For years whenever a niche fanatic wants one of their favorites to get pushed, and someone rightfully points out that they shouldn’t due to a lack of mic skills, they suggest that they could give them a manager to hide this.

This has never ever worked.

People cite Bobby The Brain Heenan as an example, yet every major draw he managed could talk on the mic:

-Rick Rude
-Mr.Perfect
-Ric Flair
-Andre the Giant
-King Kong Bundy
-Paul Orndorff

If someone couldn’t talk on the mic, like Ken Patera, Bobby Heenan couldn’t help them.

Same deal with Paul Heyman, he has mic skills, yet never ever got anyone who didn’t have mic skills over.

-Brock Lesnar first run 2002-2004 wasn’t a major draw, ratings declined with him as FOTC, didn’t become a draw until 2002, WWE actually improved upon his departure with rise of Cena & Batista.

-Curtis Axel, Paul talking didn’t change his lack of mic skills didn’t get over.

-Cesaro, Paul talking didnt change his lack of mic skills didn’t get over.

Having a specific manager is supposed to add the to specific character or storyline, it’s not intended to be used to hide the fact that a performer lacks mic skill/talent.

Do you have numbers to support Cena and Batista sold more houses out and got more PPV buys than Lesnar?

Indeed,

YearT
95-96 $85,815,000 $3,319,000
96-97 $81,863,000 $6,505,000 - Austin becomes most popular guy on show during this time, minor bump.
97-98 $126,231,000 $8,466,000
98-99 $251,474,000 $56,030,000 - Rock becomes most popular guy and takes over from Austin as top draw, massive jump.
99-00 $373,100,000 $68,937,000 - Rock
00-01 $456,043,000 $15,987,000* XFL - Rock
01-02 $409,622,000 $42,233,000 - Rock part time
02-03 $374,264,000 -$19,455,000 = Rock leaves, Lesnar becomes top guy, turns face, record loss.**
03-04 $374,909,000 $48,192,000 = Goldberg debuts, Lesnar turns heel after failing to draw.
04-05 $366,431,000 $39,147,000 - Goldberg leaves and another guy much like Lesnar who doesn’t draw takes over in JBL, while Cena & Batista on rise.
05-06 $400,051,000 $47,047,000 - Cena, BBatista, Edge push
’06 $262,937,000 $31,617,000 -Batista injured, Edge momentum stopped.
’07 $485,700,000 $52,137,000 - Batista returns.

NOTE:
* Wrestling profit was $84,981,000, but WWE’s share of the 50% of the XFL losses (the other 50% was covered by NBC) was $68,994,000, thus Rock broke his own 99-00 record during the 00-01 financial year.

**Wrestling profit was $16,362,000; offset by losses of $35,557,000 through operation and closing of The World Restaurant. Still massive decline with Lesnar.

WWE were struggling with Lesnar & Triple H on top, they were struggling to sell tickets to events between September 2002 and December 2004. 1,600 for a houseshow in Uniondale NY (same venue Summerslam 2002 sold out 4 months earlier).

That Batista storyline did wonders for WWE, WWE’s mini post Lesnar revival peaked in January 2006 with Edge sex celebration with a 5.2t

Brock Lesnar is a major draw and has no mic skills.

UFC, prior to that he wasn’t a draw.
yes but he is an example of a guy that had no mic skills but was aided dramatically by a manager

he wouldn't have had the success he has in WWE without Heyman

Cornette got Bobby Eaton to earn 6 figures for a few years with his doughy body and buggy whip arms.

Just because someone can talk doesn’t mean that a manager doesn’t help them. Managers are not around solely to get shitty wrestlers over. The wrestler usually is quite skilled and the manager enhances them. Yeah if a wrestler is complete trash then a manager isn’t gonna help them. Brock Lesnar was great and Heyman was the missing piece.
