As previously expected, a new Assassin's Creed game will be out before the end of 2012.
The news was confirmed by Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot during a conference call with investors today. He didn't provide any specifics about what the game will be called or entail, just that it's planned for release at some point next year.
"There will be another great, full-fledged Assassin's Creed title next year," he said, according to Eurogamer. "It will be another major release and we will be communicating more about it in the coming months."
A new Assassin's Creed game, Revelations, is coming out next Tuesday, November 15. We recently heard from Ubisoft's Alexandre Amacio that the plan is to increase the time in between Assassin's Creed releases, only their hands are tied when it comes to the next game as a story has been built around a 2012, end-of-the-world plot.
"In Assassin's Creed we set up a timeline with this whole end of the world plot of December 2012," he said last month. "That's fast approaching, and the story we have to tell, we obviously need to do it before we arrive at that point."
"We had such a complex and strong narrative that we ourselves did our best to just try to execute these games before that date," he continued. "It would be stupid of us to be centering a game on a semi-reality and then have that conclusion happen after that date in real life."
There have already been two main games in the series since Assassin's Creed II came out in 2009, so it might be time for Assassin's Creed III. Whatever it's called, with Wii U set to be released sometime next year, the Assassin's Creed game promised for that system may turn out to be this game planned to come out in 2012.
The one detail we know about the new game, based on previous comments, is that it will mark the end of Desmond's story, Desmond being the present-day descendant of the assassins which players spend the bulk of their time playing as.

I can understand them wanting to stretch out the games but it was nice having a new release every year, and even with the limited time they where great games. Interesting to see more details on all of this, mainly what time frame it will be set in.

For the love of God, medieval England. PLEASE.

I guess Assassins Creed III is in 2012. Hopefully the series continues after that, I guess it will because of that comment about wanting to spread out the time between releases more. That part is a shame, but hopefully they can make even more improvements to the games then. I wish they'd just drop the whole present day shit and just tell stories like Ezio's set entirely in the past. That's the part of the series I love. I'm not interested in fucking 2012 end of the world shit and conspiracy theories.

Haven't played AC Revelations yet and they are already making another one, I can tell I won't be disappointed with this one.
