A MAN has been hit with a $4000 fine for saying there was a bomb on a Cairns-bound plane so fellow passengers would "move a little quicker".
Cairns man Noel Marama, 26, was on a Jetstar plane from Brisbane when he started to get impatient about the time it was taking to disembark at Cairns airport, The Cairns Post reports.

He became aggressive and said to nearby passengers “there is a bomb on the planeâ€.

Mr Marama pleaded guilty to the federal charge of making a threat and false statement.

Commonwealth prosecutor Greg Williams said a Jetstar employee was approached by six passengers concerned about Marama’s behaviour.

Mr Williams said Federal Police interviewed the defendant at the airport and he admitted the allegations against him were true.

“I just said that there was a bomb on the plane,†Marama told police, according to Mr Williams.

“I said about the bomb to make them get off faster.â€

Defence solicitor Richard O’Shane said Marama’s statement was intended as a joke.

“He simply said those words to get the passengers to move a little quicker,†he said.

Magistrate Allan Comans said Marama’s actions were “completely irresponsibleâ€.

“People panic, and they panic for good reason in this day and age,†he said.

He fined the defendant $4000 and recorded a conviction.

Hilarious but fair punishment for him. Nice idea to get people to move off the plane quicker but obviously saying there is a bomb will cause some people to freak out. The guy just needs some more patience and he will learn to be patient now after getting a $4000 fine.

Wow, this man is either stupid, stupid or stupid. It is a bit funny but this sort of thing just isn't funny to other people. After 9/11 many people are freaked out about flying and him doing that is really stupid. $4000 is a good amount but he could of just done a massive fart and he would of got out quicker.

It doesn't even take that long to get off those domestic carriers. They don't have that many people on board and even if there is only one door open it will take a maximum of ten minutes which really isn't that bad. If he had been prepared and stood up as soon as they are allowed then he would have been off much quicker.

Maybe there might of been a small child or a disabled person or maybe a disabled child that would of taken a bit more time but you fly econimy class you get the wait. As you said it won't take that long but some people just think that there the bee's knees and they should be at the begging of the line for these things.

There aren't too many details so there could have been sometime holding up the queue, even an elderly person who is obviously going to take longer. If this guy was so worried about time he shouldn't have flown on one of the cut-price airlines :p If he was with one of the bigger airlines and paid a bit more for his flight it may have been quicker.

I've went through this before a lot, that's why it's a good thing to get the seats in the front of the plane. It's a funny thing he did, but I would never go this far lol. Being Impatient isn't worth being fined money IMO.
