EXCLUSIVE: Producers John Wells and Arnold Kopelson are bringing the 1997 feature The Devil’s Advocate to television as a potential series. The legal drama with a supernatural twist, from Warner Bros. TV, has landed at NBC with what I hear is a put pilot commitment. Written by Matt Venne (Bag Of Bones, The Exorcism Of Molly Harley), the series centers on a public defender who joins a law firm that is run by the Devil himself. In the 1997 movie, produced by John Wells 5Oscar winner Kopelson for Warner Bros., the young lawyer was played by Keanu Reeves, with Al Pacino playing his boss. The film, based on Andrew Neiderman’s novel of the same name, was directed by Taylor Hackford,Matt Venne 4 with Charlize Theron co-starring. It grossed $153 million dollars on a $57 million budget. The Devil’s Advocate series is produced by WBTV and studio-based John Wells Prods., with Wells, Kopelson and Andrew Stearn executive producing and Venne, repped by APA, Industry Entertainment and Stone, Meyer, Genow, serving as a co-executive producer. WBTV and JWP are producing the Showtime dramedy Shameless. On the feature side, Wells is directing a feature starring Bradley Cooper.
