The Toronto Maple Leafs are joining other NHL teams and clubs in other sports in beginning a dynamic pricing policy for tickets to their games, based on the opponent and when it’s being played.

The prices will be divided into five different categories: Super Premium, Premium Plus, Premium, Regular and Preseason.

For instance, a seat in the “greenâ€￾ price point could range from $90 (Regular) to $125 (Super Premium) depending on who the Leafs play.

The Toronto Raptors have had a dynamic pricing policy for two seasons with games against the L.A. Lakers costing a lot more than games against the Charlotte Bobcats for the same seats.
They already have the highest ticket prices in the NHL and now they're going to be charging even more. It doesn't really affect me because I normally only go with clients who have corporate tickets, but for the average fan this is a kick in the fucking balls. Not to mention the Leafs haven't won anything since 1967 AND they're the only team in the NHL to crack Forbes list of wealthiest sports franchises. They absolutely do NOT need to be charging people more to see their half-ass product out on the ice. I think the only way to put a stop to this is for people to stop going, but since every game is a sell-out I don't see that happening any time soon.

I'll bet you any money the only reason they're charging people more is because the leafs ended up going to the playoffs this year and they knew how much they packed Yonge St. square this year.

This has been done for years in England. We have Category A, Category B and Category C. It's an ok method I suppose.

This is partially correct. I was just talking to a buddy of mine who's on the inside of the situation and he said that the playoff "run" this year was one reason they felt they could pull it off. However, this has actually been in the planning stages since they found out Detroit was moving back into their division, as they could guarantee higher ticket prices for those games. Regardless, a lot of people out on the street are complaining about it (on CP 24 at least) but it won't change anything.

It's been done in several sports for years over here as well, the article even mentions that the Raptors do it, and the Blue Jays do as well. The difference is that those two teams don't charge upwards of $100 for their LOWEST priced ticket. In fact, no NHL hockey team does, so its kind of absurd that only one team in the entire league (and not one of the better ones at that) is doing it when they're already charging so much to begin with.
