Cody is top tier why AEW fans turned on him I wont know this guy just put his heart and soul out there for you.

Didn't they feel like he was booking himself too strong?

I'm sure some fans said that but I think most of the hate came from his specific angles just not being entertaining and the rumors saying he had a hand in all of them lol Cody wasn't really booked all that strong overall so that'd def not be a fair complaint

He was in multiple bad feuds where he came across pretty poorly and he eventually became something the AEW fanbase no longer wanted and he refused to adjust accordingly

It started with the Ogogo feud and his infamous promo really tho, then he went straight to feuding with Malakai Black who was def gonna get cheers being a recently debuted guy, plus Cody seemed like he was playing into it with all of his "I'm never turning heel comments" that were apparently very true instead

What it boils down to is that Cody tried in AEW but he bit off more then he could chew being an EVP and his booking suffered cuz he really just wasn’t a fit with what they became. He came back to the E as just an entertainer and in doing so was able to shine as what he wanted to be in AEW. It’s no one’s fault it’s just what worked and what didn’t.
