Earlier this week, Mad Men star Jon Hamm complained about stupidity being a valuable commodity nowadays. In an interview with Elle UK, the actor lamented the profitability of buffoonery and called Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton “fucking idiotsâ€. His forceful words were seconded by many fans disgusted with reality television culture but also blasted by others who thought the women couldn’t possibly be idiots given the lucrative businesses they’ve each cultivated.
Given how much Kim Kardashian loves publicity, as well as hearing herself talk, it was a given she’d eventually respond to Hamm’s charges. The only question was whether she’d choose to simply defend herself or also take aim at the actor himself. Today, she spoke publicly as expected. Here’s what she had to say…
I just heard about the comment Jon Hamm made about me in an interview. I respect Jon and I am a firm believer that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that not everyone takes the same path in life. We’re all working hard and we all have to respect one another. Calling someone who runs their own businesses, is a part of a successful TV show, produces, writes, designs, and creates, “stupid,†is in my opinion careless
The above statement outlines the reasons why Kim thinks she’s not an idiot and further calls Hamm’s words “carelessâ€. All things considered, it most definitely falls within the first approach of defending herself rather than attacking him. That’s probably a good decision. There’s no way she could have possibly turned this into a which one of us is a bigger idiot argument and come out looking positive.
Say what you will about Kim Kardashian, she does have a successful television show and has pretty much maximized her money-making potential as a woman famous for being famous. You might find those things reprehensible, but they still do take some sort of skill.
