This weekend Schumi Junior is getting a run out with Alfa Romeo and it's only a matter of time before he gets his own seat.

He's currently leading the Formula 2 championship with 191 points, 22 ahead of his closest rival.

The big question is. Is it going to be difficult for him to step out of legendary dad's shadow?

He certainly seems to have the talent but can he get a fair crack without constantly having to compete with the comparisons?

What I hope is that he doesn't get a permanent seat in F1 before drivers like Nyck de Vries, Luca Ghiotto and Guanyu Zhou. Those three, really have much more proven talent than Mick - but with the F2 rule of if you win you can't compete again - it will put him in strange position. He will probably be forced to join Vries in Formula-E

Do you think F1 will have any influence on him being signed to a permanent seat?

Schumi Juniors big debut = Ratings I would say.

FIA can not influence things, neither can the F1 in regards who sign for who.

I also don't think he is ready: Russel, Latifi, Albon, Norris, Vries are all much better than him as drivers. I

Can't or just shouldn't?

We all know how most Sports work these days!

I mean the team have to pay the drivers - so the team do choose.

I get that but in Football (See I said Football not Soccer), the League does have say in it.

For example the main reason Messi didn't leave Barca just now is because La Liga put up walls to prevent it from happening.

So while the say isn't final, there is ways to influence both for and against.

Only trying to see it from all angles, if Mick does get a seat before all of the Drivers you have mentioned there may be factors not totally relating to driving ability.

I doubt it will be on anything other than skill - all the money boys have proven to fail, apart from Stroll.

If Mick gives himself 2-3 years learning to race in other classifications, he would really benefit.

So due to heavy rain and fog, this never actually happened which is sad.

But from what I'm seeing he is still heavily linked with a seat with Alfa for 2021.

I disagree that Latifi and de Vries are obviously better than Schumacher.

This doesn't even matter, though, as only de Vries out of those doesn't have a seat in F1 already, and Alfa need to employ a young Ferrari driver. Giovanazzi just doesn't cutter.

They're choosing between Schumacher, Schwartzman and Illott, essentially, and out of those lot, I'd go for Schumacher too.

Also Schumacher is definitively better than Ghiotto and while Zhou is stupidly talented, he is still raw and needs at least one more year in F2. That's over and above the fact that neither are Ferrari academy drivers so aren't in consideration for Gio's spot.

So young Mick did have a role to play this weekend.

Presenting Lewis with one of his Dad's helmets to recognise him equaling his record.

Very nice touch.
