John Cena’s WWE schedule has been significantly lighter this year than it has in any other year since he was made the company’s top guy over a decade ago. According to CageMatch.net, Cena has only had 44 matches this year, and according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that number won’t be much higher by the end of this year.
Cena is currently off filming the second season of the Fox reality show American Grit, and according to Meltzer, he is scheduled to appear at Survivor Series next month, but he won’t return to being a weekly character on WWE television until next year.
“John Cena is listed for Survivor Series, which surprises me. But that’s the only listing he’s got until the first of the year. He’s gone filming that American Grit show right now.”
John Cena hasn’t even wrestled in 50 matches this year

WWE is reportedly open to having Cena be a heel because of his part-time status. So, we could finally see WWE’s ultimate good guy turn bad when he returns to the company next year, which is something that pro wrestling fans have been wanting to see for more than a decade.

I don't know how true that statement is about them wanting him to be a heel but only being scheduled 44 matches is down so much from what he used to do. I bet a huge part of him is relieved. I would say he can focus on his family and relationship, like i.e. having kids and getting married but it doesn't seem to be something he wants, at least not with Nikki.
