McMahon joining New World Pro-Wrestling is one of those 'One for the ages' moments. The only McMahon involved in Wrestling and it's the 'realism' philosophy one. Very interesting appointment.

Notes from Shane McMahon interview with Ariel Helwani

On Joining New World Pro-Wrestling
- "Discussions had been going on for a while. Initially they wanted me to join as a 'face of the company' which I agreed to but I felt like I wanted to be more 'part of it' and spoke to Seaport and Bushiroad and looked at options. Things move fast man but it's exciting to now be able to speak about this."

On leaving WWE - "Ultimately, the place isn't what it was when I was last there. It's changed considerably. Thats not a bad thing. Its life I guess, things change. We all move on. For me, that was a previous chapter where my family created the biggest pro wrestling company in history. I want to carve my own history now."

On Vince - "He's doing well. It's difficult because he's my father but ultimately he's doing his own thing. I understand how people feel about him. I cant change that. I respect that."

On 'What will stand New World Pro-Wrestling out from the rest of the companies?' - "We want to do things differently, we want to be more sports presented, we want to be the true alternative. We feel most of these companies all do it the same way, the same protocol. Very few deviate from that old tried and tested method. The in ring promos, the skits, the comedy. We want to strip it back and make it about the wrestling. Who is the best? Tournaments, win/loss records, weight classes, time limits. Just try and do it differently, so it sets us apart. I think NJPW and that strong style Japanese philosophy is the base, now we want to create a new more realistic 'wrestling universe' around it".

On new signings - "We're on the look out. We have meetings each day to see who is available and whether they are suitable. We require Wrestlers that fit our profile. They need to have a sense of organic realism and believability. Not everyone has that so it's important to take our time. Signing Okada, Miro and Ibushi was huge for us. It shows our ambition firstly. In terms of where they fit in, I will sit down with IWGP President Harold Meji as they may be in the running for shots for those belts but Okada especially definitely is in the NWA Heavyweight Division. I think someone that great deserves a shot at the heavyweight title"

On the future of Pro Wrestling - "I see New World Pro-Wrestling finding it's place as a main player in the sport. Our deal with Amazon Prime is second to none. To get that deal over the line straight out of the gate was not only incredible but important. I helped a little there but ultimately, the deal cements where we wanted to be. Visible on one of the largest media platforms in the world. Come January 2026. You know where you need to go to watch our events. It's pretty simple"

New World Pro-Wrestling:

This is quite the undertaking. Very unique, as classical as the fantasy booking “create-a-company” concept is. I think among them, this is absolutely on the way (if not already) the most thought-out and anticipation-building one I’ve read - and that covers a lot of ground.

Obviously on the realism front, there’s not a whole lot to it. Figures like Harold Meij being involved would not make many New Japan Pro Wrestling talents happy, though Shane McMahon’s involvement in something like this is not all that far-fetched, given his informal meeting with Tony Khan fairly recently. I’m not sure how easy it would be to pull television deals this early on, before a show has been announced.

I like how a lot of this has been mapped out, with not much to note apart from we have about three pages of press releases and journal entries. Obviously it’s a long-haul and a slowburn to begin establishing the roster, and get a start on crafting shows and championships.

It’s all a little idealised, but again that’s what you typically do have to resort to with ambitious works such as these. Some of the Twitter posts from Dave Meltzer sounded a little corporate and not much like him, but it can take some skill to replicate Tweets to that extent.

I suppose my main hope is that we don’t go overboard with star power and farfetched hires from the big companies, a la WWE and AEW. I would not mind some tinkering with Scott D’Amore and Maple Leaf Wrestling, given how they are really starting to gain notoriety. Could be a good tie-in, as they are on the lookout for television too. Maybe a working relationship or talent exchange?

We’ll see how it goes. The fact we’re three pages in like I say, is a good sign you have this all mapped out beforehand. I’ll have to wait and see where we go as this picks up.

Hey @DTP.

Thanks for the feedback, always appreciated. Always nice to hear from people who have read so far.

To go over a few things raised.

1 - In terms of Harold Meji been involved. It wouldnt be from a booking point of view. If you were looking to take over a company from a different Country with completely different methods of dealing with potential Japanese corporate sponsors (Something Meji has experience in), event venues as well as the obvious stuff like trying to communicate with other business people like the Bushiroad executives, Meji would be a perfect 'go between' as he would have knowledge and experience in all of those areas as well as someone who has been to University in the USA and would know the way both Countries work on a business level. Personally, I feel in my story, one of the only ways you get a foot in the door with negotiations to buy a company like that with barely any knowledge of business practices in that particular Country is having someone like Meji as a mediator. Someone who can help both parties get what they want.

I dont think Manson would care that much about talent not liking someone. I've seen many people take executive positions where you struggle to figure out why they've been appointed, but there is method to madness a lot of the time.

In terms of pulling off a TV deal before events have taken place. I would imagine you have to do a lot of leg work. Show the broadcast partner what tools you will potentially have. In July 2025, you have NJPW effectively which isnt a bad place to start. You have to then pepper in Western talent to compliment what we've already aquired. Going into the discussions with Amazon Prime, your basically telling them / offering them content. I would imagine in any major broadcasting contract there would be penalties / clauses should either party fail to deliver what has been signed. We are offering 4 shows a week live, and around 12 PPV events a year. It's up to us to make it happen.

2 - Yeah, I didnt want to go straight into cards, and events. Its more of a 'fantasy life' that I'm writing about. Some sort of alternate universe where I did all this stuff. Mental really but keeps me sane while I'm working and bored. I think over the next month you will start to see both the IWGP and NWA divisions fleshed out and I think I will build to WrestleKingdom and TheOne PPV events in September / October.

3 - Fair comments on the tweets from Meltzer. TBH, I might deviate from that to just doing official social media posts from New World Pro-Wrestling accounts rather than what I feel the sheets would have been saying. TBH, Its not about that anyway.

4 - In terms of signings etc. I will try to keep it as realistic as possible. I guess 2025 is a bit of a pisser when it comes to setting up a roster, especially in the Western world that has a level of magic / star power. Lets be honest, they are all either in WWE or AEW. Thats why I needed to sprinkle a little 'fantasy dust' with the signings of Okada and Ibushi etc. I needed something to get us off the ground. Partnerships? Nah, for me, we are on our own, a different format altogether. Our own universe if you will. We will sign people from the Indies or Free Agents. No partnerships.

I like that were building in real time. Now, it's real time in an alternate universe where a private equity company has taken over one of the biggest promotions in the world and are looking to compete with the big boys so we do have money behind us. It gives me a little wiggle room to make deals with wrestlers other promotions wouldnt be able to. But there are confines like I say. We wont have partnerships with other companies. We are going to be different and will require a profile of wrestler that is specific to what we want to achieve. It might not always work but will try my best to make it as realistic and interesting as possible.

State of the Organisation Address

Keeping both NWA and IWGP as strong style, disciplined tournament-based governing bodies with a focus on win/loss records will create a consistent, competitive atmosphere across the globe while still allowing regional identity through geography and rosters.

What this means for New World Pro-Wrestling (NWPW):

1. Consistent Competitive Philosophy

  • Both promotions emphasize pure wrestling skill and honest competition.
  • Wrestlers’ rankings and title shots earned strictly through results, no interference, no shortcuts.
  • This appeals to fans who want legitimacy and sports-like structure.

2. Parallel Tournaments & Rankings

Both IWGP (Southeast Asia) and NWA (North America/Europe) run mirrored tournaments for all weight classes and divisions:

  • Heavyweight, Middleweight, Lightweight (Men)
  • Super Heavyweight & Super Lightweight Tag (Men)
  • Bantamweight, Featherweight (Women)
  • Super Bantamweight & Super Featherweight Tag (Women)

3. Strong Style Identity Worldwide

  • You keep the strong style roots alive worldwide — hard strikes, stiff submissions, brutal endurance battles.
  • This builds a unified brand identity for NWPW, just with regional flavor in rosters and storylines.

4. How to Handle Cross-Regional Storylines

  • For the first few years, keep IWGP and NWA separate geographically to build stars organically.
  • Maintain distinct rosters and rankings for each region’s tournaments and championships.
  • Save inter-regional title unification matches or tournaments for big pay-per-views after 2–3 years to maximize hype.

Initial Tournament Ideas

New World Pro-Wrestling running G1 Heavyweight Tournaments annually for both IWGP and NWA to crown the #1 contender for their respective Heavyweight Championships adds a legendary, high-stakes centerpiece to each calendar year.

How this fits into New World Pro-Wrestling (NWPW):

1. Signature Events in Both Regions

  • IWGP G1 Heavyweight Tournament in Southeast Asia — a grueling round-robin with the best IWGP Heavyweights battling for the right to challenge the IWGP Heavyweight Champion.
  • NWA G1 Heavyweight Tournament in North America/Europe — same format, same prestige, but with the NWA Heavyweight roster.

2. Tournament Format & Stakes

  • Round-robin blocks (e.g., Block A and Block B) with point systems (2 points for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for loss).
  • Block winners face off in a final match at a major event (maybe the regional “King of the Ring” or “Final Battle” style show).
  • Winner becomes the #1 contender and earns a guaranteed title shot at a major show.

3. Booking & Angle Potential

  • Showcase rising stars and veterans alike in a competitive, endurance-focused setting.
  • Classic rivalries rekindled, new ones born through high-pressure matches.
  • Builds major anticipation for the title matches that follow.

Example IWGP G1 Yearly Flow:

  • Early Year: IWGP G1 Heavyweight Tournament (Jan–March)
  • Spring Show: IWGP Heavyweight Championship match (G1 winner vs. champ)
  • Rest of the year: Defense and other tournaments in other weight classes
