Tbh I'm probably gonna stick to vanilla games from now on because they appear to get the most fun from folks, though I'll spice it up somewhat with a few more town roles and some scum roles.

Very few of them, most people are VT and town could also have like a doctor and a cop, scum doesn't have any crazy roles either. I think Barry's last one also includes a serial killer for balance? Idr

yeah i think it was cop, doctor serial killer gf and thats it ?

The games I played irl had town doc, town cop, and all the mafia were goons. No GF or anything but outing the cop was such a bad thing for town that having that misdirection wasn't needed

its a lot less complex role wise, more about whos seems scummy

It's def harder for me bc there's less hard info to get down on paper so you 100% have to rely on reading people more than games with a lot of roles. Would be a more "pure" way to play tho

The most typical vanilla setup is town cop and doctor.

Mafia have a godfather and a roleblocker.

Sometimes a serial killer, but most don’t.

Playing without a godfather would be rough.

But agreed on outing the cop. Mafia irl you don’t ever claim a role. I’ve seen games where the cop waiting until he knew for sure he was getting lynched before ever coming out. Cops are supposed to subtly move the town to a scum without saying they caught them.

It’s quite fun.
