Up to that point in his career, I'd say that the Shawn Michaels feud was the second biggest of Undertaker's career behind Mankind. Jeff Jarrett's gimmick was bringing back the NWA. Him, Jim Cornette, Rock & Roll Express, and Dan Severn were apart of an NWA faction and no one cared. How many times did random heels come out and attack Undertaker during or right after a match. There was the Royal Rumble Casket Match with Yokozuna in which guys including Jeff Jarrett, Great Kabuki, and Genichiru Tenryu interfered. Then there was the Survivor Series Casket Match with Yokozuna in which IRS and Bam Bam Bigelow interfered, the Buried Alive Match in which Crush, Triple H, and the mysterious Executioner interfered, and now this Casket Match which Los Boricuas and New Age Outlaws get involved.

About Jarrett, that's what the gimmick turned into since he was directionless when he came in, but it wasn't that at this point (wait about 3 weeks). The NWA deal was also a bone for Cornette as he was losing all kinds of booking power to Russo backstage and that was to placate him.
