That's actually what turned me off from the series in the first place was the dumbass fans of the series. But in Naruto the main characters are actually almost always portrayed as 10x weaker than the fully grown "veterans" throughout the first part of the series. Then the 2nd part which is 2 years in advance (Shippuden), they eventually overpower guys that they should be way weaker than. But basically Naruto (main character/Orange ninja) and Sasuke (Gay ninja) are basically God-modded thanks to their techniques. I would recommend watching a few of the early eps/chapters, then take it from there. It's worth giving a chance.
