You miss 80's music and are looking for new songs post-2005? Well, I've got something that may interest you, it's a band called Rock Sugar. They have a backstory that I'm not willing to get into because it doesn't matter, but their thing is combining 80's pop hits with 80's metal songs. I'll post my personal favorites in the following spoiler tag, along with what songs they used . . .
Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi + Working for the Weekend by Loverboy + Sweet Child o' Mine by Guns N' Roses
Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi + Here Comes the Rain Again by Eurythmics, Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) by Eurythmics + Nobody’s Fool by Cinderella
Voices Carry by 'Til Tuesday + Welcome to the Jungle by Guns N' Roses
Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne + Jessie's Girl by Rick Springfield
Don't Stop Believin' by Journey + Enter Sandman by Metallica
Okay, now with them out of the way, my favorite band of all-time actually comes post-2005 . . . or at least there first full-length album was released post-2005. The band's name is Marianas Trench and while I can go on and explain in detail why they are my favorite band, I'm way too lazy to do so at the moment and their music should do it for the most part. I'll just be posting a few tracks from each album that stand out to me. Fair warning, I'll be posting a lot, I can't help myself. Not so much from their first album, and definitely not from there EP as it's really their last two albums that they hit their stride in my opinion (has a bit of a broken base there).
For the record, I did hold back. Specifically with Masterpiece Theatre and to a lesser extent Ever After. Masterpiece Theatre III is probably my favorite from them but it works so much better if you're familiar with the other songs from the album. Mostly because Masterpiece Theatre is a concept album (as is Ever After), and Masterpiece Theatre III is the grand finale that incorporates every single song on the album and even one from the previous album (Say Anything) and does so without feeling forced. I still think it's really great on it's own, but it becomes so much better if you've listened to the rest of the album. It's stuff like that way the became my favorite.
