On Mark Henry's promo, during the 6/25 Smackdown, the word "ass" was used. It was not censored, and it was in a promo, which means WWE reviewed it and accepted it.

The link to the video on wwe.com is below (skip to 2:25):

This is pretty interesting. Is WWE slowly loosening its restrictions on promo's and speech?

EDIT: I see words like these don't go past the PG mark. Okay.

In case you're wondering, I don't want to see TV-14. No way. I want to see more freedom in promo's.

Didn't really see it as a big deal.

In his song done by Three Six Mafia they say the word Ass about 50 times between the time the music hits and he hits the ring.

It's not like anyone else from the New Era can get away with this right now or has in recent memory. Although it seemed for a while leading up to WM like they were allowing a lot more like this to happen, but that was probably just due to the fact it was the RTWM.

Ass is said in the bible, hardly a word that should be classified as a bad one.

Or any word for that matter, but thats neither here nor there. Seems like someones really reaching for a glimmer of hope that WWE gets away from the PG. And to that I ask why?

What was so better at TV-14 than it is now? Women getting beating on by men? Chicks in thongs? All around misogyny that gave off the impression that wrestling fans hated women? Or was it just the use of borderline cursewords like "Bitch".

I don't see any difference tbh. Maybe somepeople are not blading anymore, but really. Blading is fucking stupid and if they wanted some blood in a match, do it the hard way.

Mannn talk about reaching into a barrel of monkeys... I don't think that is the right analogy. Ummmm... grasping at air hoping to find something solid? Yeah that sounds a little better... but anyways... as The Miz would say.

Really? Really? Really?

WWE is NOT leaving the PG era anytime soon. Their use of the word ass... I mean really tell me what shows doesn't use that word? What PG movies do not use that word? Hell what G movies do not use that word?

Yeah the Attitude era was good but IT'S NOT COMING BACK! We are in the PG era and we are sticking to that era for a long time. And yeah at times it sucks but so does every era out there. Every era there ever was had some suck times during it. No era was perfect. Maybe more entertaining than others but goodness... it is time to really just let it go. Please.

The truth (ugly or not) is that the words like "ass" and "bitch" generate huge pops if used right. Profanity in general generates pops if used right because of the words' strength. Stars used words like these to spice up their gimmick and character on TV. Half of the Rock's speech is built on the words "ass" and "bitch," and he generated big time pops with stuff like this. These are strength words.

PROMO INSULTS:
Insults are huge in the business, and what insults don't accept profanity? Profanity, if used right, will always enhance the reaction during an insult.
There's really a difference between me saying "I'm about to get you outta here," and saying "I'm about to put your ass through a table." The possible, and even probable during times like the Attitude Era, reaction would be much louder in the second version of this saying. It is weird, but that is what many quick promo pops were built off during those times.

These things added to personality, and the pops added to the overall superstar popularity. The point is - during the Attitude Era, these words were used a lot by people like the Rock and Stone Cold, and the pops were phenomenal.

Listen through popular promos back in the day. Many non-PG insults are used, and they do work very well.

However, maybe WWE doesn't have the talent that can use these words to generate heat or pops. Maybe WWE doesn't have these power speakers, who can use normal everyday use words to generate such a reaction. Or maybe WWE does not want to head in this direction.
What do you think?

"Ass" is PG? Wow, didn't even know. Then we're set; well, not before I choke your ass through a monitor right now.

This is a bit of a none story really. As for the PG debate, well if I had a chance I would prefer WWE not to use it, because there is only so much you can get over without a spot of blood, or engery material from time to time, on the other hand if the product is booked and preformed effectivly, then anything can get over. The truth is the content should be somewhere in the middle of the extremes mentioned, but the basics of Wrestling don't really change, no matter the era.

Nothing major here the word isn't going to offend many people and most won't even catch on that he said it. As for PG I don't see much difference at all in the product except we have less overtly sexual storylines, less swearing and less blood. Not sure how any of those items make a product better, blading is just stupid and anyone that wants to bleed in a wrestling ring has something wrong upstairs, so dangerous you don't know what you can catch.

But by saying that Troy you are writing off a major part of wrestling history. Because when you have a big time feud between two guys or girls who are supposed to hate each and would do anything to destroy the other then so where along the line you need blood. I am not saying you need a lot, but if you have a no holds barred or cage match and it is the big blow off to the feud, then blood makes sense. Like a high spot blood is effective it is used at the right time, following a slow build up, or if it just a full on street fight, then produce it early, but keep the match short.

I agree it is odd not seeing blood in a match like HIAC or a big weapons brawl but if it means the wrestlers aren't blading I don't mind it. One of the most iconic WM moments, Austin passing out in the Sharpshooter, does look better with the blood but I just don't like the idea of open wounds in a wrestling ring.

Well, a superstar agreeing to participate in a the Hell in a Cell match against someone else would also mean there's something wrong with their head; we know the brutality of this stipulation.

I think blading is sometimes effective.

I don't think Stone Cold would receive the reaction he got during his Wrestlemania 13 match with Bret Hart if he wasn't bleeding.

People don't have to blade as much as Ric Flair, but I think blood should be involved at least in matches like Hell in a Cell. I mean damn, the 2010 Hell in a Cell matches were the only ones that didn't involve blood at all. That's watering down the quality and the infamy of this stipulation; people now consider Hell in a Cell match to be the same as the Steel Cage match.

Also it does add realism because if people are involved in any kind of fight related sport, then the law of avenges says there will be blood some where along the line.

Law of averages also dictate that blood only belongs in hard hitting matches.

Also the fact that blading could only help spread hepatitis and staph infection. Steve Austin bladed the most in 98 and had to get hooked up to IVs because he contacted terrible staph infection from the other people blading on the shows. Wrestlers are lucky no one has contacted hepatitis C or worse HIV from blood contact.

This is why blading is stupid.

But if you apply the less is more rule to it, than it reduces the risk, the fact is there is only so much you can get across without blading at some point.

Technically, they can test their blood before planning for them to blade. Blading can happen as many as only 2-4 times a year, doesn't matter. I just think gory matches should be at least bloody (doesn't have to be pools of blood).

Less is more, than get rid of it altogether. It doesn't add to the realism, it just says someone bladed. You want to add realism, you have to have the ref stop the match to get a look at the cut and see if it isn't imparing the wrestlers eyesight. Keep wiping the blood away periodically. Not just having someone look around with blood on their face. That just screams phony, take a page out of MMA. Make it look like a big deal and it will be a big deal. Cuts can stop a fight, maybe cuts could stop a wrestling match.

I believe WWE were trying that and the forums started crying about PG this and kiddish that and bitched about it not being the Attitude Era.
