HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. – A 25-year-old Hendersonville woman is behind bars in Sumner County on murder charges after she admitted to killing her infant twins, minutes after they were born.

According to a Hendersonville Police Department affidavit, Lindsey Lowe gave birth to her first son sometime between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Monday night on a toilet in a bathroom of her parents' Park Circle home.

Lowe told detectives the baby was crying and she did not want her parents, who were unaware she was pregnant, to hear.

Lowe reported she placed her bare hand over the child's mouth and held it there until the baby fell silent and died.

A few minutes later, Lowe told authorities she gave birth to a second child in a similar manner.

Again, Lowe said the baby was crying so she put her hand over the baby's mouth and kept it there for several minutes until the child died.

According to the affidavit, Lowe then placed the babies' bodies in a laundry basket in her bedroom and covered them with a blanket to prevent them from being discovered.

Two days later, around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Lowe's father called police to report he'd discovered a newborn baby dead in a basket in his daughter's room.

Officers located Lowe at a local dentist office, her place of employment, and took her into custody. She admitted to killing the babies during questioning.

Lowe told authorities she believes she became pregnant during the early part of January. Both babies were born full term, each weighing between five and six pounds.

Lowe told police she did not tell anyone she was pregnant, including her parents.
In addition, she reported she did not see a doctor once during the term of her pregnancy, according to the affidavit.

Neighbors told Nashville's News 2 Lowe never mentioned that she was pregnant but at least one thought she might be.

"I didn't really know but it was kind of obvious because I've got a five-month-old so I remember what I looked like when I was pregnant," neighbor Ashley Smith said. "It showed to me, but I wasn't going to go up and ask her, ‘how far along are you?' or anything like that."

Hendersonville police Lt. Scott Ryan told Nashville's News 2 the crime is one he has never encountered in his 17 years on the force.

When asked about Lowe's demeanor, he replied, "She was very sad the last time I say her, very, very sad."

Lowe attended Western Kentucky University where she studied interior design and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She graduated in 2008.
She is a 2004 graduate of Goodpasture Christian School in Madison. She has more than 700 friends on her Facebook page, and lists the Bible as one of her favorite books.

Lowe is charged with two counts of first degree murder. She was booked into the Sumner County jail where she is being held without bond.
She has no other children and no prior arrest record.

Detectives did not immediately release the identity of the victims' father.
Police said there is no evidence to suggest anyone but Lowe was involved in the newborns' deaths.

Lowe is scheduled to appear in court on September 28 at 9 a.m. She could, however, have a bond hearing as early as Friday morning.
