At least they got Phil. Hard to not get a little excited for that, no?

I don't know what to expect from the Zen master. If he was coaching, I'd be excited to see him coach a team that isn't stacked. Front Office? Meh... whatever

Phil is too old to be coaching 80-90 games a season at this point in his life. I think he will help, but idk how much. That team is a mess right now. Personally feel they would be better off seeing what they could get in a sign-and-trade for Melo and starting over, because the way that roster is assembled currently is just an eyesore.

Apparently the best 5 man lineup in the NBA per 100 possessions is Steph-Klay-Dala-Draymond-D Lee

That is fucking nuts that the best lineup in the NBA features D Lee at center

Well from what I heard Phil's number one goal is to retain Melo then implement the triangle.
I imagine those two things go without saying. Its what he plans to do after that that will get interesting. How long are they saddled with Amare?

everyone is off the books after the 2014/2015 season besides J.R. Smith and Hardaway. He basically has an entire team to build that summer depending on what he does with Melo.

Don't forget Felton and Pablo!

I'll be interested to see what happens, but I don't exactly expect Phil to build a contender

Rondo and Melo together :eww2: gross

then again I'm not sure what stars you build around Melo that sound good to me. Melo is sort of the guy I wouldn't want to build a team around.

If I was Melo and really wanted to stay in NY, I'd just take that player option, maybe add another player option for 2014/2015 just so he's secure incase of injury. Then I'd see what they do with the roster, and depending on that stay or go.

Nah, Melo is nearing the tail end of his prime, he needs to opt out and get a max deal ASAP as far as maximizing his earning potential in the NBA goes.

edit: again, for the record though, I can't see any team investing a max in Melo competing for anything other than tv ratings.

Well, if that's what he wants then he will stay in NY regardless because they can offer him 30 million more? It's something significant, don't quote me on the hard 30. If he is willing to take a pretty big pay cut and go to a winner, I don't see why it would be LA to play with Kobe like everyone is saying. Why would he leave a shitty team for an even shittier team for less money? That just doesn't make sense to me when people tell me that stuff.

In my perfect world, Mr. Zen brings in lebron this summer, shows him his rings, and zens him right into NY.
Realistically, we might be good in 5 years

All New York can offer is an extra year on the max deal.

I still say a sign and trade is best for Melo and the Knicks. Again though, I think of contenders that Melo could go to and I can't think of a landing spot where he fits in. His game is just so overbearing it doesn't fit in with a team concept, you basically have to just build around him, and I can't see a team built around Melo winning much. I think the team he had his last year in Denver was pretty ideal for what a Melo team needs to succeed, and he apparently hated it. Go figure.
