MMA website BloodyElbow.com is reporting that UFC champion Brock Lesnar is suffering from mononucleosis and is not expected to recover in time to fight Shane Carwin in January at UFC 108, which would be the second time that bout has been postponed. UFC had not officially announced the bout was official for the PPV.

Stay tuned for further updates.

How long do you think he'll be out for? This is some serious shit. WTF is mononucleosis anyway?

11/06 UPDATE

ESPN.com news services
Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has mononucleosis and won't be able to defend his title Jan. 2 at UFC 108 against Shane Carwin, UFC president Dana White texted to the Los Angeles Times.

The fight, originally scheduled for Nov. 21, was pushed back to January because of a Lesnar illness. Now, White says Lesnar has mononucleosis and can't train for six weeks, according to his text to the Times.

UFC officials said they hope to have Lesnar back in the octagon by March.

"Guys my manager Jason Genet just told me that UFC 108 is not happening," Carwin wrote at shane-carwin.com. "Brock has Mono and what the UFC has told me is that I have earned a title shoot [sic] but I have to wait for the title holder. I hope Brock gets well soon."

The Jan. 2 card, set for the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, also lost a scheduled bout between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort. Silva has what a UFC official to the Times was a "nagging injury."

The Nov. 21 card -- UFC 104 -- will feature Tito Ortiz against Forrest Griffin as its main event.

Lesnar hasn't fought since July at UFC 100. Carwin is undefeated through 11 pro fights, but has not competed since March

Never heard of mono? The kissing disease?

Anyway it can be pretty bad (copy/paste time) Adult symptoms of mono include an overwhelming feeling of fatigue. It can take as long as months for your energy to come back completely. An adult with mono will experience the same symptoms that a child or teenager will experience, including fever, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes and tonsils, headaches, lack of energy and loss of appetite. They may also experience jaundice, stiffness of the neck, a rapid heart rate, and shortness of breath. The major symptoms will usually last for two to four weeks, but a full recovery for an adult may take months.

I had mono when I was in JHS. It's no other type of sick...it's really fucking weird. You have absolutely no energy, no matter what food is put in front of you you'll have no desire to eat it. I don't remember getting a fever, sore throat or anything like that...just feeling completely and totally "off". I was sick for a solid week and a half but felt the effects for a lot longer. I lost a good 12 pounds in a week too.

But yeah...definitely can't fight with that shit.

The symptoms are far worse when you're an adult apparently, kinda like chicken pox.

Apparently it is also a form of herpes which I did not know. (Insert Sable joke here)

Yeah well when I had it they did a shit load of blood work on me and it never come back conclusively as mono, but they said a lot of times it doesn't even show up.
And as far as the herpes thing I think they mean more the fact that some people get it so severe that it actually becomes a reoccurring thing that never fully leaves your system.

Maybe that's why Brock pulled out of WWE so fast, but he couldn't pull out of Sable

loss of appetite? hmmm.. does this mean we will have a 230lb Lesnar? lol

This is not a pleasant news as this actually might affect his title reign that he wont be 100% ready for any fight in the near future.
