I think only a few movies fit this category for me. 10/10 in my view is basically a masterpiece, in that it's near impossible to find any flaws with it. I'll name a few that instantly come to mind.

The Shawshank Redemption

large_9O7gLzmreU0nGkIB6K3BsJbzvNv.jpg

I know this is predictable as shit, but it's hard to not consider this film a masterpiece. I honestly was in the camp that thought it may be overrated because of how absurdly high the ratings were but it really does deserve it. Always a good film to rewatch again, and I can't really think of a bad scene. Tons of emotional scenes, especially when Brooks leaves prison. The soundtrack is stunning, the cast is amazing, the characters are really well written, and the storyline is satisfying. Also, I think the rehabilitated scene is amazing.

Back to the Future

il_570xN.1398337758_miud.jpg

Whilst the Back to the Future series isn't without it's plot holes, it's such an amazing series. I think it's just such a perfect movie, packed with so much fun and really breathed a lot of life in to the time travel genre. Marty and Doc is one of the most iconic duos you'll ever get, and the movie never seems to get any less entertaining the more you watch. The soundtrack is also once again top notch. I really think a soundtrack is a large part of what makes the best movies so memorable.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day

Yeah, one of the best action movies of all time. Absolutely love the shit out of this movie. I think it's one of those sequels that really outshines the original movie, and that really isn't easy to do. Arnie is so much better in this one, and I much prefer the direction they went in. Shame what happened to Edward Furlong as he got older, but he's also great in this film as well. I choose the scene above because well it's awesome.

I can get down with BTTF and T2 for 10s. Blade Runner would be my easy choice.

I'll second that. Blade Runner is awesome, also really enjoyed 2049 but obviously isn't as good as the original film. I absolutely love the setting and aesthetic of Blade Runner, so easy to get pulled in to that world.

I actually would say the same about The Matrix as well, I'm debating with myself whether I think that's a 10 but it comes close. The sequels were sadly not great.

I'll go for 3. Couple of classics and one more modern.

Casablanca

Casablanca-header.jpg

One of the best scripts ever put to film. Ilsa's smile. Rick's pride. Laszlo's determination. Endless potential for quotability as the great scenes stack upon eachother. "Play La Marseillaise. Play it." could easily have been one of the most iconic lines in cinema had it not been overshadowed by about 5 others in the same film.

12 Angry Men

image.jpg

As far as flawless goes, this is it. One claustrophobic room, 12 very well developed and flaw humans and a long, gripping, twist-filled conversation that highlights and challenges prejudice and the legal system but leaves you with a sense of hope that we can do better.

Before Sunset

before20sunset.jpg

Yup, a 10/10 sequel. Take the best romantic drama you can find, add 9 years of history and memories, cut all the fat and set it across 77 minutes in Paris. The moment in the car when Celine reaches out to comfort Jesse but pulls her hand back without him noticing (mirroring a scene from Before Sunrise) might be the best 2 seconds of cinema ever imo.

I always thought I was in the minority for liking Before Sunset more than Sunrise, both are quality of course. What'd you think of Before Midnight?

Also throwing out another classic that a lot probably haven't seen but I'd def say Double Indemnity from 1944 is 10/10 as well. SWERVES ON TOP OF SWERVES :mark:

Well Grim just ended the thread.

M is a great shout, always forget about that one. That era of German cinema was just fucking masterful. Also Bride of Frankenstein > Frankenstein

It's amazing how much German Expressionism is dearly missed in cinema today. We could go for a few movies that strip things back to the basics of that sort of era. It'd be refreshing to see tbh.

Metropolis is another one I'd probably say is 10/10 but there's so many cuts, you def don't wanna watch the one with the music from the 80s :jp:
