoshinobu Kanemaru, and someone who has forgotten more devious tactics than most can ever possibly begin to learn. Indeed, it was two years ago in this tournament, and in the same venue of Korakuen Hall that Kanemaru stole a win over SHO with the aid of a stray Young Lion and a twenty count on the floor from the referee. Every SHO match will require opponents to have eyes in the backs of their heads for HOUSE OF TORTURE. This time though, SHO will have to have the same.

3rd Match: Robbie Eagles (2-2) vs YOH (0-4)
BOSJ record: 1-0 YOH

BOSJ_20211124_03.jpg

Going back to intra factional derbies, this all CHAOS battle sees Robbie Eagles go up against YOH. Eagles’ 2-2 record isn’t exactly what the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion would have hoped for, but the Sniper of the Skies received a confidence boost Sunday in Aichi when he defeated arch rival El Phantasmo for the first time.
On the exact opposite of the confidence scale lies YOH, who fell to his fourth defeat this league to Ryusuke Taguchi at the weekend. With only ‘I knew it,’ being left for comment, YOH’s crisis of confidence, which led to a rift with former partner SHO, and has seen him handed defeat after defeat continues. YOH hasn’t been in the win column for four months, and hasn’t won a singles match since June 3 2019.
That win was against Robbie Eagles. Could Robbie be the key to restoring YOH’s Direct Drive? Time will tell.

2nd Match: Ryusuke Taguchi (2-2) vs Master Wato (1-3)
BOSJ record: 1-0 Taguchi

BOSJ_20211124_02.jpg

Rounding up the night’s tournament matches, Team Six or Nine partners Ryusuke Taguchi and Master Wato face off. Wato has made great strides over the last year, but his critics will always repeat that the blue haired prodigy has a hard time with stepping out from the shadows of his many mentors. Even in this tournament, that mentality has seen Wato try repeatedly for Hiroyoshi Tenzan’s TTD, only to see it countered each time. Could this match see him step from the shadows of his partner Taguchi, or will he be eclipsed by a steely moon?

1st Match: Ryohei Oiwa (0-0-5 this tour) vs Kosei Fujita ( – – this tour)
Singles record: 0-0-6

BOSJ_20211124_01.jpg
Ryohei Oiwa and Kosei Fujita face off for their sixth respective matches, and the seventh time against one another. Smart money may be on another draw, but could lucky number seven be the key for one or the other?

He 100% started it I'm pretty sure lol if anything Heyman or someone is copying Gedo and giving Vince the ideas :lol

It's really just classic nWo era WCW main events that I hated too, with only slightly better wrestling than Hogan if that

yeah its just the closest thing I could think outside of YB/GB interfering in each others and Kenny's match but even they had flaws and all eventually got their comeuppances. this evil n co stuff seems like its a lot of go away heat to me from smarks but mb were being worked idk lol

I'd compare the YBs and Kenny stuff more to Roman and Usos bc at least the action before the interferences was better (could see that making it more disappointing too) but this house of torture stuff is just boring and then trash interference:lol

yeah even roman matches by their fan's opinions (i havent watched enough to have an opinion either way) like the matches and same with the bucks and kenny stuff (the matches were good and they actually did end up doing it sparingly, didnt use it for danielson match either thank fuck). evil is pretty mediocre and it sounds liek the rest of the faction is the same work rate wise and its not like they cutting outstanding promos so ya, this sounds a lot fucking worse lol

The best part is Kevin Kelly just absolutely burying them lol he sounded so dead inside for the second SHO win of this tournament. Just absolutely defeated and already accepting that this was gonna be the whole tournament.

Also I will say that before the G1 when EVIL wasn't in the main event as much and doing the KOPW shit with Yano, it felt like I was "in on the joke" with hating on EVIL and not legit disliking him like now

Best of the Super Jr. night 6 (November 27) Preview
Junior tour heads to Fujisawa
bosj_EN1200_800-4.png

Best of the Super Jr. passes its midway point on Saturday November 27 in Fujisawa, as competition gets more and more heated with just over two weeks to go before the Ryogoku finals.
Watch LIVE or in English on demand on NJPW World!

Main event: Hiromu Takahashi (3-1-1) vs Taiji Ishimori (3-2)
Singles record 3-1 Hiromu BOSJ record: 2-0 Hiromu

BOSJ_20211127_07.jpg

At the top of the card in Fujisawa, Hiromu Takahashi and Taiji Ishimori do battle. Almost one year ago, Hiromu beat Ishimori on January 5 in the Tokyo Dome to lift the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, and made the promise on his exit that soon his then freshly won title would headline in the Dome. This match could be a big part of that plan, as Hiromu still vows to win the Best of the Super Jr and headline in Wrestle Kingdom, Will Ospreay’s IWGP World heavyweight Championship challenge notwithstanding.

Ishimori has only defeated Hiromu once, at Summer Struggle in Jingu last year, and it was with a gameplan that has served the Bone Soldier well in recent months. It was with concerted shoulder work that saw Ishimori victorious over El Desperado last week in Korakuen Hall, that won him the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship last summer over Takahashi, and nearly saw him to a retention at Wrestle Kingdom. Will Hiromu be able to counter Ishimori and stay on the winning track? After pulling up short rather than rock his partner El Phantasmo with a loaded boot in Korakuen Hall, Ishimori is sure to have no such mercy tonight.

6th Match: Robbie Eagles (2-3) vs El Desperado (2-2-1)
Singles record: 2-1 Desperado

BOSJ_20211127_06.jpg

Another high profile championship rematch will see Robbie Eagles face El Desperado for a 2021 rubber match after one win apiece over the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. Eagles shocked the world with his title win at Wrestle Grand Slam in the Tokyo Dome, and battled intensely to his ultimate defeat back to the masked rudo on November 6 at Power Struggle.
Neither the current nor the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion has gotten off to the hottest of starts in the first half of this tournament; after a loss to YOH in Korakuen this week, Eagles has a negative record while Desperado’s is barely even at two wins, two losses and a draw. With a spot ain the finals December 15 hanging in the balance from here on out, there is no doubt that this will be a hotly competitive matchup. Each will likely try to target the other’s knee; or might a change in traditional strategy see one man victorious?

5th Match: BUSHI (2-3) vs El Phantasmo (2-3)
Singles record: 1-0 Phantasmo

BOSJ_20211127_05.jpg

Two members out of a three way bout at Castle Attack this February that saw El Desperado emerge as IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, and after several tag encounters, BUSHI and El Phantasmo meet for only the second time directly one on one tonight. Their 2019 BOSJ meeting saw ELP on top; after a rocky campaign for both men thus far has seen them to 4 points each, how will this encounter play out?

4th Match: Master Wato (2-3) vs YOH (1-4)
BOSJ_20211127_04.jpg

After a roll-up win over Robbie Eagles in Korakuen Wednesday, YOH’s torrid start to Best of the Super Jr. 28 has finally seen some light as YOH sits at two points. Meanwhile a win against Ryusuke Taguchi has seen Master Wato improve to four points, but the young future Grand Master still has to come to terms with a negative win:loss record in the first half of his campaign. It’s safe to say neither start has been ideal, but the second half of the tournament could see things change with a big win in Fujisawa.

3rd Match: DOUKI (2-3) vs SHO (4-1)
Singles record: 1-0 SHO

BOSJ_20211127_03.jpg

In Korakuen this past Wednesday, Yoshinobu Kanemaru was the de facto Babyface Master against SHO, ending the Murder machine’s seemingly unstoppable run to the delight of fans the world over. Meanwhile, DOUKI would battle El Desperado to a hard fought loss, eventually forced to submit to Numero Dos. Could that contest with his Suzuki-Gun brother inspire him to success against the Murder machine, or will he experience SHO’s brand of torture in Fujisawa?

2nd Match: Ryusuke Taguchi (2-3) vs Yoshinobu Kanemaru (4-1)
Singles record: 1-1

BOSJ_20211127_02.jpg

The two most experienced veteran competitors of the tournament face off in the first BOSJ match of the night, as Ryusuke Taguchi takes on Yoshinobu Kanemaru. Is the master of heels best the master of hips? Taguchi is looking to regain momentum after a loss to partner Master Wato in Korakuen Hall this week, while Kanemaru is riding high having ended the dominant dirty run that SHO experienced in his first four matches. This is going to be a battle of sharp minds and experienced hands, but who will emerge victorious?

1st Match: Yuto Nakashima (0-0-6) vs Ryohei Oiwa (0-0-6)
Singles record: 0-0-5

BOSJ_20211127_01.jpg

With all three of our Young Lions having wrestled one another six times so far, we don’t seem anywhere closer to breaking the trend of ten minute ties. Could this finally be the night to break the deadlock? We’ll find out Saturday.
