CLEVELAND, Ohio – Nintendo appears to be sick of yielding the gaming world spotlight to Sony and Microsoft.
The storied video game company has announced a March 2017 launch date for its new next-generation console system codenamed "NX." The new system is intended to compete with, or perhaps dwarf, Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One.
Nintendo will launch "NX" with a new "The Legend of Zelda" game acting as its flagship title. The game will be released simultaneously for "NX" and Wii U with an "open world" format.
NX is rumored to have a smaller controller than Wii U with a portable screen. Fans, surprisingly, won't get a sneak peak at "NX" this summer. Nintendo said it won't debut the game at June's E3 event.
