A show on July 4th should have set a record low for Raw, but shockingly strong first two hours kept that from happening, but one of the bigger third hour drops in history took the final number down.
Raw actually beat its Memorial Day Monday number in total viewers and in total viewers beat the July 5th Raw from last year, which would be a shock. Previous July 4th Raws have set record lows at the time for the show, and going in this was a number that nobody was going to take seriously, nor should they as far as a pattern. If anything, it showed the strength of the Raw audience in the first two hours.
Raw averaged 1.56 million viewers overall and drew a 0.37 rating in 18-49.
Those numbers were way down from the Cena Raw last week, down 20 percent in viewers, down 31 percent in 18-49, and down 35 percent in 18-34.
The 18-34 number, particularly with women, was shockingly high in the first two hours, but there were huge drops in hour three.
Television viewing was way down, as only two other shows, The Hot Dog Eating Contest (0.23) and Wimbledon Tennis (0.21) cracked the 0.20 mark on cable.
Raw beat all but four shows on network television (the Macy's July 4th parade fireworks show on NBC and a rerun of that show, and two prime time shows on Univision).
But there was an incredible turn-off factor. The second to third hour drop was, by percentage, the largest in the history of the show. The third hour was the least viewers for an hour of Raw ever on the USA Network.
Raw was first in every key demo on cable by a huge margin. It was eighth in total viewers behind seven news shows.
As compared to the episode on July 5th last year, a far better day to draw, Raw was up six percent in viewers, down 10 percent in 18-49, and up four percent in 18-34. Factoring in homes lost, the realistic change is a 13 percent gain in viewers, a five percent loss in 18-49, and a 10 percent gain in 18-34.
Miz & Mrs, hurt by the big third hour decline of Raw, did 483,000 viewers and an 0.14, finishing 13th for the night but winning its time slot handily.
Raw's third-hour declines were 26 percent for women 18-49, 19 percent for men 18-49, 39 percent for women 12-34, 27 percent for men 12-34, and 20 percent for people over 50.
The three hours were:
- 8 p.m. 1.70 million viewers
- 9 p.m. 1.66 million viewers
- 10 p.m. 1.33 million viewers
