NJ town closes road for horny salamanders

They brake for salamanders. In what has to be one of the more bizarre traditions of small-town America, East Brunswick, N.J., has shut down Beekman Road for the past 11 years to help resident salamanders migrate from the woods to the wetlands for their mating season. Hundreds of the 3-inch amphibians wriggle their way out of the forest and across Beekman in a multiday process that has become a local fixture, with upward of 100 people turning up to watch. Some people give Jersey flak, but any town that shuts down a road to help tiny amphibians get laid is OK by us.

You've got to love small towns, they provide such great little stories. It's awesome that more than 100 people actually go out to watch them cross the road!
