TMZ.com is reporting that TNA champion Kurt Angle was arrested early this morning and charged with DWI in Virginia. Virginia State Troopers responded to a call from another motorist who observed Angle's vehicle alleged swerving between lanes on I-66. Angle was traveling from that evening's TNA house show, where he had defeated AJ Styles.

Angle was arrested but later released from Warren County Jail after posting a $2,000 bond.

Angle has been arrested for similar charges several times in the past. In March 2011, Angle was arrested in Grand Forks, North Dakota after failing a field sobriety test and allegedly operating his car while intoxicated after being found sitting in the middle of a median separating lanes. Angle was arrested and charged with being in control of a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Since he wasn't seen driving the car by police, they could not charge him with a DUI. Angle claimed publicly via his Twitter account that he has slid out on an icy patch of road, something that the police discounted at the time. Ironically enough, Angle claimed that TMZ "blew the story out of proportion."

Angle later plead guilty to a charge of reckless driving for the incident as part of a plea deal on 4/8 of this year. Under the terms of that deal, Angle paid a $475 fine, would have to serve a year of unsupervised probation and undergo a chemical dependency evaluation. He also received a suspended sentence of 10 days in jail. There is no word yet how this most recent arrest could impact his current probation for the North Dakota arrest.

Angle was also arrested in Moon Township, PA in 2007 on a DUI charge after police received a report of an erratic driver leaving a local bar. Angle was the charged with driving under the influence and careless driving after police traced the description of the car to his home. In that case, Angle was later found not guilty on those charges when the complaining witness was unable to corroborate her story.

Angle was also arrested in 2009 on a number of assault and harassment-related charges involving former girlfriend Tranesha "Rhaka Khan" Biggers, although in the end those charges were all dropped. At the time, Angle was charged with driving with a suspended license, as a result of the license never being reinstated after his 2007 court case was resolved. That charge was also resolved.
It should be interesting to see what TNA's reaction, if any, is to this latest arrest as they released Matt Hardy (who was under suspension at the time) for his DWI arrest several weeks ago in North Carolina.

Update;

TMZ is reporting today that sources close to Kurt Angle feel that he has been framed by Virginia police after being arrested for DWI yesterday. Angle stated that he passed a breathalyzer test, meaning he was not legally drunk, when he was arrested for driving erratically on Interstate 66 yesterday morning after a TNA house show. Angle's lawyer stated, "We understand Kurt will be entering a plea of not guilty in response to any infractions and/or offenses."

Surprised this hadn't been posted yet.

Angle yet again in trouble with the law. He says that he was not legally drunk but then what is his excuse for driving erratically on the road. Does he simply not know how to drive? He is going to be in a lot of trouble since he is already on probation from when he was arrested earlier this year for the same thing.

If TNA don't fire him then it would be hypocritical of them since they fired Matt Hardy for a similar issue and this was the second time this year that Angle has done this. Plus this is the second time he has done this whilst TNA champion. He has brought shame to TNA and so logically he should drop the title but I doubt Dixie will step in and sack him.

Your thoughts? Will TNA fire Angle? Will Angle drop the title?

Who knows what to believe, his story seems a bit unlikely as what motive would they have for setting him up? But I supose you never know, point is Angle is getting in these scraps with the law a little too much as of late, and it is bad news for both him and the promotion.

TNA won't fire him, fact is he is much more important to them than Matt Hardy.

I believe that he blew under the limit but it doesn't mean that the police officers set him up. They are allowed to arrest him if he is driving like an idiot. Plus Angle has a history of this plus he is crazy so I believe the police rather than Kurt.

They won't fire him but they have to punish him since it is really bad publicity for TNA that their champion is being arrested.

Yeah, the problem is unless it becomes a very serous problem where he maybe in a position to serve jail time, or becomes so out of control that it effects him in a wrestling contest then TNA will just think it is no big deal, where as in reality it would be smart to sweep it under the carpet before it got to that stage.
