Matt Hamill (10-4 MMA, 9-4 UFC) is coming out of retirement.
The former light-heavyweight contender will return to the cage for the first time in 13 months when he meets Canadian UFC newcomer Roger Hollett (13-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) at UFC 152 in Toronto.
Hollet's reps at KO Dynasty confirmed the bout and the fighter's new four-fight deal with MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com). Yahoo! Sports initially reported the matchup.
UFC 152 takes place Sept. 22 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The event's main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.
It's not clear where Hamill vs. Hollett will be placed on the lineup.
Hamill, who was born deaf but went on to win three NCAA Division III national wrestling championships, retired from MMA following back-to-back losses Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Alexander Gustafsson in 2011. Prior to the skid, "The Ultimate Fighter 3" cast member had won five straight fights, which included a controversial disqualification victory over now-champ Jon Jones at the TUF 10 Finale in 2009. It remains the only loss of Jones' career.
He now meets Hollett, an MFC and Bellator vet who's won five straight fights. The six-year pro, who's the son of former Canadian boxing and kickboxing champion Ralph Hollett, was expected to compete in an upcoming Bellator tournament after recently earning a split-decision victory over John Hawk at Bellator 57.
Wasn't expecting to hear about this, pretty cool though. I'm a Hammill fan.
