At this point, it’s pretty safe to say that Justin Timberlake won’t be returning to the music world anytime soon. After his breakout performance in The Social Network, Timberlake landed the co-lead in Joel and Ethan Coen’s folk music period pic Inside Llewyn Davis, and now he’s set to co-star with none other than Clint Eastwood. The actor is in negotiations to star alongside the Unforgiven actor in the baseball drama Trouble with the Curve. The film marks the directorial debut of Eastwood’s producing partner Robert Lorenz and centers on an ailing baseball scout who takes his daughter on one last recruiting trip.

Amy Adams is onboard as Eastwood’s daughter and Variety reports that Timberlake will play Johnny Flanagan, “a former pitcher who now works as a baseball scout for the New York Yankees.†Flanagan is set up as a potential love interest for Adams’ character. Fingers crossed we get a scene where grizzled badass Eastwood tells Timberlake stay away from his daughter. And his lawn. Trouble with the Curve opens September 28th.

This might be a decent the cast looks good too.

I thought Eastwood was retired from acting? Oh well, no big deal, I love me some Clint Eastwood so I'm down for this. Amy Adams is a bonus, I find her very cute.

Eastwood in a movie again is full of win. As far as Timberlake, maybe Eastwood will bring out the best in him. It is a movie that is somewhat about baseball, even if it isn't the Bull Durham kind of baseball movie so I will definitely watch it.

Have you been following the development of this baseball drama Trouble With the Curve? It started out as just a glimmer, a hope. It was maybe the project that would bring Clint Eastwood out of acting retirement. A story about an aging baseball scout who is losing his vision and who is embarking on one last recruitment trip in the company of his adult daughter sounded perfect for an old grizzly bear like Eastwood, and since those first days of maybes the project has developed quite nicely.

First it became official, and got a release date of September 28, 2012. Then it started filling out its supporting cast with exciting names. Amy Adams came on to play the role of Eastwood’s daughter, and Justin Timberlake got picked up to play her love interest. This thing was looking like an all-star lineup already.

But with news that they’re bringing one of the most underutilized players in Hollywood on board, I think this one might go all the way. According to Variety, John Goodman has just signed on to play a baseball scout and longtime friend of the Eastwood character’s named Pete Klein. That’s right, The Babe himself is returning to the world of onscreen baseball.

More news on the movie. This cast is getting better and better.

Good stuff. Always liked Goodman in supporting roles as he seems to steal the show all the time.
