On Saturday night in Mexico City, Jeff Jarrett made history by becoming the Heavyweight Champion of Mexico at TripleMania! Jarrett (cheered on by his wife Karen) defeated El Zorro to win the prestigious title. Jarrett's win was a major shock to the fans in attendance - and chaos erupted after he was declared the new champion. On Sunday morning, all of Mexico will awaken to the fact that Jeff Jarrett is the new Heavyweight Champion of Mexico!

The TripleMania event also featured Mr. Anderson, Rob Van Dam, Abyss, Velvet Sky, Mickie James and Angelina Love all in action!

Check back to IMPACTWRESTLING.com on Sunday for footage from the event, as well as comments from Jeff Jarrett!

......

I am surprised the fans didn't riot.

This isn't the top title in AAA since it is the heavyweight title and it is a good way to bring in El Zorro to TNA. El Zorro signed a contract a couple of months ago with TNA which allows him to wrestle with TNA and AAA. Hopefully we will see some more AAA wrestlers in TNA.

Your thoughts on JJ being the heavyweight champion of AAA?

This is interesting, TNA/AAA merging or some crap? TNA is so famous for getting random people into their brand and it's actually something I like out of TNA. I like the fact they used to do the tag titles with NJPW, I mean that's cool. If only WWE was smart enough to do something like that... *HINT HINT ROH TAG*

AAA and TNA have a working agreement. So they send each other wrestlers to be used on the other companies shows.

Should be pretty cool to see how this develops. Can't say I'm not intrigued.

AAA must be desperate for attention, why else would they put a title on someone not even on their roster. Sure it would give that Zorro guy a transition intom TNA, but Jarrett? Why do we have to see Jarrett in another storyline that will potentially suck major airtime.

Very strange this one, maybe AAA are struggling and they consider Jarrett a big enough name to be able to draw good money. In all fairness Jarrett has always made for an entertaining heel, its just that as NWA Champion he way over exposured, and held the title for too long, and too often.

Jarrett has as much name value as say. A Shane Douglas, no one outside of wrestling fans would know who he was. And wouldn't be able to pick him out of a line up.

But you can say that about most wrestlers, only the likes of Hogan and The Rock have that broader appeal outside of wrestling. The thing is the mistake TNA made [or in many ways that Jarrett made] was building the whole promotion around him, and keeping him at the top for too long. I think the guy proved in WWF, WCW and TNA that he is an effective heel, who can draw good heat, and puts on solid matches most of the time, but a little Jarrett goes a long way.

Jarrett being the franchise player of TNA for many years was a mistake. A couple of title reigns would have been fine but he had too many and everytime they had a new tv deal he was always champion. So many names were overlooked early on that would have been better choices for champion.

TNA was founded solely so Jarrett can have a job, WWF were not interested in him and every new fed that popped up after WCW died was gone before they even had a show.

And yes, only a handful of people are able to gain mainstream exposure, I say the same thing about alot of wrestlers. Triple H isn't a household name, Kurt Angle isn't either. Is this a knock against them? No. Just stating the obvious.

But that was my point, so by the same token, you can't really knock Jarrett for not being outside of wrestling, but I do think for a promotion like AAA he could draw interest, in TNA he has been over exposed, but in that promotion he would bring some name value and something different, and he is and has always been a good heel, bottom line.

Bottom line is, he only got over because Vince Russo booked him to beat up women in WWF and continued to do so in WCW. That was his only claim to fame and every other chance he had before this failed miserably.

AAA is just showing how desperate they are to compete with EMLL and CMLL. Jeff Jarrett won't bring them much interest. Vampiro is a bigger draw than Jarrett is in Mexico.

But watch his feuds with the likes of Razor Roman and DDP and tell me he didn't have talent. I am not his biggest fan, but I also don't get the hate for him, there are far worse guys in this business, and for me as a soild mid-upper card heel Jarrett has had a decent career.
