Ring of Honor had teased in a recent newswires that they were in negotiations with a 'surprise name' for the 'Showdown in the Sun' events on Wrestlemania weekend.
While he may not be that man, it was confirmed on this week's edition of ROH TV (if you've not seen it yet, read the report here) that former WWE, WCW and ECW star Lance Storm will be facing off against 'The Prodigy' Mike Bennett on Night One of the double header.
Storm has won a multitude of championships across the major promotions in the United States. He has particularly succeeded in tag team competition, winning the ECW World tag team championships on three occasions as well as winning the WWE World tag team titles four times. Add those to a WWF Intercontinental title, a WCW Hardcore championship and the WCW United States heavyweight belt three times, and Storm has an impressive résumé.
The Canadian retired in 2004 but in typical wrestling fashion, has returned to the ring on several occasions since. ROH fans will remember Storm for making several appearances over the past few years. On April 1 2006, he faced Bryan Danielson for the ROH World Championship at 'Better Than Our Best' in a losing effort.
He also returned in July 2009 for the 'Death Before Dishonor VII' events. On Night One he teamed with fellow Canadian Kevin Steen to defeat Chris Hero and Davey Richards and the following night he lost to Hero one-on-one.
Following that impressive bout, he cut a promo saying that would be his last match in wrestling although it would appear the lure of being in an ROH ring once more was too much to resist.
“I shared this match with people who share my love and respect for this business, and I am now home being Lance Evers with the family I will share the rest of my life with,†he said following the loss to Hero.
“I still have my school, and I will always be a part of this business, but I truly believe I am now done as a performer. They say, never say never in this business, and because of that I won’t, but I think I left it all in the ring that night and I believe I wrote the final page in the 19-year long book that was the career of Lance Storm.â€
However, ROH fans will get to see Storm once more as he takes on Mike Bennett at 'Showdown in the Sun' in a match that is a must-see contest. You can order both nights of what are sure to be great wrestling action for just $20! For details, go to GFL.tv
I'm a fan of Lance's so i'm pleased he's going to be back in ROH.
