The League of Champions is an American professional wrestling which promotes shows throughout all fifty states, as well as Australia, Canada, England, Mexico, and Japan. It promotes a blend of Lucha Libre, Japanese Strong Style, Puroresu and Submission Wrestling to create an athletic, high energy alternative to more traditional promotions. Focusing on quality of wrestling as an imperative, the promotion holds a weekly television show — LOC Ascension — along with six annual pay per view events. In addition, the company also holds several live event tournaments every year, and take part in several global tours.​

Promotion Signs Exclusive Deals with Nippon TV, Sky Sports, and TSN; Killswitch Engage to Provide Ascension Live! Theme Song​

Los Angeles, California: LOC News Release — The League of Champions today announced the signing of three new television contracts which will help distribute League programming internationally beginning October of 2012. League President Daniel Graham released a memo to AP news wires approximately one hour ago, announcing the LOC's official partnership with Canada's TSN, Great Britain's Sky Sports, and Japan's Nippon TV to secure international broadcasting rights of LOC's new two-hour primetime special, Ascension Live. "These new television deals are crucial for getting our product to the viewing public overseas," Graham commented to LOC Weekly's Mike Ellis. "With this new television exposure, we're on our way to creating a global brand that can revolutionize professional wrestling as we know it." The terms of the three agreements have not yet been released, but industry insiders speculate that more television agreements may be signed in Australia and Europe by the end of 2012. The news comes just two days after League of Champions, Inc. and Roadrunner Records recording artists Killswitch Engage came to a licensing agreement for an official theme song for LOC Ascension. The group's popular hit 'My Curse' was announced yesterday as the official theme song of the television broadcast on FX. At this time, no official theme song for Ascension has been licensed for the League's international programming.​

Also, for anyone that's interested in the 'culmination' of the first bloc of storylines (to conclude at the Endgame PPV in December), here is the prospective card as it is booked now. Be advised that for League of Champions Pay Per View Events, there are two 'tiers' of programming. Fans have two options when ordering the show: a $29.95 Contender's Package which includes the thirty-minute Countdown Show and the main pay per view broadcast, or a $39.95 Champion's Package which produces an extra hour of exclusive matches that are otherwise only available to the live crowd in attendance.

Kevin Kelly: Hello wrestling fans! We are live from the U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona! Tonight, for the first time ever, the League of Champions is on the air with Ascension Live! I'm Kevin Kelly, joined here tonight by the crew of Countdown to Ascension—to my left, the pride of Toronto himself, the 'Rated R Superstar' Edge; wrestling's 'Hardcore Legend', Mick Foley; and the 'Human Suplex Machine', Tazz! Gentlemen, it's going to be one incredible night of wrestling competition!

Edge: No doubt, you can say that again. Wrestling fans have been waiting for this date since the lineup was announced, and I can tell you that everyone is looking forward to seeing the action here tonight. The one I'm looking forward to, Kevin? The showdown between my countryman Chris Jericho and the Olympic Gold Medalist, Kurt Angle. Both of these guys are going to be in contention for the League's Heavyweight Crown, and tonight may be a preview of who in fact takes the fifteen pounds of gold!

Kevin Kelly: A lot of people are looking forward to that encounter, as they are our tag team bout here tonight. All four men grappling here tonight know a thing or two about toughness, as does our very own Mick Foley.

Mick Foley: The Briscoe Brothers have made a name for themselves around the country over the past few years for their willingness to throw caution to the wind. I want to see how they stack up against a pair of guys from across the ocean who love to fight.

Kevin Kelly: Yes indeed, just one of five incredible match-ups we have for you here tonight. Two of the world's best female wrestlers will tangle tonight as Gail Kim takes on Sara Del Rey. Also, we've got a big triple threat match pitting Christoper Daniels, Kofi Kingston and Low Ki together in a match that could have Cruiserweight Title implications. But Tazz, all eyes tonight are on the six men who will be competing in our Main Event!

Tazz: That's right—a lot of people on the internet have been looking forward to this match since it was signed. A lot of people even think that these six men represent the absolute best professional wrestlers in the world. Can the team of A.J. Styles, Austin Aries and Rey Mysterio overcome the tenacity of CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Davey Richards? It's gonna be fun to find out!

Kevin Kelly: Wrestling fans, we've got a lot of action here for you tonight. In about one hour, LOC's own Sean Mooney will sit down with one of professional wrestling's most controversial champions of all time, Brock Lesnar for a one-on-one interview. We'll be back later tonight, but right now let's send you down to ringside. Here tonight for the call of the action, it's Mike Tenay and Jeremy Borash! Take it away, guys!

Mike Tenay: Hello wrestling fans, and welcome to ringside! This is 'Iron' Mike Tenay along with Jeremy Borash, and you heard our colleagues just a moment ago. Five big matches, all with major ranking implications moving forward, and Jeremy, this could be the biggest night in the history of our sport to date!

Jeremy Borash: Mike, it's going to be an incredible night of action. Some of these wrestlers tonight have made a name for themselves worldwide, while others are making their first mark on our industry. All told, this will be one historic night!

Mike Tenay: Yes, indeed, a historic night here from the U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Five matches with major implications as the League gets underway here this evening.

Jeremy Borash: And let's not forget—Brock Lesnar is in the building here tonight, and will be speaking his mind with our friend Sean Mooney at the top of the hour!

Mike Tenay: —And it looks like we're just about ready to get underway here tonight... and it's our feature match! Our feature this evening, leading the way as we kick off Ascension Live!

Match #1: Daniel Bryan, Davey Richards and CM Punk vs. A.J. Styles, Austin Aries and Rey Mysterio
The tandem of Styles, Aries and Mysterio start off quickly against their slightly-slower opponents, with Mysterio using high energy, high impact attacks to keep the opposing team off their toes. At first, Styles and Aries manage to keep things firmly in their control at first, but Bryan manages to take over on Mysterio, who becomes the focal point of the Bryan-Richards-Punk team's attack. Much of the match is spent with them brutalizing Mysterio's knee to try and neutralize his aerial assault. Mysterio finally makes the hot tag to Styles, who cleans house and triggers a pier six brawl. The fighting spills over to the outside, where the referee quickly loses control of the bout. The ending comes when Richards attacks the wrong man in the melee, allowing the legal man (Mysterio) to roll him up for the surprise small package at 18:15. Overall, the general consensus amongst those watching is that while Styles, Aries and Mysterio work well together, they lacked the cohesive unity exemplified by the team of CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Davey Richards.


Match #2: Gail Kim vs. Sara Del Rey
The match begins with Del Rey suffering a sneak attack at the hands of Kim, who actually manages to control early off the submarine attack. Del Rey fights back quickly however with an arsenal rarely seen in North America women's wrestling, and she quickly overwhelms Kim to retake the initiative. For the next ten minutes, both women equalize a bit and trade the momentum back and forth, with Del Rey finally landing the Koppu Kick as Kim charges for a corner attack, earning her the hard-fought pin at 10:20.


Match #3: Christopher Daniels vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Low Ki
The triple threat match begins with both Daniels and Low Ki pairing up against the larger Kingston, who finds himself at a 2-on-1 disadvantage early. The team work is short lived, as both Daniels and Low Ki quickly reignite old hostilities that have never quite abated. The fierceness of Daniels' aggression allows Kingston to recuperate long enough to mount his own offensive flurry on Daniels. After this, the three men fend for themselves with Daniels looking the stronger of the three. The finish arrives at a flurry of activity, with Low Ki being ejected up and over the ring post to the floor from the corner on a failed Shining Wizard attempt on Daniels, who turns around after gloating to walk straight into Trouble in Paradise, which snags Kofi the win at 14:19.

Sean Mooney: Wrestling fans, I'm here backstage with professional wrestling's hottest free agent, the 'Next Big Thing' Brock Lesnar. Mr. Lesnar, it's a pleasure to speak with you this evening.

Brock Lesnar: Obviously the pleasure is all yours, Sean.

Sean Mooney: Well, ah, the wrestling world has been buzzing as of late about rumors that you are planning on making a decision as to whether or not you want to perform in the League of Champions in 2013. Would you care to comment?

Brock Lesnar: Well Sean, it's quite simple. I am the best pure athlete in the world today. If I want to accomplish something, I go out and I get it done. I ruled the wrestling ring once, then I moved to the Octagon and ruled there. As far as I'm concerned, this is my business, and everyone else is just along for the ride.

Sean Mooney: So you have no doubt that you would be able to compete at a high level in the League?

Brock Lesnar: Sean, does it look like I would have trouble competing here? Look at this body. Look at this frame! When you take my agility, my size, and my skill set and stick it in an animal with raw power, you get greatness! That's what I am, Sean Mooney, I'm... Greatness!

Sean Mooney: Some people may construe that as arrogance, Mr. Lesnar. Some might say that you're overconfident.

Brock Lesnar: You're talking to Brock Lesnar. There's nothing that I can't do. And I mean nothing.

Sean Mooney: Well Mr. Lesnar, if you were to sign a contract to compete in the League, who would you consider worthwhile opponents? Many have speculated that you and Kurt Angle have... something of a history together?

Brock Lesnar: Who?

Sean Mooney: Kurt Angle? The Olympic Gold Medalist?

Brock Lesnar: Oh, the pipsqueak! Sean, let me make this very clear to you. I don't fear any man, or any challenge. Do you know why?

Sean Mooney: Why?

Brock Lesnar: Because I'm Brock Lesnar, that's why. No one can touch me, and I mean no one. If I decide to compete here, it's because I got bored, and wanted someone to beat up. Now, unless you want to volunteer for the job, I think this interview is over.

Sean Mooney: Thank you for your time. Mike, Jeremy, let's send it back to you at ringside.

Match #4: The Briscoe Brothers vs. Sheamus and Wade Barrett
The match begins cautiously, with the rough-hewn Briscoes feeling out the larger European tandem. Once the fight begins however, the fight is on. The battle quickly becomes a war of attrition, with Sheamus working over Mark for a decent portion of the match. Both teams establish parity on an even footing, with the Briscoes able to dish out as much punishment as they take. The size of Sheamus and Barrett allow them to control the middle portion of the match before Jay leads his team to the comeback. The finish comes with all four men fighting in the ring. Barrett looks to finish the legal man Mark with the Wasteland, but Jay manages to evade Sheamus long enough to dropkick Wade before he can perform the move, allowing Mark to use Barrett's momentum moving backward to hook a crucifix pin while on his shoulders, holding him down for the surprise three count at 13:43. After the match, both teams demonstrate respect for the other, while the World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) come out by the entrance way to observe.


Match #5: Chris Jericho vs. Kurt Angle
The fight is given a 'big match' feel from the start, as ring announcer Tony Chimel does in-ring, boxing-style introductions for both competitors. Both men feel each other out to start, with neither man willing to make a mistake and allow the other wily veteran an opportunity. Both men wrestling scientifically at first, but Jericho breaks the deadlock early with strikes that put Angle on the defensive. The edge allows Jericho to utilize his speed to his advantage, putting Angle into a spot of trouble early on. Angle manages to counter with his greater knowledge of catch wrestling however, and spends the better part of the mid portion of the match using both suplexes and his submissions to try and force Jericho to quit. After several minutes, Jericho begins to flurry with a desperate attack, but walks into an Angle Slam out of desperation on Angle's part... for two. Kurt goes up to try a Moonsault, but eats the canvas as Jericho takes control again. A quick series of exchanges allows Jericho to hit a Codebreaker, which only grabs a two count from the referee. Jericho and Angle tussle by the corner, but an Irish Whip reversal inadvertently knocks out the referee. When Jericho attempts the Codebreaker again, Angle somehow counters into the Angle Lock, which puts Jericho on the verge of tapping. As the referee is out however, Brock Lesnar runs in from the crowd with a steel chair, plastering the unsuspecting Angle atop the head. The move cuts Angle deeply, as Brock departs back up the ramp before the referee comes to. Jericho slowly covers the unconscious Angle and earns the pin fall at 20:48. Backstage personnel come to Kurt's assistance as Jericho wearily rolls out of the ring, looking cautiously up the ramp towards Lesnar, who smiles down at the carnage he's wrought.

Mike Tenay: The referee was out when Lesnar attacked! I cannot believe what we just witnessed here tonight—a travesty, a miscarriage of justice in Phoenix!

Jeremy Borash: Kurt Angle fought so hard for the victory tonight; to come up short because of outside interference is absolutely ridiculous. We can't take anything away from Chris Jericho though—he fought hard, and looked just as shocked as we all were when Lesnar intervened.

Mike Tenay: Angle is being helped now to the back by staff physicians and trainers; he's obviously going to need stitches to close the laceration in his forehead. I can tell you this, though—we haven't seen the last of Kurt Angle!

Jeremy Borash: I just wonder what's going to come of all this next week in San Diego? There will be some very tense times on our next broadcast.

Kevin Kelly: Alright guys, thank you very much from ringside. Gentlemen, at the onset this night promised to be one for the record books, and it certainly delivered. Of course the big development here this evening—the one that everyone will be talking about tomorrow—was the Angle/Lesnar altercation just a few minutes ago. I think it's safe to say that we can expect more from these two in the weeks ahead.

Edge: Kevin, you're talking about two of the most competitive athletes in the sport right now, and two of the most gifted professional wrestlers to have ever set foot inside a ring. I don't know what Brock Lesnar's problem is with Kurt Angle, but I can tell you that whatever hatred drove him to attack here tonight, the feeling is now certainly mutual.

Kevin Kelly: What part do you think that Chris Jericho plays in all of this? He certainly looked surprised when Lesnar intervened this evening.

Edge: I've been in the ring with Chris Jericho on many different occasions, and I can tell you that 'Y2J' will do what it takes to win. But I also know Chris well enough to know that, in a match with stakes as high as these were tonight, he was going to exhaust everything in his own power to win this match. Jericho might have been the benefactor here this evening, but I'm not so sure that he will be so lucky next time.

Mick Foley: I think you have to look at it in the proper context. Chris was able to benefit from the injury Kurt sustained due to Brock Lesnar's attack. When you're inside that ring and you're trying to advance through the ranks, you have to rely on some luck every once in a while to catch a break. That was the theme that I took from tonight.

Kevin Kelly: Yes indeed, it certainly was an exciting evening here tonight. We saw a lot of promising young talent that will be looking to make a splash in the weeks to come.

Mick Foley: Yeah, I was really impressed with Kofi Kingston this evening; I think that he picked up a hard-fought win against two very talented wrestlers. I think the Briscoe Brothers and the Barrett and Sheamus tandem are going to become very successful in the weeks ahead. I don't think either team lost much by the decision tonight, all things considered. And I'll tell you, I'm really impressed with Sara Del Rey and the job that she did out there tonight. This is going to be interesting to see how women's wrestling evolves here in the League of Champions.

Kevin Kelly: There is a lot of promise in the careers of our young wrestlers here. But Tazz, I think that when push comes to shove, the wrestlers who will have the biggest impact up ahead will be the six men we watched in tonight's feature match-up.

Tazz: Without a doubt, it was a crazy fight that could have gone either way. I thought that it was important for Rey Mysterio to pick up that victory tonight, and prove that the divisional boundaries between the Cruiserweights and the Heavyweights here in the League of Champions are easily blurred.

Kevin Kelly: Do you think that we could see more of CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Davey Richards working together in the future? They looked awfully cohesive out there to have been thrown together randomly for the show tonight.

Tazz: That remains to be seen, but I'll tell you this—if they are working together, then the entire League just got put on notice. That group would be hard to beat!

I like it as it means the show itself can focus on the wrestling portion of the program and then allow the speakers to drill home plot points and hype for future matches. The talkers do the talking, the wrestlers do the wrestling. Simple as hell idea, but rarely executed so simply and effectively, bravo.

THE LEAGUE ANNOUNCES SPLIT BRANDS!
The success of Ascension prompts a new direction for the League of Champions.

Los Angeles, California: LOC News Release — Following the landmark television event LOC Ascension Live! this past Thursday on the FX Network, League of Champions Inc. reached a tentative agreement with the Fox Entertainment Group to syndicate a weekly ninety minute wrestling program devoted to the League's exciting wrestlers. The show, LOC EXCEL Pro Wrestling Live will be primarily taped before or after the live FX broadcast of Ascension and be distributed to the various regional affiliates of Fox Sports Net. The first show is expected to be taped on September 13th from the Cow Palace in San Francisco, California and will feature an exclusive Countdown show much like its predecessor show. League officials confirm that the continued success of Ascension may lead to the development of a second live broadcast in 2013.

In related news, the League of Champions signed legendary member of the Guerrero Family, Chavo Guerrero along with retired women's wrestling legend Lisa "Ivory" Moretti and long-time wrestling commentator Scott Hudson to helm up the Countdown to EXCEL show.​

Kevin Kelly: Hello wrestling fans! We are coming to you live from Viejas Arena in beautiful San Diego, California, the host for tonight's broadcast of Ascension Live! I'm Kevin Kelly, joined here tonight as always by the crew of Countdown to Ascension—to my left, the pride of Toronto himself, the 'Rated R Superstar' Edge; wrestling's 'Hardcore Legend', Mick Foley; and the 'Human Suplex Machine', Tazz! Gentlemen, after last week, we have a lot of things beginning to pop here in the League!

Edge: Absolutely. Last week, Brock Lesnar put his stamp on the League of Champions by assaulting Kurt Angle in his match with Chris Jericho. Kurt is a very proud man, and I don't think you're going to see him taking it down—that's something that we need to watch for. The Briscoe Brothers picked up an incredible win against Sheamus and Wade Barrett last week. Tonight we see the World's Greatest Tag Team make their League debut; we may be seeing the two teams who will vie for the Tag Team Championship soon enough. And finally, let's not forget the big six man tag last week—Rey Mysterio and company picked up the win, but I don't think that we've seen the last of CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Davey Richards working together. Kevin, I think there may be something more to that tandem.

Kevin Kelly: Yes indeed, some very solid work from that fixture last week may be indicative of things to come. But tonight Mick, we turn our attention to a new crop of superstars who will be making their League debuts tonight, including two very talented and powerful grapplers who will be squaring off in our feature event here tonight. Of course, I'm talking about 'the Animal' Batista as he takes on 'Cowboy' James Storm!

Mick Foley: These are two guys Kevin that could make a strong claim to being a top contender to the LOC World Heavyweight Crown. I think that you're going to see a much more physical match up between these two than we did last week with Chris and Kurt, but these two have the talent to win on wrestling skill, too. I think you're going to see a very close match here.

Kevin Kelly: It's a very exciting match up, to say the least. We've got quite a few exciting matches here tonight, including our first look at Japanese sensation Jun Akiyama as he takes on Carly Colón in an exciting match up. Bobby Roode is here with us, Tazz, and he'll be taking on John Morrison in a fascinating encounter!

Tazz: Let's not forget about our big tag team showdown in the Women's Division tonight, as Allison Danger and Beth Phoenix team up to take on a pair of Joshi Puro's best, Dash Chisako and Tsukushi! I'm fired up, Kevin!

Kevin Kelly: You should be fired up—we're all excited here tonight for the next installment of Ascension. Without further ado, let's send it down to ringside where Mike Tenay and Jeremy Borash have the call. We'll see you later tonight!

Mike Tenay: Hello wrestling fans, and welcome to ringside! This is 'Iron' Mike Tenay along with Jeremy Borash here at ringside, and you heard our colleagues just a moment ago. Five big matches again here tonight, all with major implications for the future here in the League of Champions.

Jeremy Borash: Mike, it's going to be an incredible night of action. We've got a whole new crop of wrestlers to watch for the first time here tonight, and I'm really looking forward to our tag team matches!

Mike Tenay: It should be a great night of wrestling action here in San Diego, Jeremy. We're just about ready for our tag team encounter pitting Allison Danger and Beth Phoenix against Dash Chisako and Tsukushi.

Jeremy Borash: It should be a great night of action, Mike! I can't wait to get started!

Mike Tenay: Well, the waiting is over here in San Diego. Let's get to it as we kick off tonight's broadcast of Ascension Live!

Match #1: Allison Danger and Beth Phoenix vs. Dash Chisako and Tsukushi
Danger and Phoenix are quickly overwhelmed by the much faster team of Dash Chisako and Tsukushi, who use their speed and tenacity to take the early advantage against the American contingent. A shot to the ring post outside turns the tables in short order however, and Danger and Phoenix take turns using their size advantage to neutralize Tsukushi. Much of the match sees the young Tsukushi trying to tag out; when she finally makes the hot tag, Dash demonstrates the ability to hang with both Allison Danger and Beth Phoenix. All four women get mixed up in a pier-six brawl, which sees Chisako driving Allison out of the ring. The opening allows Phoenix to hit her with the Glam Slam for the pin to win at 12:46.

Match #2: Jun Akiyama vs. Carly Colón
Akiyama and Colón feel each other out to start, with both men showing a complete lack of respect for one another. The battle turns into a dirty contest, with both men using whatever advantage they could—legal or otherwise—to get the upper hand. For the most part, Akiyama controls the smaller Carly, who spends much of the match working from the disadvantaged position. Colón finally mounts a comeback after a prolonged period of control from Akiyama, but Jun quickly capitalizes on a missed charge from Carly, and the Blue Thunder Driver finishes it at 11:11.

Sean Mooney: Mike, Jeremy, I'm standing here with none other than 'the Animal' Batista, who has graciously agreed to an interview here tonight before his big feature match up with the 'Cowboy' James Storm. Batista, it's going to be a very big match for you here tonight!

Batista: You said it right when you mentioned my having 'graciously' allowed this interview, Mooney. I really don't have much time for people like you, or people like James Storm for that matter. Truthfully, I don't even know why the League is wasting one of my contractual dates on a no-name hack like James Storm. But if that's what it takes to get an easy paycheck around here, then I'll take care of my business in short order.

Sean Mooney: So you're not concerned with your match tonight against the 'Cowboy'? A lot of people think this could be a preview of the League's World Championship fixture.

Batista: Half of the fixture, Sean. Just half of it; there's no comparison to my looks, my body, or my skills inside that ring. I own that ring, and there's not a damn thing that anyone else here can do about it. They can kiss babies and hug fat chicks all they want, but when the smoke clears, I will be the very first World Heavyweight Champion of this League! It's the Animal's turn, Mooney. Get ready for it!

Match #3: Bobby Roode vs. John Morrison
Morrison controls Roode for quite a bit at the start of the match. Roode tries a variety of desperation moves to stem the tide of Morrison's offense, but he finds himself on the defensive for much of the first portion of the match. A cheap low blow finally manages to turn the tide, and Roode is able to capitalize on the illegal maneuver with a steady stream of offense that swings the momentum back in his favor. Roode very nearly puts Morrison away, but John fights back finally with a quick burst of offensive maneuvers. Roode is put into a compromising position, but Starship Pain only gets two. After a quick tussle, Bobby Roode reverses a small package, holding onto the ropes for added leverage as he gets the pin at 16:17.

Matt Striker: I'm here now at this time with Cody Rhodes and the 'Show Off' Dolph Ziggler. Guys, you're scheduled to compete next week in a big tag team showdown with Epico and Primo, the Colón Brothers on Ascension from Los Angeles. You guys have any thoughts?

Cody Rhodes: Yeah, we have some thoughts, Striker. We're thinking that we're too damn good to be competing against a couple of scrubs! You take a good look, wrestling world, at the future of this business! Dolph and I are absolute perfection out in that ring, and we're going to take ours and get a piece of that brass ring before all is said and done.

Matt Striker: So you don't think the Colón Brothers represent a worthy challenge?

Dolph Ziggler: Oh, please. When you get the second generation superstar in Cody Rhodes and the 'Show Off' together, magical things happen Matt. You're looking at the young guns of professional wrestling! We're going to destroy Epico and Primo, and then we're going to ride our perfection all the way to the Tag Team Titles!

Matt Striker: There's a lot of people right now who would say you've got an uphill battle ahead of you in your quest to become the World Tag Team Champions.

Dolph Ziggler: You don't get it do you, Striker? You're looking at absolute perfection here! There's no way anyone—not the Briscoes, not Sheamus and Barrett, not the World's Greatest Tag Team—could ever take us down. We will be the first Tag Champions, and you can take that to the bank!

Cody Rhodes: C'mon man, let's get out of here before Striker brings us down to his level.

Matt Striker: Thanks for the interview, guys. Mike, Jeremy, let's send it back out to you at ringside.

Match #4: The World's Greatest Tag Team vs. Brian Kendrick and Paul London
London and Kendrick double team Haas and Benjamin to start off with, but Benjamin and Haas easily overcome the much smaller duo after several minutes of back and forth action. In particular, Haas spends a lot of time working on London's knee in an attempt to neutralize some of his high-powered offense. Kendrick manages to turn the tide briefly, but Benjamin superkicks him out of the match. From there, the World's Greatest Tag Team dismantles London and easily puts him in a compromising position. Kendrick finally turns the tide off a hot tag, but a pier six brawl takes both him and Benjamin out of the match. London attempts to capitalize with a high risk maneuver off the top, but a dropkick to the leg crotches him on the top turnbuckle, and a Charlie Haas Superplex ends London's night at 20:15 to secure the victory for the World's Greatest Tag Team. The Briscoe Brothers come out to the top of the entrance way at the end of the match to watch, in a mirroring of the previous week's episode.

Sean Mooney: Mike and Jeremy, I'm here backstage with the 'Olympic Gold Medalist' Kurt Angle. Kurt, last week you were viciously attacked by Brock Lesnar in a move that cost you in your match with Chris Jericho. Could you tell us how you feel about this turn of events?

Kurt Angle: Tell you how I feel? You want me to tell you how I freakin' feel? I'm angry as Hell, Mooney! What kind of a stupid question is that? I'm out there having the match of my life against Chris Jericho when the jackass hits me over the head with a chair! What did you think I'd say? That I like getting plastered with a chair?

Sean Mooney: Well Kurt, a lot of people are wondering now what your reaction will be, if and when Brock Lesnar returns here to the League of Champions.

Kurt Angle: My reaction is the same for Brock Lesnar as it is for any other wrestler. Brock, you're a great wrestler. You've got NCAA Championships to your name, and you made a name for yourself in mixed martial arts. Yeah, well I'm an Olympic Gold Medalist, pal! I won in Atlanta in 1996 with a broke freaking neck! It's going to take a lot more than a steel chair to put me out of commission. All you've gone and done is pissed me off, and that's a dangerous place for you to be!

Sean Mooney: Do you think Chris Jericho had anything to do with Brock Lesnar interjecting himself last week?

Kurt Angle: I don't even know, Sean, and it doesn't really matter to me. Whoever's working with Brock Lesnar is going to enjoy getting their ankle snapped! I'm going to run right over Lesnar, and I'm going to take this promotion by storm! Oh, it's true! It's damn true!

Sean Mooney: Thank you, Kurt. We'll be right back with our main event, folks—stay with us!

Match #5: Batista vs. James Storm
The fight is given a 'big match' feel from the start, much like the Angle-Jericho match from Phoenix. Batista and Storm exchange blows quickly to start, and its apparent that the Animal wants nothing to do with the Cowboy. Storm manages to control Batista with power moves when he's in the ring, but Batista's strength manages to overcome Storm for a time. Both men are somewhat evenly matched, though Batista looks to have the edge for most of the middle portion of the match. Storm makes a tremendous comeback towards the end, using more speed that Batista can muster. The finish is highly controversial, however. Storm knocks out the referee on a missed Last Call Superkick. He does manage to hit Batista with the Eye of the Storm in an impressive visual, but the referee cannot make the count. As Storm goes to retrieve the awakening ref, Batista catches him from behind, and a Batista Bomb secures the three count for the pin at 14:15. However, it is revealed shortly thereafter that the referee missed Storm's foot being on the bottom rope, which should have broken the count and led to the continuation of the match. Storm argues with the referee as Batista high-tails it back to the locker room.

Mike Tenay: What a miscarriage of justice here in San Diego!

Jeremy Borash: I can't believe it, Mike. James Storm had the match won on two different occasions with the referee knocked out of the ring. And then the referee misses his foot on the bottom rope and counts him out for the pin fall? That's crazy!

Mike Tenay: James Storm has a very strong case for getting a continuation of this match at some point down the line. League officials are going to have to go back and review this controversial finish here tonight.

Jeremy Borash: I can tell you one thing, Mike—I don't think the issue has been resolved here, obviously between these two. You're right; I think we have yet to see the last of this one on Ascension!

Mike Tenay: Folks, it's been an incredible night of wrestling action here in San Diego. A controversial night to say the least, but a great one. We'll see where things go over the next week as we prepare for the big show to start off September in Los Angeles. For now though, let's send it back up to Kevin Kelly who's standing by with the Countdown to Ascension crew! Kelly!

Kevin Kelly: Alright guys, thank you very much from ringside. Gentlemen, we knew on the heels of last week that we were in for a treat here tonight. It was an exciting night of wrestling action, but I think we were all surprised up here that the evening ended once again in a considerable bit of controversy.

Edge: Kevin, there's no excuse for what happened in the Batista-James Storm match. I understand being knocked for a loop accidentally by the Cowboy, but the referee has to make that call correctly on the pin fall attempt. It sets a very dangerous precedent moving forward about the quality of the League's officiating.

Kevin Kelly: Do you think we could see a continuation of this match up next week in Los Angeles?

Edge: It's too early to tell, Kevin. The League officials will need to sit down and review the film from tonight's broadcast to make a fair determination about where to go. You can't really blame Batista for the referee's missed call here tonight; he did what he was trained to do. I think we'll need to see where League officials decide to go over the next few days.

Mick Foley: Well Edge hit it right on the head there. If this promotion is going to thrive, you have to have world class officials refereeing in there. I know Jack Doane quite well, and he's an exceptional referee. Tonight, he blew the call, and I think it'll serve as a wake up call for referees in the future to get the job done better and better.

Kevin Kelly: With the controversy aside for a moment, we did have some very enticing match ups here this evening. I think one of the most endearing ones to me personally was Bobby Roode and John Morrison. You may not agree with Roode's tactics, but I think both he and Morrison proved a lot about their futures here in the League!

Mick Foley: Yeah, I was really impressed with both guys this evening. Bobby Roode can bend the rules on occasion, but I felt like he wrestled a pretty good match up until the very end there. I think he's got a bright future ahead, and I think John Morrison can go really far as well. I like what I saw tonight from them, but I especially liked what I saw out of the World's Greatest Tag Team. I think they have a real shot at becoming the very first Tag Team Champions when it's all said and done with.

Kevin Kelly: Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin were very impressive here tonight. They've been a tag team for quite some time now, Tazz. Do you think we're heading for a Briscoe Brothers-World's Greatest Tag Team showdown for the titles?

Tazz: I think it's too early to tell yet, Kevin. Even with the loss last week, Sheamus and Wade Barrett are going to play a huge factor in the title picture. We get our first look at Cody Rhodes and Dolph Ziggler next week, along with Epico and Primo. I think that Colt Cabana and Roderick Strong will play a huge role in deciding the tag team picture as well.

Kevin Kelly: The tag team division definitely shows some promise, as does the women's division here in the League of Champions. Both Allison Danger and Beth Phoenix looked mighty impressive in their win tonight against Dash Chisako and Tsukushi. Along with Sara Del Rey, they could be a force in the women's division here moving forward!

Tazz: I loved what I saw from Allison and Beth tonight. I think both of them will factor into the conversation when it's time to decide who the world's best female wrestler really is. And I want to give a shout out to Jun Akiyama for his hard fought victory here tonight. I like what Carly Colón brings to the League, but I really like what I saw with Jun here tonight. He's going to be something special here stateside.
