Why can't he play like that at Wimbledon?

I missed the match as I was working, but I'll definitely have to rewatch it.

For anyone who saw it, was it Murray dominating or Federer feeling the effects of that long match against del Potro? Or a combination of the both (which is what I assume). His service game against Djokovic was awesome, and I assume it was the same caliber against Federer.

I'm glad for Andy Murray, it's cool he got to win his second chance match in front of his home fans. It would be nice if he could string together some good performances, as he's got a real shot to move up in the world rankings if Nadal is hurt significantly.

Yeah, I had a feeling he'd win. It was the perfect combination of things for him: Federer played a long match that he got dominated in and barely won, Murray played a short match that he dominated, and he'd been looking comfortable the whole Olympics.

It'd be cool to see him win the US Open, and have four different Slam winners, but I'll still pull for Federer or Nadal over him, but he's a very close third. I hope that 2013 is his year and that he can win one or two tournaments finally.

Even though you're right that Federer played a long match before, Federer said it made no difference. Of course he's a very modest and one of the most gracious gentlemen in the sport, but even so he didn't really look tired in the match. He didn't play too bad either, it was just Murray on a different level and Federer did admit that. I really hope this does result in success in majors now for Murray, because he made Djokovic and Federer look average in the olympics, why no in the US open? Though I have a feeling Roger will win that, and I wouldn't mind -- I absolutely love the guy.

If Nadal is hurt, Federer has almost a stroll to the finals, as he avoids the headache that is playing Rafa. I think Murray has a shot with newfound confidence, but the surface favors Djokovic, and I think him and Federer will square off.

Like I said though, it all depends on how Nadal's knee is, because if he's good to go he'll rape as always.

Nadal went from being invincible to easily beatable recently, I guess it was his knee injury that slowed him down. Djokovic imo has took his place, where if he plays his best no one beats him. It was Federer years ago, then Nadal, and now Novak.

Djokovic has been struggling a little lately, at least compared to his dominance last year. He won in Australia, but then lost in the finals at the French to the #2 player, lost in the semifinals at Wimbledon to the (then) ranked 3 player, then lost at the Olympics to the 4 (world) player in the semifinals.

Not saying that rankings determine a player, but the trend has been that he has progressively lost to worst ranked players and been eliminated before the finals. And at Wimbledon and the Olympics, he pretty much got crushed by Federer and then Murray. I think the other players have made a bit of an adjustment, and now it'll be his turn to work harder to dominate again. He even barely made it to the finals at the US Open last year, he had to come back from 40-15 on Federer's match point.

I do think he's got the most potential, what with Federer's age and Nadal's knee, but he's going to have to up his game, or at least make it to the finals at the US Open, because he's just not quite playing at the same level as last year.

__________

Also, I don't know why, but I find myself not liking Djokovic. I respect his game and his amazing ability, but something about the guy annoys me. Maybe its the fact he looks like a dinosaur.

His racket of choice, however, I approve of. Head easily makes the best quality racket, in my opinion at least.

Agree with most, but I'm a die hard babolat fan. I used to play Tennis competitively and I tried Wilson, Head, Prince and Babolat and Babolat was insane for me at least. So much power.

I dislike Wilson personally, I don't know why, none of them feel right. I've never tried a Babolat personally, just Wilson, Head, and Prince, and of the three I like the extreme lightweight titanium Head rackets.

I just read today, also, that Federer (along with Nadal) are skipping the Rodger's Cup. Federer said he wants to have a break to recover from Wimbledon/Olympics before the US Open. Sucks for the fans in Toronto, first no Nadal and now no Federer...unfortunate timing :(

Understandable for Federer. Wimbledon final (played a lot of sets there too iirc) and then Olympics he played a LOT too. I'm surprised Murray isn't doing the same.

Yeah, especially with him going to the gold medal game for mixed doubles as well.

Federer says he'll play Toronto in 2013 though, so at the very least we get one more year of Federer and also get to see an attempt to beat Sampras for most Wimbledon victories.
