UPDATE: THE "unexplained" death of Greg Ham, a member of former internationally chart-busting Aussie band Men at Work, found by friends at his Carlton home is being investigated by homicide police.

Ham's body was found at his home in Canning St, Carlton, this morning.

Friends had gone to check on the performer, who had been working as a music teacher in recent years.

News of the performer's death was first tweeted this afternoon by Derryn Hinch and followed by tweets from Sydney radio station 2GB and breakfast TV shows The Today Show and Sunrise.

Detective Sen-Sgt Shane O’Connell of the homicide squad said there were a series of “unexplained issues†surrounding the death.

He said detectives were not looking for anyone in relation to the death.

Sen-Sgt O’Connell refused to discuss the dead man’s identity and could not say for how long he had been dead.

"A crime scene has been established and local CIU investigators are trying to determine the cause of death. It’s not known if it’s suspicious,’’ a police spokeswoman said.

Ham famously played the flute on the band’s biggest hit “Down Underâ€, a massive seller in both Australia and the United States.

But the song ended up costing the band heavily when a court ruled Ham’s flute work on the hit was plagiarised from the song Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree.

Hay later said he would have to sell his home to cover legal costs.

Considering the legal battle surrounding him and the band over the last few years, my first reaction was a suicide.
