I think Josh Matthews is a damn good neutral commentator, he does great to complement Cole and Booker's arguing and silliness on Smackdown.

Yeah but what Matthews does isn't hard.

Jerry Lawler seems to have lost his ability to commentate and I find myself more inclined to mute the television. The combination of Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler fit together perfectly, because they complimented each others abilities as announcers. Do I think they should fire him? I think it's time to leave the commentary booth, but I think he could be used behind the scenes as part of developmental, creative, or possibly as a scout for WWE, because he's had a lengthy wrestling career and seems like he'd know what to look and seems to have a mind for the business.

He needs to go there is no passion in my view he hasn't been good since he and JR got split up back in 08 and while we are at fuck off Micheal Cole as well he doesn't focus on the match just himself bring in Matt Striker and William Regal all 3 would be great if they wanted a 4 man booth then bring in JR if he thinks he can handle it if not throw a big bunch of cash at Paul Heyman.

Don't think the King will be fired and I love the idea of having him behind the scenes as part of creative or developmental, however, he only works on Raw and PPVs, that's not a schedule he's likely to trade for a life consuming role behind the scenes. I would love to see him given his own stable - heel or face. The guy is one of the best talkers of all time, just look at his stuff in AWA or with Andy Kauffman or his legendary feuds in WWE with Bret Hart and Jake The Snake.

The King can get anyone over. Here's a list of people who could use king's help:

Heels:
Drew McIntyre, Mason Ryan, Jack Swagger, Tensai, Heath Slater

Faces:
Kofi, SinCara, Tyson Kidd, Justin Gabriel, Ryback,

I don't know later years Lawler's involvement in feuds with random wrestlers besides Sheamus hasn't really worked. I remember his feud with Gregory Helms that just managed to waste time. I think anything with him like that will be hit or miss based on everything else surrounding it and that would include a stable.

I agree most of the angels with King have flopped but those were where he was portrayed as a commentator/wrestler. As a stable leader, I would have him more as the mentor to the young kids, especially the one's with no direction and/or no mic skill.

I don't know, I read Lawler's book and it's pretty much just corny jokes and stuff he vaguely remembers. He has a terrible memory and his commentry work shows that. I'm not just saying his fed lines but you can notice he sometimes forgets random wrestlers he should know. I don't even think he watches SmackDown! reguarly. I'm not sure how much effect he would care to have on younger wrestlers. He seems to be more than content right now getting paid large amounts of money for not doing much.

Yeah I know what u mean, from what I've heard, both from shoot interviews and a lot of Kings commentary, he dismisses SmackDown as an unnecessary second show. And with the wrestlers basically appearing on both shows, he'd have to be willing to do the odd Tuesday night. I just think it'd be a terrible waste of talent, knowledge and experience

I don't think King is necessarily terrible, I just don't think Cole and Lawler are good together as a team. I actually liked Foley and JR together. As much as I dislike the "Telling stories" era of wrestling commentary, they did just the perfect job with it.

Cole NEEDS JBL. Those two together were my favorite team since Lord Alfred Hayes and Vince, or Savage and Vince. They just had a good flow together. But since JBL obviously isn't interested, they need someone in his style. Someone that can play that cocky, boisterious heel. Regal is the natural fit in my eyes. Punk could do it, but I want to see him in the ring, not sitting at ringside.

Cole is great. Booker is growing on me on SD but wouldn't work on Raw. Not a big Josh Matthews fan, dont see the point of him on SD really. I would loooooooove to see JBL beside Cole on Raw week in week out, but Regal would be Awesome too.

I think that Cole being on Smackdown doesn't help Josh Matthews at all. He is a very good commentator but Cole kind of does his job on Smackdown. I would keep Cole on RAW only and make it a two man team for both shows, no point having the third guy on Smackdown.

He's terrible, he's so old and out of touch and not even remotely funny anymore. He's like DX of the announce booth.

Say what you want about Booker T and that he's mad as a hatter, but he actually gets it. He may be a face but the amount of times he puts over the heels in a balanced way is pretty awesome. The way he was putting over Dolph Ziggler last night and Lawler was just replying with 'no' was just sad to listen to.

Make him an ambassador or something, just get him out of the booth for christ sake.

Awesome post I agree with every point!

Can't believe this is even worth debating anymore, the guy is about five years past his sell by date, he must really have friends in high places to have held on to such a job for so long.

Don't mind him being involved in the odd feud or making a rumble appearence but the time has long past to remove him from communtry.
