Just got back from seeing Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Another great film from Marvel, don't think it was quite as good as Thor 2, but I think it'll be far more rewatchable than Iron Man 3. The spy and espionage stuff really helped separate the film from becoming standard Marvel affair (which between this and Thor 2, they deserve a world of credit for) but involved far more of the existing cinematic universe than the last two films (without alienating casual viewers at the same time).

As for the traditional post credit scene which I REALLY WANNA TALK ABOUT BUT CAN'T CAUSE Y'KNOW, SPOILERS, let's just say it's Age Of Ultron relevant *drops mic*

Dead Body Found on the Seoul Set of The Avengers: Age of Ultron
Suicide suspected, according to local authorities.

The production of Marvel's The Avengers: Age of Ultron set up shop in Seoul, South Korea, this past weekend during which time a dead boy was found on the grounds of the set.

Naver says Avengers 2 was shooting at Mapo Bridge -- the first time the bridge had ever been closed for the filming of a movie, prompting director Joss Whedon to publicly apologize to the citizens for causing traffic delays -- during which time a security guard reportedly found a dead body floating in the water under the bridge.

Mapo Bridge is apparently an infamous suicide spot in Seoul, and police reportedly believe the deceased had died about two weeks prior to its discovery.

Nathan Fillion Teases Possible Guardians of the Galaxy Role

Did Nathan Fillion just reveal his surprise role in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy? Probably not, but it's hard to dismiss something this sensationally geeky.

Fillion was fielding questions at the St. Louis Comic-Con's Firefly panel when one particularly saucy questioner asked him about his history with Guardians director James Gunn. Fillion starred in Gunn's breakout movie Slither, and wore a ridiculous costume as The Holy Avenger in Super. Given his relationship with Gunn and Avengers 2 director Joss Whedon, this fan asked Fillion, "Were you wanting to get a part in Guardians of the Galaxy?"

Fillion, mischievous devil that he is, responded, "Wanting to? Or maybe, did?" After the crowd calmed down he continued, cryptically, "I'm just sayin' maybe. Maybe there'll be a surprise. Maybe check the credits after the movie when you watch it." At which point the entire auditorium went bananas.

Sure, it's possible Fillion -- either with the studio's blessing or without -- just leaked a bit of fanboy catnip in front of a live audience. By referring to the end credits, he could be pointing to one of Marvel's trademark post-credits sequences, which could in turn lead to an entire...ahem...universe of possibilities. On the other hand, maybe he's just saying you'll have to check the credits to know if he was in the movie. I wouldn't put it past him to volunteer to play an anonymous alien extra just for fun.

Either way, we'll have to wait until August 1 when Guardians of the Galaxy premieres to find out.

With X-Men: Days of Future Past only a couple weeks away (so excited!), the X-Men franchise is showing no signs of slowing down. X-Men: Apocalypse is set for May 27, 2016, and the third Wolverine movie hits theaters on March 3, 2017. That’s a pretty tight window, but we assumed that it wouldn’t be too much of a crunch since the two productions could function independently and could even run concurrently. We previously reported that Apocalypse would focus more on the First Class crew, and James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult were the only actors confirmed to return.

Except now it looks like Hugh Jackman will be in Apocalypse as well, and the plan is to film back-to-back with Wolverine 3. Hit the jump for more.

x-men-apocalypse-wolverine-3-hugh-jackmanDuring the recent press day for X-Men: Days of Future Past, Steve spoke with Jackman as well as producers Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker. Steve was working under the assumption that Jackman would return for Apocalypse, and neither party did anything to contradict that notion. If anything, they acted as if it were common knowledge as well.

Speaking to Jackman, Steve asked about trying to do Apocalypse and Wolverine 3 back-to-back because it would be easier for the actor to maintain his superhero physique:

One of the things people don’t realize is that you went from shooting The Wolverine to this…

HUGH JACKMAN: I did Prisoners in between.

But it was pretty close.

JACKMAN: Pretty close. It was about four months in between.

Is that something you’d want to do in the future, let’s say for X-Men: Apocalypse and another Wolverine sequel? Or is that something where you think that’s too much?

JACKMAN: No, in a weird way that has crossed my mind if that’s the way things play out, because physically, even though I was complaining about it because I found out about [X-Men: Days of Future Past] a month before I finished The Wolverine, so I was already planning on my cheat meals. It’s much easier because it’s tough to get there, physically, but once you’re there, it’s easier to maintain it.

x-men-apocalypse-wolverine-3-hugh-jackmanSo while Jackman didn’t specifically confirm that Wolverine was in Apocalypse, he seemed at ease with the idea of doing that movie back-to-back with the third Wolverine.

The notion of shooting the films back-to-back became even clearer as Donner and Hutch talked about Apocalypse and the next Wolverine movie:

It seemed what [Jackman] was saying to me was that in an ideal world, X-Men: Apocalypse and another Wolverine solo movie would be, in an ideal world, filmed very close together to keep his physique. So are you guys planning to film them that way?

LAUREN SHULER DONNER: We’re trying

HUTCHER PARKER: We are.

DONNER: We’re absolutely trying, yes.

Is there any target for when you’re going to film Apocalypse or the next Wolverine?

DONNER: Well, we announced Apocalypse to come out in 2016, so that means we have to shoot next summer. And then we’d have to shoot our new Wolverine movie either before or after that. I think after because it will come out after.

PARKER: And as much as you have an ambition for these things, it is, as you said about Hugh, getting a script that everybody feels is ready and right. Because that is the foundation on which everything is built. So I think the goal will be Apocalypse for 2016, which means at the latest [filming begins] in summer 2015, and then the same thing with Wolverine, either before or after, but based on the script.

For me, the fact that back-to-back filming is a goal, and that they would need that goal, is confirmation that Jackman is on board for Apocalypse, although we obviously don’t know the size of his role.

Boardwalk Empire alum Charlie Cox is poised to play the title character in Marvel’s 13-episode series Daredevil, set to premiere on Netflix in 2015, sources confirm. The project was written by executive producer Drew Goddard, with Steven S. DeKnight just hired as executive producer/showrunner. Daredevil is the first of four 13-episode superhero series set in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of New York City, which Marvel is producing for Netflix. It will be followed Daredevilby Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage, with the characters from each show then coming together for an Avengers-type superhero teaming in a chapter-closing miniseries. The character of blind superhero Matt Murdock/Daredevil most recently was played on the big screen by Ben Affleck. Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen. The casting reaffirms Cox’s drama series leading-man potential, something CBS brass strongly believed in, casting the British actor as the lead of two consecutive pilots, The Ordained last season and John Cusack’s Wall Street project this season. Unfortunately, neither went to series. It is possible that Marvel can’t announce Cox because he hasn’t been formally released from the most recent CBS pilot. UPDATE 6 PM: Marvel officially announced Cox’s casting.

This sounds pretty good to me along with the four series ending in a nice little Avengers style mini-series as well.

Latino Review reports, confirmed by Variety, that Josh Brolin will provide the voice of Thanos for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.

Thanos is a member of the Enternals, a group of god-like beings with incredibly power. He's called the "Mad Titan" and is in love with the physical embodiment of Death. He has attempted to destroy humanity with his Infinity Gauntlet, which can control time, space, reality and even the human soul. It's unknown if the Gauntlet will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was revealed in Thor: The Dark World that The Collector (Benicio Del Toro) has been collecting powerful mystical objects, which led to many speculating that it would.

He first appeared in the post-credits scene for The Avengers and is expected to appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron next year. It's been rumored that he will be the main villain for the third film in the series.

Guardians of the Galaxy was directed by James Gunn. It will be released on August 1 and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Pace, Djimon Hounsou, Benicio del Toro, John C. Reilly, Close, Karen Gillan, Gregg Henry, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Dave Batista and Vin Diesel.

MARVEL LOSES ANT-MAN DIRECTOR EDGAR WRIGHT

Last week, just as the Weekly Ketchup went online before the start of Memorial Day weekend, a pretty big story broke. The news may have not been the Top Story in a week like that one, but the news cycle was much slower following the three day weekend. The wait may have been worth it, because we now have more actual news to report. The first thing that one should really know about the news that director Edgar Wright departed Marvel's Ant-Man is that his involvement dates all the way back to 2006, predating by two years the release of Iron Man, the movie without which there wouldn't even be "Marvel Cinematic Universe" (financially, at least). The planned Ant-Man release date of July 17, 2015 comes, therefore, almost a decade after Wright's work began. The reason for the Marvel/Wright split are credited (or blamed, rather) on a dispute over a new script draft (by someone other than Wright and partner Joe Cornish) based on Marvel's studio notes. Online reactions varied greatly over the weekend, although the general consensus seemed to sway more in favor of Wright. As of this writing, Marvel is still committed to producing the film in time for that release date, and talks are underway with at least three different comedy directors. The field of candidates includes Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, 30 Minutes or Less), Adam McKay (of the two Anchorman movies, and Step Brothers), and Rawson Marshall Thurber (We're the Millers, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story). Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas are still attached to star in Ant-Man (presuming filming still starts in June as planned), and other cast members previously announced include Evangeline Lilly, Matt Gerald, Corey Stoll, and Patrick Wilson. We don't know yet the identity of the mystery screenwriter who Marvel hired to work on Ant-Man.

It looks like Adam McKay is no longer interested in replacing Edgar Wright as the director of Marvel’s “Ant-Man,” sources confirm to Variety.

The “Anchorman” helmer has suddenly pulled out of negotiations to step in for Wright. He was in advanced talks to take on the movie just yesterday.

McKay was believed to be among several contenders, including “We’re the Millers” director Rawson Marshall Thurber and “Gangster Squad” helmer Ruben Fleischer, who met with Marvel president Kevin Feige this past week.

A director search had been underway since May 23 after Wright abruptly exited the superhero project due to creative differences. He had been developing the tentpole since 2006. Wright was reportedly upset that Marvel altered a version of the script he and Joe Cornish had written without their knowledge.

“The decision to move on is amicable,” Marvel said last week. “A new director will be announced shortly.”

Disney’s “Ant-Man,” which stars Paul Rudd as the titular hero, is set to film this summer and bow in theaters on July 17, 2015. McKay was considered a front-runner partly because of his close ties to Rudd, who he directed in both “Anchorman” comedies.

Well I take that back one loss in a director and anther in the who was interested to replace that director.

Another loss for Ant-Man, this projected is starting to get concerning:

This Is Infamous reports that director Rawson Thurber (We're The Millers, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story) has passed on Marvel's Ant-Man. Thurber was the next choice for Marvel to replace Edgar Wright after Adam McKay (Anchorman) also dropped out. McKay seemed to have briefly accepted the job but later cited a busy schedule as his reason for not being able to commit.

McKay and Thurber were considered along with Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland). It remains to be seen if Fleischer is offered the job, but he has recently been linked to Ghostbusters 3 (as we previously reported).

Marvel still wants the film to be completed for a July 17, 2015 release date, but time is running out.

Ant-Man is quickly shaping up to be Marvel Studio's first misstep. That 2015 is looking increasingly unlikely, and I don't fancy a rushed film for a new character either.

Meanwhile, Scott Derrickson seemingly confirms Doctor Strange:

Marvel has, perhaps appropriately, tapped a horror director for the film about their Sorcerer Supreme. Variety reports that Scott Derrickson, who has directed Sinister and the upcoming Deliver Us From Evil, is in talks to direct Dr. Strange. Sources note that the talks are early but that Derrickson is Marvel's choice and that the deal should be closed soon.

Dr. Strange, real name Stephen Vincent Strange, is one of the foremost mystics in the Marvel Universe. Dubbed the Sorcerer Supreme, he was an egotistical neurosurgeon who damaged his hands in a car accident, ruining his medicinal career. Obsessed with a cure and destitute, he turns to the mystical arts after discovering a hermit who is actually the Ancient One, the Earth's Sorcerer Supreme. After he helps the Ancient One thwart his villainous disciple Baron Mordo, he learns the ways of magic and inherits the Sorcerer Supreme title.

There was a brief reference to Strange in Captain America: The Winter Soldier when it is noted that Hydra has been keeping tabs on several potential threats; Stephen Strange is name-dropped there. There was also a reference to Strange in Thor where the Eye of Agamotto--a powerful mystical relic that belonged to a previous Sorcerer Supreme and a version of which is worn by Strange--is seen in Odin's vault.

He tweeted a pic of him with one of the comics as well. This all but confirms that Doctor Strange will be the 4th Phase 3 film along with Ant-Man (Should it ever get a director), Captain America 3 & Thor 3. With Avengers 3 confirmed and likely for 2018, chances are we'll have one more film to fill up this phase.

Five years ago Taylor Kitsch told us he was excited at the potential of giving us more Gambit after his introduction in 2009′s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But like Ryan Reynolds and the long-awaited Deadpool solo movie that can’t get a greenlight from Twentieth Century Fox, Kitsch just can’t catch a break. Gambit however, the X-Men thief and fan-favorite of comic readers, cartoon viewers and card collectors of the ’90s, is coming back – but it will be Channing Tatum playing him.

'X-Men: Apocalypse' Will Feature Some Original Cast Members

Tatum’s a big fan of the card-throwing, kinetic energy master and on-and-off-again love interest of fellow X-Men hero Rogue (Anna Paquin in the movies) and has long been vocal about his passion and interest for the character. He’s a fan of Kitsch’s work but understands the criticisms of his take on Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine where – like most of the adapted live-action versions of the characters – he was simplified down visually and lost his signature accent (much like Colossus, Pyro, Banshee, etc.). That’s right, Tatum will be performing the Cajun accent if/when he plays the character.

This isn’t just a case of an actor opening up about their personal interests, since he’s actually in talks with producer Lauren Shuler Donner who very much wants a Gambit solo movie too. And the timing for a (re)introduction could be soon given that Hugh Jackman seems to be swaying back-and-forth on whether or not he’ll continue playing X-Men franchise poster boy Wolverine after he returns for X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016 and Wolverine 3 in 2017.

Speaking with MTV, Channing Tatum explains where they are in the process at the moment.

“Creatively, we’re starting to chug forward. Obviously there’s nothing written. There are only conversations and dreams really, right now. The machine of the Marvel world is so ginormous that it’s literally like climbing a mountain, getting one of these movies made, and all of the pieces that go along with it, but I’ve been pretty vocal about wanting to be the part of Gambit for a very long time. It’s a weird, pinching-myself moment that we’re even having the conversation.â€

While it’s not official of course, X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner and writer Simon Kinberg have spoken excitedly about Tatum playing the Ragin’ Cajun mutant, even unofficially confirming that it’s going to happen. The question now is when.

“We’ve talked about it being a standalone, first, and actually trying to change the ‘hero, superhero movie’ just a little because Gambit is not really your stereotypical “hero†hero. He’s a thief. He walks on the gray. I’m hoping we can change it a little bit, and then ultimately feather into the other ones.â€

X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer namedropped Gambit and Nightcrawler as two characters he was very much interested in using in 2016′s X-Men: Apocalypse but that would make it impossible to give Tatum a standalone Gambit picture first. If the current goal is to find a writer to put together an X-Men Origins: Gambit style movie first, the earliest it would hit theaters would be 2018 unless Twentieth Century Fox has the production capacity to add another big budget tentpole to 2017 where they already have scheduled Fantastic Four 2 and a third Wolverine solo movie.

I am not so keen on Tatum portraying Gambit at all, but lets hope if he is Gambit he can do the character justice.

Marvel and Netflix’s “Daredevil†has found its Wilson Fisk in Vincent D’Onofrio, Marvel announced Tuesday.

Wilson Fisk, aka “the Kingpin,†is a powerful businessman whose interests in the future of Hell’s Kitchen will bring him into conflict with the blind attorney Matt Murdock and his alter ego, Daredevil. The role was played by Michael Clarke Duncan in the 2003 “Daredevil†movie.

“We’re incredibly proud to have an actor with the gravitas and versatility of Vincent joining ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ in such an integral role,†said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s head of television. “Wilson Fisk is an iconic villain whose cunning and power make him the dangerous equal of our hero.â€

D’Onofrio is known for his work in “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,†“Men in Black,†“Full Metal Jacket†and “Homicide.â€

Charlie Cox will play Matt Murdock/Daredevil.

“Spartacus†creator Steven S. DeKnight will executive produce the series and serve as showrunner, with Loeb and Drew Goddard executive producing.

Vincent is good but as Fisk I am not sure.
