New GTA In Development

A new Grand Theft Auto game will be coming next year, reports industry analyst Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities.

Pachter's latest reports say that Take-Two has been developing a new title in the series - not an expansion - for over a year and that the publisher plans to release the game next year or possibly 2011 at the latest.

"Management declined to state when the game will launch, but has confirmed to us that the game is in development, has been for over a year, and is using the same game "engines" as the last version," Pachter wrote.

"Management also told us that the team at Rockstar North is highly motivated to get the game out, and that the team understands that its highest payday will come from working on GTA instead of any other game. When we do the simple math, we conclude that the next installment is likely to be completed by some time in 2010, although given the frequency of game delays, it is not clear that it will necessarily come before October 31, 2010."

"However, it is clear to us that the next version of GTA will arrive before the end of [Fiscal Year 2011]," he added.

Alan Lewis, VP of corporate communications for Take-Two, declined to comment on the report saying: "We only provide comments on information released directly by the Company. It is our policy to not comment on speculation by the media or analysts."

This is sorta off topic, but I remember back before GTA 4 came out, and there was speculation about the storyline that GTA 4 was going to be back in the 1920's, complete with mobsters and old cars and stuff. In theory it sounds kinda cool, IMO, but it could have been really awful if it had been done badly. The cars would have been pretty slow, lol.

Wasn't GTA IV modern day? Vice City was 80's, San Andreas was 90's. They could do the 50's make it Godfather-esque or the 20's with a John Dillinger like character.

why do people forget about III? it was the fuckin best, and it was in the late 90s after SA's story ended.

Not at all. I remember reading it in an issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, not too long after GTA: VC came out. It was a while ago, and it was speculation. I'm also aware of Mafia 2.

Agreed it's sad when an older generation game is better. GTA4 was the biggest let down. They were advertising graphics that looked real but when it came out it looked no where near what they were advertising. Besides the car explosions it actually looks really bad when you compare it to other big games. But I'm not a graphics whore it's just what they were advertising and it's a huge game so it should look better. The biggest issue is the amount of weapons. The older games have more weapons. Actually the really biggest issue is if you compare it to Saints Row 2. There are literally hundreds of more things you can do In Saints Row. Most people play GTA for the fun and Saints Row 2 has a 100x more shit to offer.
