I just finished the ICW No Holds Barred American Deathmatch Horror Story card and main event, John Wayne Murdoch vs. Eric Ryan in a 1 hour Ironman Deathmatch is incredible. The endurance needed to survive that match was amazing--endless lighttubes, panes of glass, weapons, and no canvas. They just killed each other, it was one of those deathmatches when you realize how special these wrestlers have to be to survive a match like that. This one goes onto my list.

Moose vs. Chris Sabin. Slammiversary '21. Moose is decked out in a Toga with gold lining. He's a gladiator ready to rumble. Moose begins the match with running European Uppercuts to Sabin against the cornerbuckles but Sabin stops his momentum with a missile dropkick. Moose tries a dropkick of his own but Sabin ducks and Moose wound up dropkicking the turnbuckle padding. Sabin performs a pair of Dragon Screw legwhips.

Moose carries Sabin to the top turnbuckle, hits him with a right, attempts a dropkick but Sabin boots him. Whenever Moose tries a dropkick, Sabin telegraphs it. Sabin wears Moose down with a figure-four leglock but it didn't look fully locked in. Later in the match, Moose performs a fallaway-slam. Sabin kicks Moose on the ring apron and follows it up with a flying body-press. Sabin fires away with Haymaker punches but it looked amateurish and Moose blocked most of it. Moose grabs Sabin by the legs and executes a giant swing, banging his head back-and-forth against the steel railings. When they're in the ring, Sabin tries a Double-leg Nelson, sunset-flip but gets a two. Sabin beats Moose with a victory roll for the surprise win.

Kenny Omega vs. Sami Callihan. Slammiversary '21. No Disqualification. Callihan attacks Omega before the bell and piledrives him. Omega tries a sunset flip but Sami counters it by taking a pizza cutter out of his pocket and slicing it across Omega's forehead! He slices it across Omega's forehead several more times to inflict additional damage.

Omega tries to leapfrog but Sami put the brakes on with a Samoan Drop. Callihan tries a Suicida but Omega hammers him on top of his head with a trash lid. Omega repeatedly stabs Callihan with a fork and tries to stab him in the mouth. Sami is getting a taste of his own medicine in this hardcore rules. Omega side-suplexes him on the ring apron and executes a double-stomp. Omega tries to piledrive Callihan thru the table but Callihan blocks it and piledrives Omega through the table!

Callihan tombstones Omega on a barbed wire wrapped chair. Out of frustration, Callihan piledrives ref Brian Hebner, giving Omega a breather. A bag of thumbtacks Callihan brought is used against him, as Omega rubs his kneepad on the tacks and performs a B-trigger on Callihan. He executes the one-winged Angel on Callihan to retain his title.

Genichiro Tenryu/Masao Orihara vs. The Great Kabuki/Koki Kitahara (WAR 7/14/92)
I hope these motherfuckers had beers together after this. Kitahara and Kabuki were totally relentless kicking heads in and levelling throats with lariats, and making exactly none of it look flashy. Orihara when selling for all that shucked out about as good a Never Say Die showing as I can remember, even with some of the flubbed moves and that random pointless backflip. His exchanges looked really unruly when he was just swinging wildly at any body part in the way before being minced. He somehow sold to make a swinging neckbreaker look violent, and that thing usually looks like garbage. The Ganso Bomb looked utterly fucked; like CCTV footage of an assault and battery from that angle. Also on the lariats he took late in the match, there were women in the front row clasping their hands in front of their mouths and made a great visual. I thought it was pretty brilliant how they didn't immediately let Tenryu come in hot after the first Orihara FIP bit either; Kabuki blindsiding him really allowed the second hot tag to feel like The Big One instead. Tenryu obviously doesn't take kindly to that though and starts breaking up half of every pinfall, which helped the match fly further into a chaotic spectacle. The ref didn't need to squeeze in a cardio workout that week, let's say that much. And Tenryu breaking up the pinfalls with the most unpretty kicks to the head looked possibly even more disgustingly violent than anything, especially thanks to how Kitahara didn't bump or turn for them, but instead just jolted his head and stayed in place. Deranged classic.

Masao Orihara vs. Shinjiro Otani (WAR 1/16/94)
What if you spend 20 minutes in the eleventh gear? There are definitely some moments of this that could have used more selling (Orihara post-leglock) but I think what separates this from a mindless spotfest (or whatever) is that it very much felt to me like these two were throwing moves around in spite of - maybe even as a response to - the punishment taken, and not just to surprise everybody and make it a reversal-fest. There was more of a defiance to pain as oppose to an absence of it. Not to mention there was a large amount of selling anyway, tons of drunken stumbling, exhausted head-bobbling and heavy breathing; every move looked like it took hell to execute. Otani had one great miss where he went for a slap and hit wind because he groggily fell backward on his ass as it was happening. Even in the piledriver trading bit they both looked like crumpled messes (and one of the piledrivers that Orihara took holy FUCK). But anyway, the match was stiff as fuck and it takes a lot to make even your usual headlock/off the ropes/leapfrog bits look not only rugged, but really nasty and hateful. It was basically a 20 minute battle over who could better physically say "fuck you" as they continually laid each other out and kept giving cheapshots even as they lay there on the mat after a hit. Otani going for the leg initially came off as smart strategy because he clearly needed a break from being on his feet, but sadly for him he was in position for Orihara to stomp on his head while in the hold. If back and forth junior wrestling had to be popularised, I wish it was more influenced by something like this than Tiger Mask vs. Dynamite Kid. No beers after it that's for sure.

Ace Austin & Madman Fulton vs. XXXL vs. Rohit Raju & Shera vs. TJP & Petey Williams. Under Siege '21. Number one contenders match for the tag team titles.

Petey and TJP double hiptoss Rohit. Petey dropkicks Rohit's shoulder blades. TJP wears Rohit down with a chain of submission moves: Sharpshooter, Muta backbridge, and armbar. Rohit reverses the tide and gets some offense going with a swinging neckbreaker and Gourdbuster on Petey. Rohit clamps on a sleeper-hold. Madman and Ace double-team TJP. Ace springboard legdrops TJP. TJ side-suplexes Ace. Rohit takes advantage of a distracted ref and tags himself in. Rohit executes a modified DDT on Ace.

XXXL, who hadn't seen much action for the duration of the match, tried to take advantage of the worn-out competitors hoping to steal a win. But Ace and Madman double-team Larry D. and Ace finishes him off with a splash.

Josh Alexander vs. El Phantasmo for Josh's X-Division title. Under Siege '21. Phantasmo goes for a single leg takedown but Josh blocks it and counters with a waistlock and a takedown. They engage in a knuckle-lock with Phantasmo getting the upper-hand with an armbar, go-behind and a side headlock. It's a technical moves early in the contest.

Josh puts him in a side headlock, Irish whips, and takes him down with a shoulder-block. Phantasmo tries a leapfrog but Josh catches him with a power-slam. Josh attempts a pedigree but El Phantasmo wiggles out of it and gets out of the ring to recoup his bearings.

Phantasmo with a wrist-lock, his nimble feet walks the ropes, and performs a hurricanrana. Phantasmo with a springboard flying body-press and a moonsault. He tries a super-kick but Josh grabs his leg and executes a back-breaker. Josh tries to finish him off with an ankle-lock but Phantasmo kicks him to the turnbuckles and tries to win with a roll-up, grabbing a handful of tights for extra leverage.

Phantasmo climbs the top turnbuckle and executes a Frog-splash on Josh in the middle of the ring. Josh tries a double-underhook but Phantasmo counters with a backdrop and bridge. Josh with a modified powerbomb-backbreaker. Josh is now relentless with the ankle-lock, Phantasmo tries to kick away but Josh locks it in and Phantasmo has no choice but to tap out.

Lots of highlight moments, as Phantasmo performed moves which you've seen hundreds of times before but he did it with a lot more flair. While he's a member of The Bullet Club there wasn't any outside interference as it was a clean finish.

Moose vs Eddie Edwards - Full Metal Mayhem

Geniunely one of the best matches I've seen this year. Seriously such a tight main event. Both guys really giving it their all, kept me invested right until the end. They made great use of the gimmick, a lot of fantastic spots. Such a treat of a match.

Makes me want to catch more of what Impact does in the future. I'm really giad I gave some of this show a chance. Moose is boss.

Ace Austin vs. Chris Sabin vs. Sami Callihan vs. Moose. Emergence '21. Number one contender's match. Sami reverse knife edge chops and a bicycle kick to Moose. Sami pulls the top rope on Sabin when he tries an aerial move, sending Sabin crashing to the floor. Sami is a on roll to start the match, as he Fireman's Carry Austin and slams him to the lower-turnbuckles.

Moose powerbombs Ace on the ring apron. Moose does a running European Uppercut on Ace against the turnbuckles. Sami tries a top rope move but Moose counters with a dropkick, Callihan crashes outside. Sabin climbs the top, and dropkicks Moose. Sabin executes a second-rope flying forearm on Ace outside. Sabin gets back in, and does a top rope DDT on Moose. Callihan piledrives Ace.

Sabin superkicks Moose. Then, Sabin, Ace, and Sami triple superkicks Moose. Moose is the biggest competitor in this match so the other guys are trying to wear him down. Sami nails Moose with a steel chair when the ref wasn't looking and Ace takes advantage, rolling up Moose for the win.

Willie Mack vs. The North. Hard to Kill '20. Handicapped match as Mack's partner Rich Swann was out with an injury. Josh and Ethan Page tag each other frequently to play mind games with Mack. They sneak attack Mack and Josh Irish-whips him to Ethan who takes Mack down with a shoulder-block. Josh tries a suplex but Mack blocks it. Josh is eventually suplexes him with an assist from Page. Willie DDT's Ethan. Willie Samoan drops Ethan. Willie executes an Exploder suplex on Josh.

The North with double Styles-Clash on Mack but he kicks out at two. Willie does the 6-Star Frog Splash on Josh but Ethan pulls the referee out of the ring just as he was going to count to three. But the numbers game is too much as Josh and Ethan defeat Mack to win the match.

It made for suspenseful moments because Mack was inching so close to pulling off an upset. If he could take The North to the limit then what will happen when Swann returns and it becomes a fair fight?

Josh Alexander vs. Jake Something. X-Division title. Emergence '21. Josh with a go-behind takedown, front chancery. Josh puts Jake in a wrist-lock. Josh traps him in an ankle lock early in the match. Jake attempts a suplex but Josh wiggles away and counters with a Northern Lights suplex. Josh runs the ropes but Jake catches him with a Thesz Press.

When Josh tries a second-rope Suicida, Jake catches him with a fireman's carry and delivers a Death Valley Driver outside. When they're back in the ring, Jake with hard forearm shots but Josh fights back with jabs and straight rights but those punches are pitty-pat compared to Jake's forearm blows. A memorable moment is Jake German Suplexes Jake 10 times in a row!

Josh puts him in a Lugeresque back-breaker converted into a slam but only gets a two-count. Jake fights back with a forceful clothesline. Josh goes for a drop toe-hold, ankle-lock submission but Jake grabs the ropes. Josh spike piledrives Jake on the ring apron. Josh with a pedigree converted into a straight-on piledriver to win the match. Josh retains his X-Division title and he extends his hand to Jake after the match is over.

Matt Irish whips him and goes for a back bodydrop but Rohit kicks him. Rohit runs the ropes but Cardona nails him with a dropkick.

Cardona tries a top rope Suicida but Rohit pulls the ring skirt out, causing Matt to tumble. Inside the ring, Rohit wears him down with a front facelock. Matt tries a top rope dropkick but Rohit moves out of the way. Rohit is quick-thinking as he's countering much of Matt's moves. Matt tries to suplex him, Rohit blocks it, so Matt improvises and hurts Rohit with a swinging neckbreaker.

Rohit with a swinging neckbreaker and Gourdbuster. Matt with a Samoan Drop, Cutter but only gets a two-count. Rohit tries a schoolboy but ref Daniel Spencer catches Rohit with his feet on the ropes for leverage. Matt beats Rohit with a Fameasser. Solid opener for Emergence.

Good Brothers vs. Tommy Dreamer & Sami Callihan. Against All Odds '21. Street Fight. Luke Gallows with a drop toehold to Sami, causing him to fall, face-first, through a chair. Luke with a right uppercut to Sami. Sami runs off the ropes and nails Luke with a boot to the face.

Dreamer Irish whips Luke to the turnbuckles, but Luke counters with a full-impact clothesline on Dreamer. Good Brothers double-team Tommy: Karl with a bicycle-kick to Dreamer against the turnbuckles and Luke follows it up with a Stinger Splash. Callihan with a top-rope clothesline on Luke. Karl with a Spinebuster on Dreamer but, just as he pins Dreamer, Callihan rushes in to stop the count. Good Brothers with the Magic Killer on Dreamer through a table but, just as Karl pins him, Sami rushes in to break the count yet again. Sami takes out a baseball bat and nails Anderson to the stomach and jaw. He pins Anderson for the win. After it's over, Tommy hesitantly shakes Callihan's hand.

Entertaining opener for Against All Odds. Trash lids, trash cans, and tables which is reminiscent of ECW but it wasn't a bloodbath.
