I'd argue that the rematch part is kinda moot. People still get them sure, but they are no longer entitled to them. Not saying he doesn't deserve it, or anything. But people arent just owed a rematch anymore.

Automatic rematch yes they did officially end that.

I look at it as he earned the rematch after pinning Rollins Minions in the SummerSlam Tag Match.

I think they've actually been pretty consistent with the "no automatic rematch clause" thing too. They still do them yeah, but they give at the very least a flimsy reason why, not "guaranteed" which is so much better bc the guaranteed rematch rule made them have to find reasons not to do that when they didn't want to and those were a little more of a stretch than the current way lol

I wanna say TNA is the only company that does them now which is funny bc they copied them from WWE forever ago

That bottom part yeah I can definitely agree there. Like pinning a champions henchmen is definitely a wrestling trope to getting a title match still.

absolutely. And if you're gonna put Jey or Roman in, Jey is the one who got the pinfall while Roman didn't, Roman hasn't gotten a dub since January 6 over Solo.

Obviously Roman is Roman so he could use the excuse of I'm Roman Reigns you can put him in any title match and it is fair.

Yeah I would say I'm honestly less concerned with the reasons for title shots (especially if I like the match anyway) but it was obvious and annoying how much of a crutch the guaranteed rematch was, and extra annoying when they had other plans but still felt they needed to fit the rematch in bc it's a rule

Plus, I don’t really consider it a rematch if the person you lost the belt to isn’t still the champion. Without Gunther Jey feels ham fisted into this story.

Imo the best use of it might have been No Mercy 2007. Orton handed the title because Cena got hurt. Triple H comes out, beats him. Defends the title later again Umaga, then Orton gets his automatic rematch in the last man standing match people were promised to win the title back

the only benefit is you can just throw it away the next TV and you get yourself a Championship match on the weekly TV. However that means it's also a meaningless title match since you know who's winning.


Guaranteed title rematches are meh. A former champ getting right into a #1 contender match is more than fine if you ask me. And of course there are times where a rematch is more than fair. Long-term champions who won a ton of matches yeah they're deserving of just getting a rematch. But a guy like Jey who won in April, lost it in June he doesn't need an automatic rematch. I like that they put him in KOTR, he made it to the finals where he lost, then he got the big Dub at SummerSlam. He is a fair entrant to the match. Just like Knight (last guy to beat the Champ) and Punk (won the title and lost it cheaply) has a claim to a rematch.

My thoughts on guarantee rematches I think they should still do them, but they should happen on the TV show within a week or two of the pay-per-view and not on the following pay-per-view because I don’t want to do consistent return matches on pay-per-view again.

Fair enough, but Jey was missing on raw last week so I was just enjoying the storyline without him. In my opinion, it should be Roman considering Roman was the one who got all the tsunami’s last week.

I’ll be honest, even without Jey Uso being the one in question I don’t think pinning an underling should get you a title shot. I think you should advance you toward your goal, but not give you an automatic shot like with the chase with punk I don’t want punk to get another title shot the moment he pins one of the unders I want him to have to go through all the underlings and have to win the royal rumble and then get his singles match with Seth.

Although to be fair, I also don’t think punk should’ve been in this match either because it kind of hurts the chase if he’s given a title shot immediately but at least it’s not a single match.

All in all the main picture on raw is hella interesting. I’m hooked.
