Meltdown XXIII will begin with a match with major implications in the chaotic FWA tag team division, as three of the teams expected to challenge for the FWA World Tag Team Championships on Fallout 024 will join forces in this twelve-person tag team match. Namely, they are Bad Reputation, The Coven, and The Lumberjacks, all of whom share grievances against Cthulhu's Nephews from Meltdown XXII. A group of the Nephews descended on the ring after Bad Reputation's loss to The Coven, and Uncle was involved again in the climax of The Connection's victory over The Lumberjacks. MvH and Gerald Grayson are the only team confirmed for that tag team Mile High Massacre match on 024, being the current division champions, but von Horrowitz will have to do without her tag team partner, as Grayson has been excluded from this match-up by Jon Russnow so that he can focus on his F1 obligations.
On the last Meltdown, The Wildcard made it clear that he was not happy with how feels he’s been treated in the company as of late. In his words he feels disrespected and he made sure his voice was heard. He’ll be in his first match since Lights Out, and he’ll be taking on newcomer MDC, who is still looking for his first win in FWA. MDC suffered defeat on the last Meltdown at the hands of Shawn Summers, and now he’ll have his hands full again as he’s tested against another FWA veteran in Jason Randall.
Meltdown XXIII rolls on with its only F1 Climaxxx tournament match-up, as two competitors who are currently winless in Pool B look to set themselves upon the right path and pick up their first points of the competition. Grayson was unsuccessful against Bryan Baxter and then Chris Peacock, whilst PAJ has been bested by Lizzie Rose and Cyrus Truth, making this encounter all the more important, with the loser all-but eliminated from the F1 as we pass the half-way stage. Phillip A. Jackson also has his FWA Television Champion to worry about, as he prepares to defend it in Fallout 023's main event only forty eight hours after this show-down, whilst the Cleanser will also need to keep one eye out for Shawn Summers, who still claims rightful ownership of PAJ's title. Grayson, meanwhile, has nothing but this match-up to focus on, which may prove crucial in that hunt for points in the F1.
The man known as “The Dark Traveler”, Darius Wright, will make his FWA in-ring debut. Wright is no stranger to the wrestling ring, having dominated in various other organizations but now he’s in the FWA. Wright takes on fan favorite XYZ, who will be looking to bounce back after a tough loss on Fallout in a tag team match.
Over a year ago, Alyster Black won the FWA X Championship, and since then he’s been an unstoppable champion, and defeating anyone that has stepped in his way and threatened to take the gold from him. The man that Alyster defeated for the title is the same man he’ll be facing again. It was over a year ago when Nate Savage lost the X Championship to Alyster Black, and now he has a chance at redemption and reclaiming the title he feels like he should have never lost. Savage earned this chance at redemption after winning a briefcase at Lights Out in the secular spooktacular match. Alyster Black has been riding a wave of momentum after capturing the FWA World Championship in a battle royal, but Nate Savage would love nothing more than to rain on Alyster’s parade and take back the X Championship.

Fallout 023 gets underway with a match-up between two competitors who have never shared a ring before in the FWA, despite making their debuts in relatively close proximity and rising through the ranks of the promotion together. Alyster Black won their only match-up elsewhere, when the two competed in the CWA's Gold Rush competition (which had a format mirrored by the F1 Climaxxx), though both were already eliminated from contention by the time they tied up. A lot has changed since then, with both now able to call themselves FWA World Champions, and Alyster Black finally completing his path to that accolade last week on XXII. Alyster has already completed since winning that prize, defeating Vampyra to record his second win in Pool A. MvH is also undefeated in the tournament, having bested Gabrielle in Koln in her first match of proceedings. She will be looking to overcome the newly crowned champion and join him on four points at the top of the pool.
The two men who are currently undefeated in Pool B will face off in Austria, and someone's 0 has got to go. Golden Opportunity briefcase holder Chris Peacock has raced to a 2-0 record with impressive wins over Cyrus Truth and Gerald Grayson, and also put in an impressive showing in the FWA World Championship battle royale, in which he placed second. Baxter has also been in form, with wins over Grayson and also Lizzie Rose in Koln, in a main event match that also saw Bryan capture his first taste of gold in the FWA in the form of the North American Championship. He has done so in perhaps acrimonious circumstances, though, which has led to the relationship between Baxter and tag team partner Jeremy Best becoming strained to say the least, which may end up being an important factor in this match-up. Peacock, meanwhile, will have one eye on Alyster Black, who competes twice this week and could be prone for a cash-in…
Shawn Summers has recorded back-to-back wins on Meltdown XX and XXI, against newcomers Preston Something and MDC, but that is not the news story involving Der Basterd that has been making headlines recently. It has been his one-man crusade against the FWA involving several athletic commissions, regarding his loss to Phillip A. Jackson at the recent Lights Out pay-per-view… a loss he says was unlawful. This crusade continues in Vienna as Summers prepares to take on Joey Ortiz, as the man more used to officiating FWA matches now gets ready to compete in one. It was, of course, Ortiz who counted the three at Lights Out, something that has led to Summers' demands for this match in hopes of retribution.
Lizzie Rose had a bad week when the FWA rolled through Rotterdam and Koln, with The Rave first coming close in the world championship battle royale (where she placed fifth), before losing her North American Championship to Bryan Baxter in Fallout 022's main event. That match also counted in the F1 Climaxxx, meaning Rose currently has a 1-1 record in Pool B of the tournament… a record that is matched by her opponent in week three, 'The Exile' Cyrus Truth. Truth lost in his first outing against Chris Peacock, before bouncing back with an important win over Phillip A. Jackson in Koln. Truth also tasted disappointment in that battle royale, where he finished one position ahead of Lizzie Rose in fourth. Both Truth and Rose will be looking at the F1 as a pathway back into contention for the biggest prize in professional wrestling, and a win here in Vienna will keep their fate in their own hands as we move into the tournament's later stages.
Blood will be sucked, mankinis will be worn, techno will be played, Sacha Baron Cohen will be plagiarized… the ongoing rivalry between Ratin Makitchin and Steve the Techno Vampire, and - after the Kazakh anti-sensation came up with the win over the Techno Jobber last week on Fallout 022 - the score is now evened up at one win apiece. Cuethe rubber match that nobody expected… that nobody thought they wanted (which will soon be a feeling validated)... Ratin vs. Steve, Part III.
Tommy Bedlam will be relatively well-rested this week as he prepares to continue his F1 campaign following a bye week. He was the only competitor in the tournament not to compete in Koln on Fallout 022, instead dedicating his attention to the battle royale on Meltdown forty eight hours before. Bedlam has one match and one win in the tournament, coming against Vampyra back on 022 in Christiana. He comes up against a Gabrielle looking to keep her F1 hopes alive. She inherited Mike Parr's week one loss to Alyster Black when she replaced him after his withdrawal, and then lost a hard fought match against MvH just inside the time limit in Koln. Montgomery will need to win here in Vienna to have a chance of progressing to the knockout stages, whilst Tommy Bedlam looks to keep frontrunner Alyster Black in his sights as we approach the climactic weeks of the pool stages.
Vampyra earned a shot at the FWA Television Championship at the Lights Out pay-per-view, where she claimed a prize during the Secular Spooktacular. Meanwhile, Phillip A. Jackson was busy dethroning Shawn Summers on the very same night… an outcome still contested by Der Basterd, who is embroiled in an ongoing dispute against the FWA over ownership of the title. The show must go on, though, and despite Summers' protestations this contest will go ahead and the gold will be on the line. Vampyra came into the FWA with a lot of momentum thanks to her win in the Spooktacular and then against Sawyer Xavier, though back-to-back losses in the F1 Climaxxx have curtailed that somewhat. The same is true of PAJ, who has so far recorded the same record, albeit in Pool B. Both will be hoping that a win in this Fallout 023 main event can right the ship and also give them confidence in the ongoing tournament.
