Yeah, seeing who the champ is is not enough to determine why business did well. Punk was an afterthought to Cena during a good part of his reign, Orton was an afterthought to Cena as well... basically, Cena's always the #1 dude and the business fluctuates periodically by itself. It's useless to debate anything outside of Cena, I mean, he's the only thing who matters

Orton had been booked like a poor man's Austin, but he was exactly that (a poor man's Austin).
Vince doesn't like change too much and Cena is still whom he perceives to be the prototype (pun intended) babyface
The only reason Austin was the featured babyface was because business needed him, not because he was Vince's preference
Without competition if Vince is choosing between Cena and Orton, he will always choose Cena
Cena is easier for Vince to book. Orton requires more complex storylines the core audience may not easily grasp

Listen, friend, its no secret that I am a randy orton fan. But you're out of your mind if you think he is the popular choice. Sure, he gets some legit heat from a portion of the casual fans, but then again, john cena gets reactions from a even bigger of the fans. I'm not saying I rather have Cena as champion, fuck no. But he draws a lot better than orton right now, I would be delighted to have Randy as champion, but that would be a gamble. As I said so many times before, we have to remember that this is a company that lives on popularity alone and sometimes our opinion doesn't really matter that much because we are the minority. Even if we think a guy wrestles better, looks better or talk better than his peers, if he can't captivate most of the audience, then he should not be getting a push. I'm confidente that there may be a time on the future where orton is getting the desired reactions, but that is simply not realistic right now

Edit: I'm not saying orton gets poor reactions or that he is a bad draw, what was previously stated was simply a comparison to Cena and the other guys that could be getting the belt
