I'm making the thread just to tell everyone that Cliff Lee is leaving $50 million on the table to sign with the Phillies. Oh my god.

Re: MLB 2010-11 Offseason Thread

NEW YORK -- New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira has been exchanging text messages with Andy Pettitte during the offseason as Pettitte sits at home in Deer Park, Texas, deciding whether to pitch for the Yankees in 2011 or retire.
Teixeira said on Tuesday that, through his communication with Pettitte, he's gotten the sense that the veteran left-hander is "leaning toward retirement." But the Yankees first baseman is holding out hope that Pettitte will return to a Yankees rotation that sorely needs him next season.

Yankees didn't do shit in free agency so they def need Andy back, especially with how much better the Red Sox got this offseason.

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Brewers have agreed to a one-year deal with right-handed relief pitcher Takashi Saito.
Saito was 2-3 with a 2.83 ERA in 56 appearances for the Atlanta Braves last season. He has a 17-13 career record with a 2.19 ERA in five major league seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston and Atlanta.
The 40-year-old native of Japan also has 84 career saves, including 81 with the Dodgers from 2006-08.
Saito, who is expected to fill the setup role for closer John Axford, joins a radically remade Brewers pitching staff.

Brewers are having one of the nest off seasons this year, and really are bringing themselves to the top of the Central when it comes to contending for the division.

Overruled! Cashman says Soriano was Hal’s idea

Really not that bad of a deal, so I don't know why Cashman wouldn't want the guy to begin with. They had a shit off season so they need all the help they can get.

The Yankees lost their first round pick in what's said to be a loaded draft, and they lost it for a guy who will be nothing more than an overpaid setup guy for the next 2 years. Cashman was careful all winter with free agency, presumably to keep that pick, and then the owners go over his head to make a panic "see? we still like spending money!!!" move. LOL @ them.

The Rays have like 7 of the first 80 picks in the draft this year. They could be back soon.
