I can see Vince seeing Heel Cena/Roman the same way as the Stinger. Remember when he said "He's a special attraction, he can't appear all the time or else he won't be special any more". Yeah no shit

But Cena draws as a heel, whenever he's positioned as such it's worked spectacularly. Fans flocked to Summerslam 2014 to watch him eat that Lesnar asswhoopin'. Rock vs Cena drew on its own because of that. Summerslam 2013, as Daniel Bryan got his big break. MITB 2011, need I say more? And even the Cena Open Challenges this year he was essentially the " heel" from a sports sense. All these things were special because of it, because Cena was the best heel of this generation... Maybe that's why they think creating a new Cena isn't the worst thing in the world, but... We'll see how that works, with a bag of pretzels nearby to sit and watch the dumpster light on fire.

They arent going to turn Roman heel is they are doing it to Cena.

His sales are at an all time low, he hasn't been active in like 8 months. Now is the time to pull the trigger for Cena if they were ever going to do it and having Roman be a face for this, it is a must.
2 months = 8 months? Last time I checked Cena went out in late December/early January, not June
As for Cena's merch sales? They are still strong. But obviously they dip when he isn't on TV. The moment big John shwos up on TV again they will rocket back up

But did anyone notice Triple H doing those crotch chops to Roman and playing to the crowd during a heel beat down? Triple H knows better than to do that under normal circumstances. He's not stupid, he knows what's up... He knows he's the babyface going into this...
Hunter knows. Hunter also knows that the fans aren't accepting of Roman as the new top face, leaning more towards Dean and Seth as the two top guys for the future (which Hunter apparently does as well). So there is a theory/argument being thrown about on among other the observer forums that Hunter and some other power players have worked towards halting/stalling Roman's push. Sadly making Roman just a pawn in the powerplay between the Hunter/Ward/Seaman and Vince/Dunn camps backstage.

To go with your point in the Smackdown thread, hasn't there been an increasing amount of the slow-burn "NXT-style" booking on the main roster?

Like the New Day, saw a few people wondering "how this crap got over in the first place", compare it to Tyler Breeze. The New Day debuted as Vince-style dancing babyfaces... then instead of just turning because they hate *insert town here* and attacked a dude and ran from a fight... Xavier kinda-accidentally cheated during a match, and realized how great it felt... so he started cheating more and more and these white-meat assclowns started getting more and more egotistical... then they added Big E's yelling during their entrance... then the loud, boisterous promos... then more chaos and timely stuff in the matches... then the trombone... then the muppets commentator voices and the booty-shaking and on and on... and the New Day combining their entertainment value with a dynamic, changing gimmick got them so mad over that we were able to forgive a lot of stagnation and even the unicorn horn idea... before overexposure got the best of them.

(I blame it on formatting, they always seem to want 25 minutes to go to one specific segment, be it a Shield six-man, a Cena open challenge, a Rollins/Authority tag... etc. With all the workhorses (sans coward heel Owens) gone, they put the New Day in that spot for 12 minutes of talking and 15 minutes of wrestling as the easiest time-killer. TWO HOUR RAWS PLEASE DAMN)

Then there's the Becky/Charlotte stuff which was a stark contrast to them throwing shit like Reid Flair against the wall, and surely more comparisons you know of...

Anyway on topic, this sounds like Hunter making a power play to retain and hold the strap until Seth comes back is more and more likely, and I'm damn fine with that.
You said during last year's Rumble that "Roman Reigns's issue is that he isn't over. Fans don't have a good reason to get behind him."
Give Roman an actual story, then he can win the title.

Okay part of the surgery Roman got was in fact legit. Anyway I feel like WWE is dropping the ball with Roman in too many ways. Bad character. The Vest, still comes out to that shield music. Roman should loose the vest and get a new theme. Then they got to give him a set straight on character, not "The Big Dog", that nickname is just shoving him down our throats. They gotta do what they did af TLC and make him just a straight on Destroyer. He's been getting better ring work, has to do less Superman Punches and Spears, that is too John Cena. WWE has to stop with having him just in the ground a lot and more doing legit shit in the ring. RN the Big Dog is Dog Shit

That wouldn't work. Ambrose has been used as Reigns' pop machine for some time, and they even had The Rock return and be at his side at last year's Royal Rumble and we know how that much that spectacularly failed in getting Roman cheered. Bryan slurping his dong and talking about how great he is after losing to him at last year's Fast Lane didn't work too well either.

Even if by some chance it got Reigns cheered, it's not gonna be a permanent fix to anything. It's gonna take a personality transplant or a complete character overhaul before the majority of people are gonna get behind him.

Coulda sworn it has been since September and he had his surgery in Dec/Jan... Which yeah that would be 5-6 months. Either way, he has been gone longer than just December.

EDIT -- This is from November so I am thinking since October he has been gone.

He was gone for November to film a show. But he did not go out with an injury until after Christmas

Yes but he has been gone since was my point. Nothing to do with the injury.

He worked all of December. He hasn't been gone much at all in late 2015.
Orton has been out since late September - mid October. Cesaro since mid November. Those guys have been gone for a long time
