A couple of days ago the UN Security Council passed Resolution 1973 with a 10-0 vote with 5 members abstaining. Resolution 1973 establishes a no-fly zone and the use of "all means necessary" to protect civilians within Libya. Gaddafi then claimed that Libya would accept a ceasefire but they didn't and continued to attack their own citizens.
Yesterday Coalition forces attacked Libya to enforce the no-fly zone and to prevent the government from attacking their own civilians. The US and UK launched missiles at 20 land targets which are air defense systems. France also sent their own fighter jets into Libyan air space to attack enemy forces.
This is all under the authority of the UN and completely legal plus it is simply to enfore the no-fly zone and there are no ground troops being deployed (yet).
I am glad that the international community is finally taking action after Gaddafi continued to kill many of his civilians when they disagreed with the direction the country was going.
One thing I don't like is how the international community hasn't taken responsibility for actually arming Libya and most of them were buddies with Libya less than five years ago.
Hopefully this can actually end quickly and not drag out for many many years. At least this has full UN backing and is legal.
