http://espn.go.com/mma/story/_/id/10887390/junior-dos-santos-calls-stipe-miocic-fight-hand-injury

Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos has withdrawn from a bout against Stipe Miocic scheduled for later this month in Sao Paolo, Brazil, due to a hand injury.

UFC officials confirmed the news to ESPN.com, following initial reports out of Brazil. The UFC has yet to announce whether dos Santos will be replaced.

The heavyweight bout was supposed to headline the televised UFC Fight Night event on May 31 at Ibirapuera Gymnasium. Additionally, finalists from the current season of "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil" are scheduled to appear on the main card.

Miocic (11-1) is looking to extend a two-fight win streak, as he's beaten Roy Nelson and Gabriel Gonzaga in his last two trips to the Octagon. Meanwhile, dos Santos (16-3) will have to wait to come back from a one-sided decision loss to UFC champion Cain Velasquez in October.

The heavyweight contest was originally slated as the co-main event at UFC 173 on May 24 in Las Vegas, but eventually landed on the May 31 card.

So Stipe misses out on his biggest fight of his career. The UFC now has to scramble if they are even going to even replace that fight. That's the biggest problem with so many cards. When a top guy like that goes down... the card suffers massively. Although luckily for them it was just a TV card and not a PPV or Fox card.

UFC light heavyweight Fabio Maldonado has agreed to a short-notice heavyweight bout against Stipe Miocic later this month in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The bout will headline The Ultimate Fighter Brazil Finale at Ibirapuera Gymnasium. UFC officials confirmed the new main event on Tuesday.

Maldonado (21-6) replaces former UFC champion Junior dos Santos, who was forced to withdraw from the bout earlier this week due to a hand injury. The Brazilian is 4-3 all time in the UFC. All seven fights have been at 205 pounds.

A former professional boxer, Maldonado is currently riding a three-fight win streak. The 34-year-old is coming off a unanimous decision over Gian Villante in March.

Miocic (11-1) will look to build on back-to-back decision wins over veterans Roy Nelson and Gabriel Gonzaga. Fighting out of Euclid, Ohio, Miocic, 31, is the No. 5-ranked heavyweight in the world, according to ESPN.com.

Maldonado is that punchbag who Glover nearly manslaughter'd.

Miocic knocked out Stefan Struve so will forever be in my good books.

Don't care about this bum fight tho.

Stipe is missing out cause of a hand injury. And yeah I forgot who the guy was until I looked him up and saw that he was the one that got brutalized by Glover and his corner had to throw in the towel. So if Stipe wins this... it does nothing for him. At all. Overeem probably still out on his little vacation. But I think they could have done better as far as challengers go for Stipe.

Stipe got let off death row here, we all knew JDS would murder him without breaking a sweat.
