WWF Survivor Series 1992 - WWF Heavyweight Championship: Bret “Hitman” Hart vs. Shawn Michaels

Shawn is the Intercontinental Champion but the title is not on the line here, this is Bret’s first PPV WWF title defense. Bret versus Shawn at Survivor Series and Earl Hebner is the referee in this one. Who knew 5 years later these 2 guys would be doing this same match again only to have the the match that has created the most controversy in wrestling. This would be chapter two in their long rivalry (Rockers versus Hart Foundation being chapter one). Shawn knees Bret in the gut and Shawn tries an amateur takedown; Bret sits out and they roll to the ropes. Bret flusters Shawn early on and Michaels uses the hair to pull Bret down; Bret reverses. Shawn keeps trying to pull Bret’s hair but the referee keeps catching him. Michaels drop-toeholds Bret into a chinlock but Bret Hart counters immediately into a keylock. Shawn finally gets to his feet and finally reverses the hold; Bret momentums him to the floor and break the hold. Bret flips Shawn back into the ring via slingshot and reapplies the armbar. Vince McMahon amuses himself taking shots at Bobby Heenan throughout the wear-down holds. Bret hits a high crossbody for two, the kick out sends Bret to the floor so he returns via slingshot sunset flip for two; arm drag push Shawn back into the armbar. Vince tells us that both men are in good conditioning by way of ICOPRO. Shawn gets a short right into Bret’s face and Bret tries a hiptoss but Shawn flips through it and tries a clothesline, which misses and Bret scores with a clothesline for a nearfall. Bret reapplies the armbar; Shawn fires him off, catches Bret and falls back clotheslining Bret on the top rope. Hart comes back but Shawn sidesteps a corner charge and Bret posts his shoulder. Michaels works the shoulder with a single-arm DDT and stomps Bret. Shawn fires Bret into the corner and Bret hits hard chest first; Shawn grounds Bret with a reverse chinlock. Bret tries to free himself but Shawn pulls the hair and keeps the advantage. This is like the WrestleMania XII ironman match with most of the fast paced stuff edited out. Bret tries a comeback but eats a dropkick for two; Shawn hits a backbreaker for two as well so Shawn reapplies the headlock. Bret comes back again and hits a swinging neckbreaker and but Shawn gouges his throat to keep on top; Michaels drives Bret down into a front facelock. Bret forces Shawn into the corner and hits a bulldog headlock but Bret misses a second-rope elbow; Michaels hits a reverse elbow for a nearfall. Shawn goes back to the front facelock. The referee checks the arm, which fires Bret back up into an inside cradle for two. Shawn misses a charge and Bret backdrop suplexes him. Shawn tries a Thesz press but Bret catches him and slingshots him into the ringpost. Bret springs up and tosses Shawn into the corner horizontally; Bret kicks his gut causing Michaels crotches himself. Bret hits a back body drop and gets a nearfall; Russian leg sweep, backbreaker and driving second-rope elbow get a nearfall. Bret hits a superplex and both men are down for a double KO. Bret slips an arm across Shawn’s chest for two. Bret applies a sleeper hold and Shawn back Bret into the corner to break but sandwiches referee Hebner as well. Hebner recovers rather quickly as Bret catches Michaels’ boot; Bret tries to spin him into an atomic drop but Michaels flips over. Shawn tries an O’Connor roll but Bret reverses, so Shawn drops to his knees momentuming Bret through the ropes, to the floor. Shawn posts Bret’s back on the floor; Shawn breaks the referee’s count and bodyslams Bret on the floor. Back in the ring, Shawn tosses Bret’s back into the buckles and backdrops him; a frustrated Michaels argues with the referee allowing Bret a reverse roll-up for two. Bret walks into the superkick (not his finisher yet); Shawn hits the Teardrop suplex (his finisher) for a nearfall. Shawn is exasperated and Bret comes back a ties Shawn in the ropes; Michaels frees himself just in time to avoid a flying Hitman and Bret sails into the ropes sideways. Shawn Michaels ascends the buckles and Bret catches his legs on the landing and applies the Sharpshooter for the submission. Post-match Santa Clause heads to the ring and celebrates with Bret Hart as snow begins to cascade into the ring. ****1/4 Oh boy, do I love that finish. Shawn controlled 60-70% of that match and then fell prey to the Sharpshooter just like that. I can’t help but think of WrestleMania 12 here when they did the same spot. When I first saw that match and after everything Shawn had done to Bret for those 50-something minutes and for him to get stuck in the Sharpshooter at the last minute or so, now that’s good stuff. Anyways, an awesome match and definitely a career highlight for both men.

TNA Impact 06/14/2012 - Ultimate X: Austin Aries v. Chris Sabin v. Zema Ion

Kind of wish they’d keep the gimmick stuff off free TV, but obviously that’s not the mentality. Zema makes a quick climb to start, but the other two double-team him in the corner and dump him. Sabin and Aries do a gymnastic sequence and Aries gets the pendulum elbow, but Ion puts Aries down with a facecrusher and goes for the climb again. Sabin brings him down and gets a vicious tornado DDT, but goes up and fights with Aries on top. Sabin climbs for it again, but Aries pulls him into a fireman’s carry and gives him an AIRPLANE SPIN. Aries climbs, but he’s too dizzy to get a foothold, so he comes back down and gets rid of Ion again. He backdrops Sabin onto Ion outside and it looks like Sabin hurt his knee on that. Aries hits them both with a suicide dive and takes a victory lap because he’s the GREATEST MAN THAT EVER LIVED. Aries makes it to the belt, but Ion yanks him down again and they fight on the top. Aries goes low and Ion whacks his head on the scaffolding while falling down, like Homer going down the cliff. Obviously the hairspray protected him. He keeps coming, so Aries brings him down with a rana, dropkicks him into the brainbuster, and retrieves the belt to retain. **1/2 Dominating win for the champ, although Sabin disappeared halfway through because of the injury.

Aries says he came to TNA and made big claims almost a year ago. He said he could defeat anyone and that he was pound for pound the best in wrestling. He said he was the greatest man that ever lived, and they gave him an inch he took a yard, and then a mile. He knocked it all out of the park. It doesn't matter what match he is in, he is always the main event and always must see TV. But he is not satisfied with the X-Title, and he is here to take respect.

TNA Impact 06/14/2012 - Royal Gauntlet: Bound for Glory Series match

Even though it was called a gauntlet match, it didn't operate like a gauntlet match. Every 90 seconds, another competitor would enter the match. The only way you lose this match is by getting thrown over the top rope. Everyone that is competing in the BFG Series is taking part in this match, with the exception of the loser in tonight's World Title match. AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy start off this match, but we would eventually have guys like RVD, Magnus, Bully Ray, Kurt Angle, Pope, Robbie E, Christopher Daniels, Samoa Joe, and James Storm. Oh yeah, the Pope returned. I was more shocked that Pope still has a job in TNA. #1 is AJ Styles. #2 is Jeff Hardy. And here we go, a new man in every 90-seconds. Lock up, off the ropes and AJ with the dropkick combo to begin things. Slams Jeff to the corner, and tries to toss him, but Jeff fights back and hits a dropkick of his own. #3 is RVD. Jeff tries to toss AJ, he fights back as RVD takes his time getting to the ring. RVD with kicks to both men. Big monkey flip to AJ, and then rolling thunder to Jeff. We head to a commercial @ 2:00. Back from commercial @ 6:00, and Magnus and Bully Ray have joined the action. Ray is actually making his way to the ring as we speak, and AJ and Magnus battle along the ropes. Ray starts to work over Jeff as he enters, and then attacks RVD. Ray tries to toss AJ, but Magnus stops that.#6 is Kurt Angle. Angle jogs to the ring and hits a German on Magnus. One for Jeff. Rights to Ray, and he beats Ray down in the corner. AJ and RVD battle in a corner, AJ almost tossed by saves himself. Ray stops an elimination try by Angle. Ray now attacks Magnus, and the time runs down, and #7 is The Pope D'Angelo Dinero, making his return! According to commentary, Pope has a role in The Dark Knight Rises. Ray tries to toss Jeff, and does after a big boot. Ray starts to unload on anything moving, and we see ABYSS from under the ring. They all stop and point to Abyss, who eliminates Ray! We head to another commercial @ 11:00. Back from commercial @ 14:00, and Robbie E came in at #8. RVD gets tossed in a corner scrum. #9 is Daniels. AJ hits the Superman forearm as Daniels enters. AJ runs into Angle, and gets eliminated. Daniels then eliminates Angle from the match. The clock runs down again and #10 is Samoa Joe. Joe rushes the ring and starts to hit anyone that moves. Robbie E steps up and Joe grabs him by the hair and tosses him. Daniels attacks Joe, Pope tries to help and Magnus puts a stop to that. Chops by Joe to Magnus. They stand off and start to trade rights. Big boot by Magnus, charges Joe, who low bridges him and Magnus is gone. Joe smiles at him, and then Daniels attacks Joe again. #11 is James Storm. Storm hits the ring and tosses Pope. Rights to Daniels, and a big backdrop for him. Lung blower, and then the superkick is stopped, but Storm eliminates Daniels with a clothesline. Down to Storm and Joe right now, and they trade rights. Apparently we are only getting 11 guys, s the loser of the world title match later tonight will be the 12th man. Storm skins the cat, tries to toss Joe and then Joe gets the clutch from the apron. Storm escapes and superkicks Joe to the floor to win. **1/2 It's pretty hard to rate Royal Rumble matches.

Storm grabs the mic and says that when he was on Impact last, he thought his luck ran out. He spent time with his family and on his farm, which he built with blood, sweat and tears, just like his wrestling career. He said his home would tell him when t was time, and when his daughter asked if he was going back to wrestling. He knows what wrestling means to him, but he didn't know what it meant to her. And now that he is back, he didn't know what he meant to the fans until he came out at Slammiversary. He made a promise to himself and his little girl and now to the fans. He came back to be the champion, and he will be the champion. Bobby Roode, listen, Storm hopes and prays that Roode is the champion when the series is over, because that will be a bonus to whooping his ass. Sorry about your damn luck.

TNA Impact 06/14/2012 - Brooke Tessmacher v. Madison Rayne

Rayne takes Tessmacher to the corner, charges in and eats a boot. Tries again and Rayne slams Tessmacher to the mat. Rayne yells at her, slams her to a corner and then chokes her out. Corner splash connects, and then slams Tessmacher down by the hair. Rayne covers for 2. She yells at the ref, and then shoots Tessmacher off the ropes, counter and battles back with forearms. Clotheslines follow, and then a flying forearm. To the corner, and a facebuster by Tessmacher, and a cover gets 2. Facebuster finisher countered by Rayne, and Tessmacher is able to fight back and gets a side effect for the win. 1/2* Tessmacher has a great look, but possibly the worst name in the promotion. Maybe they should just go with her real name?

ROH Final Battle 2002: CM Punk v.s Colt Cabana.

A classy opener for a classy show. Apparently the two are wrestling over who gets to fly from and to their ROH matches. Typical ROH storyline for this time period but it works and we got to see Punk get all serious on Cabana before the match even happens via pre-taped video. The match itself was a good back and forth contest. The two hit a lot of stuff in a short period of time but it didn't feel like either was trying to get the advantage. The match also wasn't very crisp which is understandable being 2002 for these two. I did like how the spots and counters escalated through out the match getting better until Punk finally put away Cabana with the Pepsi Plunge. Nothing like their emotional 2 out 3 falls contest a few years later but a respectable opener.

TNA Impact 06/14/2012 - TNA World Championship: Bobby Roode v. Mr. Anderson

Lock up to begin, off the ropes and a clothesline by Anderson. To the corner and another clothesline by Anderson. Roode tries to battle back, eats another clothesline and tries to roll to the floor. Anderson suplexes him back in and covers for 2. Roode tosses Anderson to the floor, but misses a slingshot dive. Anderson whips Roode to the steps, and we head to a commercial. Roode works a headlock on the mat. Anderson works to get to his feet, rolls up Roode for 2. Backslide by Anderson gets 2. Elbow and a neck breaker by Roode and a cover gets 2. Roode continues to keep the advantage with a rear chinlock, front facelock now as Anderson works to his feet. Roode works a neck crank now, Anderson fights out and they trade rights. Boot by Roode, lams Anderson to the corner, but he blocks that and whips Roode to the opposite corner. Clothesline by Anderson. Neck breaker follows and Anderson sets, kamikaze roll countered, and Anderson with the trouble in paradise kick. Roode counters the mic check into the cross face. Anderson escapes, gets the kamikaze roll and covers for 2. Roode battles back, works the shoulder, slams Anderson shoulder first into the corner now and then locks in the cross face again. Anderson struggles, and he has to tap. **1/2 This was an okay match, but it didn't do it for me for some reason. Then again, I have had a hard time getting interested in Anderson matches. Still, this wasn't too bad of a contest. Bobby actually got the clean victory in this one. I always like it when I see the bad guys get the clean victories. I know it's common for the bad guys to always resort to cheating, but it does help them when they get those clean victories.

ROH Final Battle 2002: Scramble Match- Da Hit Squad v.s Backseat Boyz v.s Special K.

Why did I bother watching this? It was just spot after spot with nothing that mattered. If it wasn't for the big moves the Da Hit Squad were hitting I would have skipped this entirely. They wrecked the two other teams while the other teams looked useless. Of course it's a Scramble match so that means everything has to break down into a dive fest even including people that weren't in the match and considering Special K was represented by Deranged and Angeldust you had a lot of other hooligans running around like idiots. At one point Hydro or better known as Jay Lethal got powerbombed over the top rope onto like 6 people but this was from Monsta Mack and Mafia was was in the center of the people outside. Good job taking out your own partner with someone who wasn't involved in the match. After some enthralling big man tag moves by Da Hit Squad and some ineffective sloppiness by the two other teams the finish comes down to something that looked botched to me as Special K stole the victory.

ROH Final Battle 2002: 2 out 3 Falls, ROH Tag Team Title Match- The S.A.T. v.s Donovan Morgan & Christopher Daniels(c).

I'm not too big on the S.A.T. but I really enjoyed how they worked this match. Yeah and I think this was the longest match I've ever seen from the Maximos. It had a slow pace, old school feel something from early 90s WCW as far as a this tag match goes. Jose and Joel worked with style that was more of their opponents for the most part until you know they had to get some of their big time tag team maneuvers in. This match was essentially your usual simple tag match. Babyface beatdowns, hot tags and quick moves by the S.A.T. to make it look like they are still in it when the bigger, stronger team has one member isolated. The finishes were also simple, though. Both teams hit their tag finishing moves for the first two falls then late in the match they traded individual finishers for nearfalls until Daniels hit a quick Last Rites to pick the win and keep the titles in his camp. Just a good tag match after that horrific display that was that Scramble match.
