MLW STREAMING DEAL UPDATE AND MORE NOTES

Major League Wrestling has closed a deal with a streaming service, PWInsider.com has confirmed. We are told that an official announcement will come close to the end of the summer. The deal is why MLW have been removing episodes of Fusion TV from their YouTube channel as the content will be exclusively available there. Sources in the company have indicated the deal is a "big one" for the promotion.

The announced Fusion: ALPHA mini-series will be presented as a prequel that bridges all the current MLW storylines through to the season premiere of the company's new programming this fall.

There is talk of a separate Azteca Underground series being launched.

As announced overnight, Marshall and Ross Von Erich challenged Tom Lawlor's Team Filthy to a War Chamber (Wargames) bout on the 9/11 return to Dallas, Texas. This would be a way to do a full circle as their feud started bsack at the War Chamber in 2019 when Lawlor was jealous of the Von Erichs getting attention from their fans when they defeated CONTRA.

Stephen DeAngelis is in full-time as the promotion's ring announcer going forward.

MLW has moved the location of its November television tapings.

It was announced today that MLW's Saturday, November 6 TV tapings will now take place at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The event was previously set to be held at Cicero Stadium in Cicero, Illinois. Refunds for those who bought tickets to the Cicero show have been issued by Eventbrite or are available at the point of purchase.

MLW's Battle Riot tapings were held at the 2300 Arena last month. MLW will also be at the 2300 Arena for a set of TV tapings on Saturday, October 2.

Tickets for the November 6 tapings will go on sale online and at the 2300 Arena box office when MLW returns to the venue on October 2.

MLW will also be taping TV at the NYTEX Sports Centre in North Richland Hills, Texas on Saturday, September 11. That same night, there will be tapings for MLW's Azteca Underground concept in Tijuana, Mexico. MLW is working with The Crash Lucha Libre for those Tijuana tapings.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that MLW has closed a new streaming deal that is expected to be announced next week. Meltzer also wrote about the Azteca Underground tapings:

The Crash and MLW are working together for a 9/11 show in Tijuana which would be a taping for the Azteca Underground concept MLW is doing. This will be the first show back for The Crash, and it also confirms rumors going back a few months that Konnan and The Crash have made up and would be working together, since Azteca Underground is something Konnan is heavily involved with. Konnan was booking The Crash through 2017 when he was fired because they thought he was jumping to AAA. He said he’d opened up talks to get talent from AAA to appear. He did end up back booking AAA, to a degree. Dorian Roldan is in charge but he works with Roldan
What’s notable is that MLW is also doing television tapings in Dallas that night, so its regular roster won’t be at the show, but likely its Mexican roster will work Tijuana, headed by people like L.A. Park, his sons, King Muertes, Luis Fernandez-Gil (former Dario Cueto, now Cesar Duran as the authority figure) and the hopes were to sign as many people as possible who were part of Lucha Underground. The Crash had advertised Andrade for its first show back. The Dallas show will feature a Team Filthy vs. Von Erichs showdown in a War Chamber, which is the name they use for their War Games remake. It’s a cage over one ring instead of two, with barbed wire on the top of the cage.

TLDR: November tapings in Illinois are moved to Philly, MLW taping two shows Next month in Dallas and Mexico with Mexico tapings being Azteca Underground and involving CRASH.

MLW announced the following:

Plans for the 2021 Opera Cup are underway.

MLW.com has learned MLW is in talks with various arenas to host the 2021 edition of the prestigious tournament. Sources have shared that cities under consideration, include: Boston, Philadelphia, New York and Los Angeles.

While MLW’s events department engages some of wrestling’s greatest hotbeds, MLW.com can confirm the office of wrestling operations is in talks for the tournament to feature some new albeit familiar faces. Who is in the mix? League officials are mum on the particulars but more details are expected to be shared in the weeks and months ahead.

Held annually for nearly 50 years at various turn-of-the-century opera house locations from New York City to Boston, the Professional Wrestling Opera House Cup was a grueling multi-day tournament.

The best of the day competed in the tournament and would often be an entree to more success, including the World Heavyweight Championship of the day.

After a 71 year hiatus, the Opera Cup returned in 2019. Soon thereafter, the league confirmed the “classic” would be an annual tournament hosted exclusively by MLW.

Inspired by the legends whose names are immortalized in plaques on the sides of the cup, including: George Hackenschmidt, Stu Hart, Leo Pardello, William Muldoon and Waldek Zbyszko, “the classic” has returned to reignite the spirit of the greats who preceded today and tomorrow’s greats.

Over the summer of 2019, Major League Wrestling entrusted the same craftsmen who have worked with the NHL on maintaining the Stanley Cup to complete the restoration process of the original cup in time for the return of the tournament.

The Professional Wrestling Opera Cup is dedicated to the great men who have fought valiantly before us to ensure our passion, professional wrestling be cemented and respected in the annals of time.

At this point - I don't understand why they haven't been putting out a weekly show again. Literally active through the depths of the lockdown and no silence - and emptiness. Not even aired anything but the BR3.

Yeah they've went pretty dark about it too, still supposed to have tapings next month or so in Dallas near me but the Battle Riot tapings have aired yet other than the match of course
