GOLDEN, Colo. -- A jury has convicted a man who walked into a Central City casino, stole $28,000 at gunpoint and later tried to shoot at a police officer.

Randy Steven Keesee, 45, was found guilty of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer, aggravated robbery, reckless endangerment and several other charges.

Prosecutors said Keesee went into the Famous Bonanza Casino in Central City on April 3, 2010, wielding a semiautomatic handgun.

Keesee stole $28,000 from the cashier and got away, prosecutors said.Ninety minutes later, the suspected getaway vehicle was spotted in the parking garage at Golden Gate Casino in Black Hawk.

When an officer spotted Keese, he said he ordered the man to stop.

Keesee shot at the officer, but Keesee's gun malfunctioned, so the officer wasn't hurt, prosecutors said.

The officer fired back, injuring Keesee. Keesee was treated then charged when he was released from the hospital.

Keesee will be sentenced in March. If convicted of the habitual criminal counts at sentencing, he faces a mandatory 94 years in prison.

It just isn't worth it. For $28,000 he will now spend die in jail, not the best return there.
