Last night, Shock Till You Drop met up with Seth Grahame-Smith about his upcoming film, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (which he penned) in St.Louis. While there, we got the latest on Beetlejuice 2, the follow-up film the writer is involved with at Warner Bros and that Tim Burton will shepherd.

Shock asked him for the latest on the project and to see how close the sequel was to becoming a reality. "It's a reality in the sense that I met with Michael Keaton last week," Grahame-Smith told us. "We talked for a couple of hours and talked about big picture stuff. It's a priority for Warner Bros. It's a priority for Tim. Right now, I am writing an animated movie for Tim based on an idea of mine. Then I adapt Unholy Night [based on the upcoming book]. The third I am hoping is Beetlejuice in terms of writing schedule."

And what was Keaton's excitement level like?

"Huge," the writer added, "he's been wanting to do it for 20 years and he'll talk to anybody about it who will listen. I really told him, I have a huge reverence for Tim and a huge reverence for that film in general. I don't think we should do it if we shit on the legacy. He agrees. So, right now, it remains to be seen, I have a couple of story ideas, but we're very early out."

Who's ready to see Keaton back at Beetlejuice?!

I would watch this just as long as the movie is as good as the first one and Keaton does sign up for it. No Keaton no Movie.

It is awesome that Keaton wants to be back so they better figure out a way to make that happen. And for god sakes, make it good.

I don't want a sequel for sequel sakes. Just like Ghostbusters 3. I want them both to be made I just want them to be good.

Seth Graham Smith is pretty good so I have a feeling this will be a worthy sequel

I am so split on this. If they get Keaton involved, and hopefully the rest of the cast too, along with a new cast it could be great. The issue I have is... Tim Burton hasn't made a good movie in almost ten years and if he's making a sequel to one of his best, it's gotta be damn good.

Aside from Alice in Wonderland and his version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I can't think of any Burton film that I'd consider dogshit.

Big Fish was fantastic, actually one of my favorite Burton movies, but that was made in 2003, so that's why I said almost ten years.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Planet of the Apes, that was utter trash. I liked the others though.

One thing I think about Burton is that he's definitely overrated by a lot of people, mostly fanboys. I enjoy almost all of his films, but that doesn't mean I think he's a great director or anything. While he's done a lot of entertaining pieces, I'd say Ed Wood and Big Fish are the only truly great works he's made. That's not taking anything away from Beetlejuice or the first two Batman films mind you, I just don't put them on the same level as those other two.

Pee Wee's Big Adventure is probably my single-favourite Burton film, I love everything about it. I agree that Nightmare is horribly overrated.
